By the way, the correct way to say the name of Win32s is "Win-32-S", not "Win-32s". The S stands for subset, as Win32s is a subset of the full Win32 API.
I used to work in Tech support for Sony and there would be some recurring issues there were basically a meme. Did you have anything like that back when you did tech support for a dial-up ISP?
@@adventuresinnostalgia425 Between being a PC tech at a retail computer store and eventually managing tech support at the ISP, I have seen a ton of stuff. As I'm sure you're aware, some people did, indeed, think CD-ROM trays were cup holders ;) I had to swap more than one drive because of this. lol
I went all out on my Win311 installation and installed way more than just that. I also installed the Calmira XP shell, along with startup and shutdown screens, XP style min/max/close buttons, icons, sound effects, etc. When I'm running it, it looks almost indistinguishable from Windows XP. Good video though 👍 I might have to try some of the programs you've tested here one of these days.
I recall using a Windows 3.11 replacement that looked identical to Windows 95. I did not know there was an XP lookalike shell. This is a game changer. Are you aware of any other shell replacements for Windows 3.11 besides MS BOB and Pac Bell Navigator?
@@adventuresinnostalgia425 Apparently YT doesn't like me even trying to hint at anything that even seems like a link ☹️ The GUI you saw was probably the more common branch of Calmira. I went with their 4.0 XP beta instead. Works pretty nice really, only significant known issue I've come across is that the file properties page doesn't work.
3:37 Tiles and Tribulations looks like some kind of Klax Knockoff, where you're supposed to drop the tiles from the paddle into the empty holes below, get 3 (or more) of the same colour in a row, horizontally, vertically or diagonally to clear those tiles.
@@adventuresinnostalgia425 Yes, just found a version on Internet Archive, where it uses the keyboard arrows, left/right move the paddle, down arrow drops the UPPERMOST tile to the holes below, and the up arrow key rotates the tiles on the paddle.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and support. I would like to expand my Windows 3.x content but it's difficult to find the time. I'm still trying to make up my mind on the topic for the next video. What sounds more interesting. Shell replacements like MS BOB and PacBell Navigator or program interoperability like being able to drag and drop text and images between programs?
Getright was fantastic. The ability to pause and resume downloads was a game changer. wasn't there another program similar to Getright? I can't think of what it was

I've not played that version but you drop the tiles into arrangements of 3 across, diagonally and vertically. You can also fling the tiles back up in KLAX but I don't know if you can do it in this game. You need to figure out the drop and fling keys.
Do you mean it would just be easier to use Windows 95 instead? If someone would like to use Windows 3.x for whatever purpose I would like to have tutorials that show them how. From a practical standpoint I can't think of a reason why you would use Windows 95 instead, unless the hardware simply couldn't handle it.
I remember a LOT of games being made/written to run on MS-DOS* even though Windows 95 was out, partly because of how many people still had DOS/Win 3.1(1fw) machines. Partly because of hardware issues. 1997 seemed to be the last year for Major MS-DOS releases.
By the way, the correct way to say the name of Win32s is "Win-32-S", not "Win-32s". The S stands for subset, as Win32s is a subset of the full Win32 API.
If I understand correctly, the S isn't blended with the Win32 part. so, it would be Win Thirty-Two Ess?
@@adventuresinnostalgia425 Yes. As I mentioned, S stood for "subset". Back then, I NEVER heard people say it as if the 32 were plural. LOL
