  • I FINALLY MET CAMMY!!!
    *sort of...
For so long now, Charlie shows up with a proper "good morning, sheep fans" and today was no different...
    BUT...
he had NO IDEA what I had in store for him!!
    A visit from Cammy himself!!
Long ago, we had talked about him coming this way to shear with Charlie (his biggest fan...) but, well... plans were changed due to you know what.
    Today was really special.
...and I'm so unbelievably grateful to Cammy for the call.

my mother is a foot care nurse and she buys wool from a farmer and has it washed and then she will give it to her clients to put between their toes if they have pressure points or other sores that rub together It replaces corn pads and other dressings. Her clients LOVE it and ask for more when they run out. Just an idea of another potential market that may be interested in the clean wool. Love your Vlog. Just started watching a couple months ago. You should look into Felt Ornaments. I would SO love a couple sheep ornaments made from your sheep! They would fly off the shelf for Christmas. Also, Homemade ornament kits made with felt, they were very popular in the 70's and 80's, it would be a treat for people from that generation to be able to re-live that memory with the grandkids.

🇬🇧 With his one cool chammy (?) leather soft-shoe for the suble nudging of the sheep. Brilliant -- the way we were taught when we went on a course. However, the method never caught on with our three huge ewes (black lincoln longwool). I always ended up snipping underneath for three hours with kitchen scissors, unbending half way for coffee / grass break😊🐑

It's not that the wool shrinks (like a wool sweater in hot water) but that the vegie materal, dirt and lanolin that are washed out reduced the weight. Washed wool will keep. I agree you made the right decision about the felted wool.

I found Sandi because of Charlie shearing right before the roof blowoff, then Cammy posted his “going to shear 10,000” video and I found him. Sandi had about 50K AND Cami had about 15K. Times have changed. Many fun videos since then. Great Covid lockdown entertainment.

What you could do is drum-card it to batt stage, as that's the point where it can either go to be felted as is, or to be dized off to top for spinning.

The yarns I use is worsted weight yarn. First time to get you almost live. You're an amazing woman. You have so many skills that you're good 👍 at. One piece of advice. Never let the negative nannies get you down. They're just taking their own inadequacies out on you. You do great with your sheep. Good luck 👍 on all your endeavors.

You can tell how impressive Charlie is when he takes those long smooth strokes down each sheep right to the skin. 👌 Especially with no nicks! Plus all of those wrinkly, wiggly bellies because loose skin is the enemy when it comes to clippers; they will snatch it right up if you aren't careful.
Tote bags! That would be awesome! Especially if it's undyed because then I can needle felt "paint" a design on the bag.

So awesome seeing Red full grown. Such a beautiful colouring on the face and neck 😍.
I would love to see more straight up yarn to craft with. If the black wool isnt much or you have leftovers to not quite make into something there is always filler for projects. I make stuffed animals and pillows with crocheting and sell/give as gifts to people and always need to get filler for them. So the wool just washed would be easy to put as a filler if you need something to do will tidbits 🙂
And yes, Charlie is a legend 😄

I was one of the Instagram "no" to felted wool. Here's my reasoning, which I spelled out on IG, but will do so again for YT viewers. Felting requires a lot of wool (as you realize). It removes from the hands of knitters, crocheters, weavers, needle felters, and rug hookers the yarn they covet to make all sorts of garments, accessories, home goods, and other fiber art. Not only that, but if someone wants felt from your wool, (s)he can make felt with your wool yarn, as you know from making dryer balls. On another note, I'm glad you found an injection thingy that you like, and that is reliable. Your lambs are adorable (as usual). Your Golden Girls ditto!

    • @beverlywallace4920
      @beverlywallace4920 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree with you. Sandi has many fans that would love to get some of her wool and haven't been able to because it always sells out so fast. Since she only has a limited quantity of wool, I think it is better to stick to the various yarns and other products instead of devoting so much of the wool to felting.

Sandi I think felted slippers would be awesome not boring ones lol but fun ones I saw orange and purple elf slippers once at a Saturday market before Christmas I Love felted wool I used to go to the thrift store and buy wool blankets that had been shrunk because they were warmer!🧡💜🧡

Using the pre-shrunk wool blankets from thrift stores is a great idea!

Sandi I am so proud of u taking the leap and doing that ecropsy on that lamb. As u learn what things are suppose to look like you'll get better at finding the bad or problems.
Also u will find sometimes bugs u didn't think u had. And if u get stumps tax can guide u through collecting and sending off samples to the lab. I recommend u get the post mortem kits ahead of time before u need them. One giant leap and hurdle u have overcome.
Now are u sleeping or not. Always here day or night if u need to chat lady. Love ya

Yes, my father always made me do the autopsies if one passed unexpectedly. No better way to learn from experience of ...I forget the phrase at moment.

    Hi Sandi
What about simple felted wool blankets,
With our cold there just might be a market? Lol
    Have a great week

I absolutely ❤️ Felted wool items! I have a drawer full of various bags & other small felted items. I hope this project-idea of yours comes around again soon! (I even make my own felted items with old wool sweaters… you know, shrink ‘em intentionally!)

Have you considered wool batting for quilts? I think felted wool is used for that, too.

  • @jacquiemcglothlen6572

Yes, I think you have a good head and thought process. If I may, stick with the crafty side of your wool. You will always sell out and we all get to have a little something that is buyer friendly. Felted goods are gorgeous, but yes very costly for most. Crafters love the yarn and the needle felting kits. You are on the right thought process, wait and feel out the makers and process and cost. ❤

We had wool yarn that was too scratchy, so we crocheted a giant size cat bed and then ran it through the washing machine. It felted into the perfect size cat bed, just added a pillow. It was fun and used up some unusable yarn.

Sticking with your wool is a good idea. People are more likely to use it in their own projects like Woolen mittens and scarfs and can't use felt for that. I think felt has a cheep easily destructible feel.
