You could lease that machine out to others. Or resell it on open market to construction outfit. There is a way you can exit a bad purchase to mitigate loss. A machine like that has a market in Africa!

Very helpful hints there farmer ! I have invested in a few pieces of equipment too from the U.S and took them to east africa. That is a wheel loader as we call it here in the U.S, used mostly to load dirt, gravel, crushed stone etc in quarries and locations that sell that kind of material. You can fit it with forks and use it as a forklift too to off load flatbed trucks and move pallets, sea containers etc. I bought medium horse power ( 45-100hp) for my farm. Massey 165, massey 250, Ford 6600, Ford 4000, john deere 336 balers, Oliver corn picker and a new holland TR70 combine.

Nice video. At community level one can hire out some of these equipment though returns may be slow and not worth the original cost of the machine. I imagine people can also do collective purchase of a machine if they are doing farming in diff farms. Thre will be synergy of sharing the machine

I am starting a farm in Liberia, and all what he said is 100% true.
The reason being is at times itis impossible to know what is on the local market.
I brought a lot of drill bits from Europe because when I visited in 2016, I couldn't find any.
I just found a store that sells them far cheaper than in Europe.
I could have saved at least 2000€.

It makes sense to put the available capital into the right purchases at the right time. So I get your point.
On the other side it sounds like that this purchase was not a total failure for yourself, since it seems like you have the oportunity to generate additional income from it, even though this is not your main business.
Your knowledge about renting out equipment is probably limited but do you have some information about the demand and supply of rental equipment in your area? is there anything you or other farmers would like to be able to rent but there is no offer for it?
How are the rental fees in comparision to Europe?
I often have the impression that services which require special equipment are often more expensive in ghana than in Europe. Does this match with your experience?

This is partly true. I think you should have said if you're not good with your hands, don't buy it, if you're not willing to go through learning to use them, don't buy it. You can also rent tools to other farmers. In Kenya the tools I bought from US are either half or quarter the fake Chinese tools here. I think you did this video prematurely, that tractor you will finally use it, it only depends on how big you want your farm to be. For me I don't see the mistake you made. I think your timing for buying the items was bad but you will eventually appreciate what you bought. My thoughts
