(WHAM) Some Local Businesses Adjusting Work Schedules for April 8 Total Solar Eclipse

Brockport, N.Y. (WHAM) - With Monroe County expecting thousands of visitors for the April 8 total solar eclipse, getting to and from work that day could be a headache.
Everyone will be affected in some way. At least one local company is making changes to alleviate some of the stress on its workers.
Sunnking, an electronics recycling company in Brockport, gives its employees the day off - allowing them to watch the eclipse however and wherever they choose.
"It's really exciting," said Sunnking's communications manager Laura Tingley. "It feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Rochester area. This is our first time doing something like this, so we look forward to it."
With Brockport directly on the path of totality and SUNY Brockport hosting an eclipse event, traffic could be especially busy near Sunnking.
"We know that there will be hundreds and thousands of people coming in and out," Tingley said. "With such a small road, we thought it would be best to give our employees the option to either view the eclipse themselves or stay home and not have to worry about getting stuck in a traffic mess."
Debra Ross, chair of Rochester's Eclipse Task Force, said other companies are following suit - so employees can make the most of the spectacle in the sky and avoid gridlock.
"Even just for traffic reasons, it’s a great reason to shift work schedules so you don’t add to the traffic flow immediately before and after the eclipse, especially when people are heading home," Ross said.
"As the momentum has been building up and more people are realizing and asking for the day off, businesses are realizing it's maybe a little bit more profitable to accommodate those needs on the day of April 8th," she continued.
Tingley said she appreciates working for a company accommodating its employees' needs.
"I am going to go out myself with the eclipse glasses and, as I said you really can’t hate a four-day weekend," she said. "I think it's going to be a lot of fun and everyone is really looking forward to it."
