I am a rock singer and have my total thyroidectomy in 2 weeks and I'm terrified because singing is my joy in life. Thank you for posting your positive story, I feel a lot better now. Good luck with all your future singing - your voice is absolutely beautiful ❤

This video gives me so much hope. I’ve been crying since I found out I have hyperthyroidism, and to see my voice deteriorate over the course of two years, as an opera singer, really kills me inside. I feel all the light has been sucked out of my world. I hope everything gets better with you, and I hope that after my thyroidectomy, I can still return to being an opera singer.

I am so sorry to hear you have been struggling with all that... I used to be desperate about my voice too, it was always tired and shaky and really affected my opera training. But finding the source of my issue really changed everything! Im sure once you will be stabilised with your condition you will see some improvements. Good luck, I know how hard it is

Came across with this video because I had my whole thyroid removed last week... Today I can only sing first two notes in the lower octave. I was scared but upon seeing I found hope.

Hi you have a great voice.I am glad i found your video and gives me some hope.I had a total thyroid removal 5 weeks ago because of a very large goitre, although i am not a singer i have been concerned because my voice is weak and hoarse so i will be patient that it will come back stronger.Thank you for sharing your experience

I am so sorry you have had to go through this 😔 I know someone who also had surgery for goiter she initially had a vocal fold paralysed post surgery and three months later everything was back to normal and she had an amazing career as an opera singer! Do not lose hope ❤️ also if you can I would advise you to do some speech therapy, the earlier the better according to some research I have read :). Keep in mind that 5 weeks is very recent! Good luck with everything

Such great news, congrats to you! And your voice sounds amazing.I'm not a singer, but the thought of losing my voice (before we knew exactly what kind of cancer I had, we thought it was on my vocal cords), scared me more than anything. So I can't even imagine how you must have felt when you rely on your voice so much. Hope the recovery and stamina continue to improve! (I found this video from /thyroidcancer on reddit).

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am one month and four days post op from my total thyroidectomy. I am a theatre teacher and singer; both my speaking voice and singing voice are very important to me. I am not as quickly recovered as you, but feel my voice getting stronger very day. I am naturally a alto, with a bit of mezzo range abilities. Right now, I can only hit my lower alto range. Anytime I try get into my passaggio, my voice vibrates and I sound like a frog 🐸 😅. It breaks my heart a little that I can't do more, but am hopeful I will eventually heal fully. My choir teacher co-worker has given me a few warm up techniques to help gain my vocal strength slowly. I remain hopeful. Again, thank you for sharing your story.

Hello 😊 one month is still very very early!!! I remember not being able to sing some high notes at that point and my voice was getting tired really quickly. It's amazing you are seeing some improvement, keep practicing, you got this ❤️

June 1,2022.Its been 2 years and 3mos.since my total thyroidectomy. I lost my voice and its even hard to whisper. After my surgery my surgeon told me that my voice will go back to normal after 3 to 4 mos. But until now my voice is not fully recovered specially my falsetto..i feel tiredness, pain on my vocal cords after 1hour song rehersals...before my sugery i can even sing 12hours without feeling any pain on my throat.my body feels weak too...sometimes i feel regret to undergone surgery...if its not cancerous please think twice before having thyroid removal... try to find alternative ways if possible. i just hope i can sing again just like before....I really miss my voice...😭😭😭

I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 are you able to see a speech therapist and vocal coach ? They can sometimes do miracles! You might just need a bit of guidance to recover properly and use the right muscles 🙏🏻 I know that it would have been hard for me to recover without guidance from my vocal coach. I would really go see someone if you can! Take care and good luck.

I had a right thyroid lobectomy done back in 2020. When I try to hit high notes now I can feel my chords "fall" so to speak and sometimes it just won't hit at all. Also I have constant sore throat issues. I wake up and my throat hurts and swallowing is getting harder. When I yawn now I have to be careful or the muscles in my throat tighten up. I used to be able to hit 8 octaves. I would love to know how to get back my vocal range. Thank you.

Hello :) I am so sorry to hear that 😔 do you know if you have a vocal fold paralysed? If so you might want to think of getting a vocal fold augmentation? In any case with or without paralysis speech therapy can be incredibly helpful!! Have you tried it? If not I would most definitely start there. Good luck! There is hope

Hello 😊 I understand your fear, I know it's hard and I am sorry you have to go through this. Please make sure you get your surgery with a specialist who does a lot of thyroidectomies as this will immensely increase your chance to get the best outcome possible ! I haven't struggled too much with weight management :) some people do, other don't we all are different. Good luck with everything
