I found a TH-cam channel last year -Bobby Parish and downloaded free ap.We cook a lot at home and I like to make all my baked goods from scratch (I love your bread recipes! I love carbs,lol)We eat about 75% clean and I am still learning about ingredients in products. This channel has good info on groceries and its ingredients from different stores.
About the only time my house gets cleaned. 😊

I started a monthly appetizer club a few years ago so I would have to keep the clutter to a minimum and deep clean the kitchen. It was fun! Been a while since we did that -pre covid.

I really do wish I was as clean and organized as Christine. Living in a house of all adults with their own active lives is really a cluttered house.
You’re very organised Christine. I love how your family prioritises experiences rather than buying the latest fashion decor etc. The frugal approach you take when cooking and managing a household more than outweighs having a tidy up every now and then. Just keep on doing things that serve you and your family. ❤
The secret to staying tidy and organized is to put things back where they belong ASAP. AND/OR do a quick tidy every night.
I have young children so the quick tidy every night after they go to bed is KEY to keeping the house tidy.
Something that worked well when my kids were at home, I would set a timer for 15 minutes before bedtime and everyone would pick up and put away their things while I tidied up the kitchen etc and things stayed a lot more organized.
I had to comment and say I appreciate your authenticity. Most TH-cam mom's would start a simmer pot instead of lighting a candle! Lol the candle is just easier and more realistic.
Thanks, Christine, for another great video. A quick tip for bacon - lay another piece of parchment or a sheet pan over the bacon to stop the fat spitting all over the inside of your oven. Now I'm off to tidy toys while I listen again.
H is such a sweetheart! She has a great temperament and sense of humor. It’s great to have her home from school.
I'm definitely not a spotless person and I live by myself. What I try to do is a habit that I started a long time ago is when I am watching TV and a commercial comes on I have to do a chore like load/unload dishwasher and/or washer/Dryer. Fold laundry. Pay bills etc... Paper clutter is a huge problem for me too! When I had my kids living at home my house was always a mess.. just the way it was when I worked and took care of family! My daughter in law keeps a beautiful house but she has OCD so even with three kids their house stays clean!
Gilmore Girls is my all-time favorite show. Definitely Team Luke and Team Logan!!
We do a quick tidy right before bed most nights. I’m also teaching my kids to Notice and Do…notice something that needs to be done and do it. I’ve started putting it on their Saturday chore list and they have to tell mom or dad what they did. I’ve given them some general ideas so they can find specifics.
You mentioned Dawn and Cass, but don't sleep on Dana! Her book How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind is just as helpful to me as her decluttering one. That being said, our home is still all over the place. I just feel more at peace knowing that I do have their tools therefore I don't get as overwhelmed anymore when things get crazy because I know where to start to get it back to almost manageable. Daily routines is the hardest for me and I think that is where the real "tidy" secret is is you've already decluttered. Also, it's never done.
I thought this too! Dana is all about the 'how do other people keep their houses so clean and tidy?!' and personal strategies for _maintaining_ - it's not magic, these other people don't have super powers, but they do do things regularly. Love me some Dana 'one hour better' 😊
Paper clutter is the worst. I tried to make most of my mail changes to electronic so I have less stuff coming in. When I check the mail, I immediately go to the shredder and trash/recycle bin. Get rid of everything that I don’t need. And file away what I need. If it’s something I need to deal with it has a spot.

Inviting someone over is a real kick in the butt. Leaving stuff out probably means you’re a visual organizer. Watched you for ages and I’ve always thought you were so together. And Haley is wonderful. Good job mom!!
I think it's impossible to be clutter-free with so many busy people living together in one house. You are super clean so a little clutter is ok! And don't be so hard on yourself about not knowing how to decorate. I think you do a good job at minimalist decor. For me, keeping things clean is the most important thing. I am constantly tidying up but it's a losing battle with my messy kids. Hailey is such a great helper - raised right.
For the Grove Bucket. All you needed to do was fold up a hand towel and put it under all those items. Then roll up a wash cloth with the loofas to make it cohesive. The lifting of the products in baskets and buckets are a huge help to making anything cute.

Next time, save the gochujang sauce.
Take your beef and rice and make a lettuce wrap, then use the sauce as a topping. A little bit goes a long way, but if you like spicy, you'll love it!

For paper clutter I reused a boxed wine box, and cut off one side. It sits on my counter and just looks like a box of wine. But it’s all of my paper things. I now am trying to go through it each week to keep it under control 😊
🥓I’ve not done this with thick cut bacon, but I start my bacon in cold oven. I start oven heat when the bacon goes in. It still takes about 20 minutes and it renders nicely. 😁

I don't have a relationship with my mom, so I can't ask her advice...or ask for recipes or how to be a good host or homemaker. I've been watching your videos since having my first child in 2019. I was looking for ways to get out of debt (we did it in 1.5yrs!) You don't know me, but man, you've helped me so much. I just started listening to your podcast. That picky eaters episode was so helpful! Your relationship advice has helped my marriage. Your parenting advice has helped my family. Your recipes have helped my wallet and satisfied my families stomachs! Thank you for inviting us into your home and life. You are a wonderful example that motherhood isn't sitting at home doing nothing all day. Also that life doesn't end after motherhood, thank you for sharing your adventures and interests with all of us!
Of course you have to clean!! You and all your kids and husband LIVE THERE!! No amount of decluttering takes away from the fact that when there’s a whole family living their daily lives in a house, there will be blankets to fold up, shoes and clothes to pick up, floors to be swept and vacuumed, laundry, dishes and just general crap build up!!! You’re doing a fine job Christine!!! Don’t be so hard on yourself!!! Now, go make all of us a Haley😂😂😂. PS…I keep all the important stuff, birth certificates etc in my cedar chest.

I follow The Minimal Mom and The Clutterbug too! What I’ve learned from them is that decluttering and cleaning isn’t the same thing. My house doesn’t get nearly as messy before all the decluttering, but it still needs to be maintained because 4 people live here. BTW- if Idaho was closer to Virginia, I would totally help you with decluttering, cleaning, organizing, etc!

Best thing my mother in law gave me when i got married, a three ring binder with sheet protoctors for important paper, birth certificates, titles, passports , marriage liscense. Make the binder pretty , glue a ribbon on it to tie close!

The best type of guest are those who give you notice (time to prepare/clean). I say this because you have a life, and family so, some days things don't get put away immediately. You may have school events, aporting events, meetings, ect... which means cleaning at times is done on the weekend instead of a week day.
If you don't have access to an ice machine, you can use cold tap water and change it 2-3 times.
I really appreciate you being honest about the aspects of looking after a home you find hard.

I think you're not seeing how much progress you've made! Sure your surfaces had a bit of clutter... but to me the measure is how far you are from tidy. And your living room wasn't overwhelming at all. You just cleared some clutter, vacuumed and DONE. It looked PERFECT after only a few minutes. So we'll done😊.
Watching Hailey vacuum the stairs made me immediately realize that not everyone knows my favorite cleaning hack. Use a squeegee to clean pet hair off stairs and any fabric furniture. Trust me, the amount of hair you’ll get off with very little effort is incredible.
Get the gift bags for the holidays with the differnt holiday scenes on them...then just use a tack in the wall and hang the bag from there...
To reduce the clutter I have learned to go through stuff and declutter and then just start again on an area I did about 6 months ago and keep going around and around on areas in my home. I have also just quit buying stuff or really thinking “Do I really NEED this or will I just get rid of it!” It has helped a ton!
I love the “un-decorated” look of your home! It’s so open, and everything has a purpose. Even in the before shots I would have felt super comfortable staying at your home. Homes that have lots of stuff just to look at, and lots of personal memorabilia are fun to visit for me, but I’m happier being a guest in a space that’s just open, a bit impersonal, and Clean. We over decorated two houses, and our third home is Intentionally just like yours. So much happier with it!

In regard to your questions regarding your "messiness "- we are the same person. We also have 4 kids. We have similar personality types. I can SO relate to the house cleaning stuff. I am my own worst enemy in that regard. The house reset has helped me so much.

I'm so impressed with the new words, like chic! I've been decluttering since 2020 and my house is never clean! Lol 😂 I feel your pain.
I don't touch the paper until I'm ready to process it. Like pay a bill, sign a field trip form, etc. Also, I stand at the recycling bin outside and throw away junk mail and any envelopes that are not needed.

Regarding paper clutter, I take photos of the paperwork that I need to refer back to and save it to a reminders/ favorite folder on my phone. Then, I set a reminder to follow up on it/ address it at the appropriate time. This method has seemed to work pretty well for me over the last few years. Hope that helps.
For the guest basket, you could crinkle paper in the bottom or something else like a towel, so the stuff stands out the top of the container so it's easier to see what is there
I say the SAME thing to myself! I'm always decluttering, and I work so hard, and yet my house is still messy. Dawn inspires me, but I don't know how she does it!

I couldn't stand the clutter, went back to basics, works great. A place for everything and everything in its place. If I drop something on the bed or chair, I taught myself to say, put it away now, then it won't bother you later. It works and now I am less stressed.
Using everything we can out of the freezer as we are getting ready to go south for the winter AND just before deer hunting season!! Planning to can more freezer items for next year. Applesauce, sweet corn, green beans, and all tomato products. Win, win.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am not someone who puts much emphasis on decor, and I am not gifted at it at all. It was good to know I am not alone. Dawn's paper system video really helped me with my paper shuffling and storage.
First, team Logan. Second, give yourself some grace. This is a busy season with a big family in sports, etc. and also you work and exercise from home and live in an area with all seasons. Dawn and Cass’ houses still get messy too. We still live in our houses. That’s normal. The benefit is that once you have decluttered and have systems in place, you know where things go and can clean it up in minutes (or sometimes realistically hours) instead of days.

When I get the mail I immediately toss the junk mail, I dont even open it, I hate that kind of clutter. I usually deep clean when company is coming but I am a little lax since it is just me and my husband cause all the kids have moved away, although I wish all the kids were still here with us. We have the same "recipe" for cooking bacon! When I smell it, I know it's time to check. My dad used to use bacon grease to pop popcorn in. It is delicious!

My family is very messy and It's hard to keep up with their mess making no matter how much stuff we have. I have decluttered at least half of our belongings and they still insist on having everything in plain sight all the time. The funny part is, they cant see something in front of their noses either so when items do sit around for over a couple weeks and me mentioning the items numerous times, I put it away... far away.
