4 of us would ride 2 bikes from the Garfield neighborhood in the late 60's to where the 2 towers were ----tower plaza mall 36th & Thomas. Go inside, enter the ice skating rink sports shop, look at clothes go out the door to the rink free, rich kids from that neighborhood who didn't care about the 50 cent deposit on the rental skates would leave them, we would pick them up, exchange for our size-ice skate, then go outside, borrow two Schwinn lemon crates and pedal back to the hood! Every Sunday sell the bike at Park &Swap!
I was there. I was at the bar across the street. That’s where the dude was and he climbed up there and man. It was crazy bro you could see him looking back as he fell backwards. He knew he was screwed he knew.🤷
Just east of there, where the towers are at 36th St and Thomas is where they used to call Tower Plaza. In fact Tower Liquors is still there. The Ice House Tavern is still there. I built bikes at that Walmart for the past 10 years. The business I worked for did me dirty so I had to move on. If I was still there I’d say stop by so I can tighten up your handlebars. To answer the question about someone jumping off the tower, the answer is yes. It was on TH-cam but they pulled it. It was a homeless native guy. His girlfriend had left him and he couldn’t handle it. He had balls of steel though because he climbed to the very top and stood on the top then jumped. In 2019 another guy climbed the same tower and made it 3/4 of the and got tired. I was there for that one and have pictures of the guy on the tower. I didn’t want to stay and see if he jumped, but I heard later that he was mentally ill and had gotten away from his caregiver. He had no sense of fear or danger.
