I originally built this as knight tribal, but it wasn’t doing it for me and converted it to Voltron and yes. The Voltron build (witth Sunforger) is so good!

Stuck between Voltron and Knight tribal. I have LOADS of the cards you have mentioned/included. I do not have Sword of Fire and Ice or Light and Shadow, Champion's Helm, Assault Suit. I have almost all of the other cards you have here. I also have an amazing list of around 35 knights I believe. Maybe after work tonight I will try to weed a few cards out. Thanks for decklist/video and keep up the great work. I am a new subscriber and look forward to more ideas for commander decks from more people. P.S. I think I have around 50 commander decks at the moment. All of the store bought decks from 2017, 2019 and 2020 and the rest are home-brew decks. Cheers!!!
IMO tribes are always tricky. If you are running 25-30 creatures it just doesn't leave that much room for other effects and things that you need, and a lot of times having a ton of ton of creatures in play you just fold to a board wipe. So I generally only like to do tribes at the more chill power levels of play.

I looked at a few. Rakdos charm was in an out of the deck, I think i cut before i exported the decklist. Ive done the gatherer search for it in the past. There are a few interesting ones, but largely i think anguished and utter end are probably the most exciting. Blue gets you some interesting counter spells. Been a while since I've done the green search.

Just saying, the Leonin Shikari ability _also_ allows you to do things like: 1) Get the triggers from any Swords (Feast & Famine, Fire & Ice, Sinew & Steel) you might have, by instant-speed moving that equipment to an unblocked creature. End-play people this way too. 2) Get Dowsing Dagger to flip, by pulling the above-mentioned trick with the Swords. Additionally, for mana ramp, one card I've used that has done work is Prying Blade, which makes a Treasure token when it hits a player. That extra mana has been relevant for me in games, so I would recommend it as a consideration. A second consideration is a Sanctuary Blade, a sword that grants protection, via calling a color when it equips. In this kind of a deck, that is _very_ relevant at instant speed. Third, if you can get it, Shadowspear is severely underrated. Why? Because if anyone has indestructible creatures, or if an opponent is attempting to use spot removal, the second ability on Shadowspear gets rid of hexproof and indestructible -- and more importantly, _doesn't need to be equipped to a creature to use the second ability._
There is other equipment what doing same. When hit opponent gives treasure. There is good saga enchantment first two chapters gives treasure and third search or revile cards for equipment. Where is good land what search both equipment and aura two your hand for 4 mana ( Red, white,2 colores).
Thanks! I don't think its anymore glassy than any other voltron deck. But the card draw and the free equips make really put it at the top of voltron in my opinion.
Oh man I miss my voltron Aurelia deck. It was switched into Akiri Bruse then into Feather. Gonna strip feather of the equipments and move to Syr Gwyn, and move feather back to a more spell based kind of thing. After the SFM unbanning can really only have 1 good equipment deck at a time now :/

I’m most surprised you left out Rakdos Charm. It’s a removal, grave hate, and can punish token/certain combo decks. It’s in 100% of my decks that can run in it.
Great for voltron because you don’t have a lot of creatures and can be player removal against go wide decks. I love the versatility of charms In general. I would definitely include it, especially with sunforger.
Jeffrey Krismer that’s the exact kind of combo it is good against. It’s also a great mode for token decks. Not to mention being a Shatter and a Tormod’s Crypt. It and Boros are the best charms by a huge margin.
I am very interested in your take on mardu knights in the next video. I don't think Syr Gwen is particularly good for knight tribal, but I have been thinking about making a Queen Marchesa build for a while now.
Probably aiming for next monday with that one. Its such a powerful card, that it certainly won't be bad. And actually the card draw of swining with 2 or 3 equipped creatures over comes a lot of problems associated with tribal. In my opinion, I still don't think its best role is a typical 30 creature tribal deck though. Maybe like 22-24 creatures, I would expect to have maybe 3 knights in play at a given time with a few equipments on. Leave one for the attacking and leave one blocking....thats what I think the best version of knight tribal would be for this commander. Probably some similarity to the cat deck from a few years ago where you make 1 or 2 cats real big. Anyway those my thoughts, Should have a full video next week on the tribal build.
I feel like Walking Atlas would be a good card for this deck, as you can draw a lot of cards and putting an extra land into play each turn would do some nutty things. Plus, you can Enlightened tutor for it.
For this build not really. I mean yo udon really have more than 2 or 3 creatures in at time. In the knight tribal where maybe you are drawing 4 or 5 at a time, but even then it doesn't seem like the best fit. It is a card i like in decks that can draw a lot though.
Mardu is the new Boros =) New knights in Eldraine are also cool, so I'm actually torn between voltron and tribal+some equipments. Also, Sunforger is THE BEST equipment hands down. It's good in Aurelia, It's great in Feather, it's devastating in Gwyn.
What do you think about Sword of Truth and Justice in this as a knight tribal deck? Start putting +1/+1 on your knights and continue the proliferate train. That and TJ could make Syr Gwyn closer to lethal commander damage.
AsgardGaming sure, if you’re doing a go wide knight tribal and run stuff like metallic mimic and cathars crusade or if you’re doing vampire knights it gets a lot better with uncle Eddie and friends.
I saw it in the deck list but I don't think you mentioned it: Blackblade Reforged is just a beating, I'm thinking it's a must have in any Voltron style deck. It easily cuts the number of hits needed to Commander Damage someone out of the game in half or possibly even fewer. It also protects your Commander from most forms of damage based removal or getting gang blocked into oblivion.
Uhhh...Vorrac Battlehorns? Your commander has menace, and likes equipment. If it can only be blocked by one creature, AND has to be blocked by at least two, it just has unblockable.
Kokonut Binks not really there is whispersilk cloak but the shroud is a nonbo and there is hot soup that has a nasty downside. Trailblazer boots and prowlers helm are a little conditional and don’t pump power and toughness.

Im just getting into mtg so im a little late to the party, but iv been watching your Syr Gwyn videos and now that sometime has passed was wondering which deck style is consistently stronger, Syr Gwyn tribal or voltron.
Voltron by quite a large margin. Voltron is really well positioned right now. I usually have to hold back at most tables these days, though Syr gwyn at 6 is a lot and is not the quickest Thing ever. Run lots of protection. I do love knights as a tribe but sadly they just aren’t very strong. If power is what you’re after, definitely voltron.

Sadly my paper version is like 60% of deck right now...it got raided for all of the good swords and tutors and i havent bothered to try and rebuild it yet.
Any chance you'd try and make a hybrid voltron/knight tribal deck? I was hoping to make a fairly casual dual purpose deck where depending on how things are going in the game I choose what suits my needs. Or perhaps aggro knight to start, and then voltron late game for the win.
Yeah I've got a second decklist that I've started testing out for just that. I think my creature count was about 24. More about the team dynamic of having a bunch of knights. Give that a week or so and i should have it up.
Im not big on those. You really need to have a lot of creature to want pennon blade, or stone forge master work. Blackblade reforged and colossus hammer will just be way better in this deck if you are looking to make something big. Sigiled sword is reasonable though. Spits out tokens which is nice.
Yep that one isn't always an auto include for me, but if I didn't have teferis protection I would probably run it more. I have seen it do work late in a game. Here comes that alpha strike, nope.
Honestly I just couldnt get the knight tribal deck to work effectively, and tried quite a few times. Theres just so much incentive for Syr Gwyn to be voltron that I found the damage from the other knights was negliglbe. However, there ability to provide utility effects and blockers is still valuable. If you wanted a more creature heavy version of the deck, id say about 22 creatures mostly knights. But id still keep most of the other stuff in the deck focused on getting there with equipments. Thats just my take on it, feel free to test your own version.

I really like Syr Gwyn... But man I really don't like her casting cost. Mainly because the other Brawl commanders were so aggressively costed with instant gratification. Anyway still excited for gameplay
Thoughts on Syr Gwyn currently. Shes still a powerful card, but the 6 mana without haste does make her a touch slow and a big target which is hard to recast if she gets blown up. So shes not bad by any means, but it is possible for opponents to go smaller and faster than you. If you're looking to play equipment there are faster more consistent commanders. For overall power Bruenor is absolutely insane. Any partner paring with Ardenn is also really strong. If you like something that values a bit more Kassandra + Spear of leonidas is a really cool deck.
@@jaylen5442 Yes indeed you wil typically want 2-3 extra combats in a voltron deck. For maximum success I would run something like 15 pieces of ramp, maybe about 15 creatures, 3 extra combats, 5-10 pieces of protection because people love to fire removal at voltron decks, 10-13 pieces of removal. I typically run less card draw than most but I usually run about 4 tutors to go find mask of memory and any early tutor is almost always mask or sword of the animist. Based on the numbers mentioned you'll need things that overlap to not run out of deck slots, for example creatures or equipment that are removal or protection etc etc.
Id have to double check but im not sure it was printed when this video was made. But yes those 2 together have won me many games. The best being when someone had aven mindcesnor in play and my only out was to rip something good in the top 4...which was akromas will.
That card just popped onto my radar. I need to test it. It has potential. Someone was playing an Evra deck yesterday with Surestrike. I would imagine that you probably need blackblade or colossus to make it worth it, or just if its late game and life totals get low, but it seems promising.
Thats been on my mind as well. Thinking I'm going to do an upgrade from the brawl precon video at some point. Im pretty sure stone forge mystic, feast and famine, and fire and ice is probably in the neighborhood of 250.
Lol yeah. I have a sisay weather light captain deck for that, I like it because I can tutor it when needed and only pay 5 and don’t worry about it getting stuck in the hand.
I intended not to use Sunforger in my deck, because that would mean less knights and equipments. Plus there are other tactics then going Voltron with this commander. Yeah ill have a separate video for Knight Tribal. As I mentioned, Knights and Voltron are the ways to focus the main ways to focus the deck. You've gone a more knight tribal route. I hear you on the number of deck slots you lose to sun forger, but its just so good. Mine features SF just had to go real tight on everything.
Commander Replay I am just waiting for a commander Video that tries the artifact control route. Honestly though, Mardu is really hard to make a unique deck around..... Debatable the hardest. (Kinda been ignored till this set.)
Dataloss484 maybe but I think some cost reduction on artifacts and sram making all my equipment cantrip seems like straight gas while drawing one extra card per turn off of swinging with my commander is kinda meh although you get that either way. I might not run sram in knight tribal because you can suit up multiple knights and get multiple draws per turn just from the commander but I would definitely run sram in a voltron build.
Sram at best will draw maybe 2 or 3 cards. Thats if you draw it before the your equipments. If I needed more card draw, painful truths and ambitions cost are just more consistent. And you really only want those when your commander goes down.
i just wish the accompaning deck was actually good, but no, it has like 2 cards estimated at 10 dollars, a signet and nothing else it doesn't even have half the good uncommons from eldraine that fit perfectly in it!
@@jakeapplegate6642 i would have liked general improved value, most value is in one or two cards. but not neccesarily monetary value is what i care about, i would have like more cards that are cheap but good, whereas currently alot of the cards in the deck are not just cheap or bad, they are also just unplayable jank. and even as a brawl deck there are at least 10 cards i would instantly replace. ofcourse im looking to EDH-ify it, but even my low-ish standards for edh decks won't allow for half the cards in the deck, whereas for example the recent Aurelia guild deck got to keep 80% of its cards in the first iteration when i EDH-ified it.
jevry I made Edh decks from the guild kits and there is no way you kept 80% of the cards they had a lot of duplicates including some 4x. I went and checked and actually I was wrong about how many duplicates they have. Only signets and bounce lands 4x. My bad. Still a lot of stuff that is trash in commander.

Adding black to your Sunforger package adds options such as Bedevil, Anguished Unmaking, and Utter End.

I watched it shut down a Kiki-Jiki combo once and kill the player in the process.

Duelist's Heritage and Tainted Strike are good cause you can play it on your opponent creatures and have them finish them off

While I do like Syr Gwyn, the Jund commander Korvold is my favorite new commander option from this set. Also did you test Fireshrieker for this deck?

It's a 2 drop, 1 equip. So not many, especially because it's niche and budget.

Ive been having some difficulty with it as to how viable it actually is. Play tested a few and it didn't go well, but Ill keep working on it.

However, there ability to provide utility effects and blockers is still valuable. If you wanted a more creature heavy version of the deck, id say about 22 creatures mostly knights. But id still keep most of the other stuff in the deck focused on getting there with equipments. Thats just my take on it, feel free to test your own version.

I really like Syr Gwyn... But man I really don't like her casting cost.
Mainly because the other Brawl commanders were so aggressively costed with instant gratification.

Thoughts on Syr Gwyn currently. Shes still a powerful card, but the 6 mana without haste does make her a touch slow and a big target which is hard to recast if she gets blown up. So shes not bad by any means, but it is possible for opponents to go smaller and faster than you. If you're looking to play equipment there are faster more consistent commanders. For overall power Bruenor is absolutely insane. Any partner paring with Ardenn is also really strong. If you like something that values a bit more Kassandra + Spear of leonidas is a really cool deck.

@@jaylen5442 Yes indeed you wil typically want 2-3 extra combats in a voltron deck. For maximum success I would run something like 15 pieces of ramp, maybe about 15 creatures, 3 extra combats, 5-10 pieces of protection because people love to fire removal at voltron decks, 10-13 pieces of removal. I typically run less card draw than most but I usually run about 4 tutors to go find mask of memory and any early tutor is almost always mask or sword of the animist. Based on the numbers mentioned you'll need things that overlap to not run out of deck slots, for example creatures or equipment that are removal or protection etc etc.

Id have to double check but im not sure it was printed when this video was made. But yes those 2 together have won me many games. The best being when someone had aven mindcesnor in play and my only out was to rip something good in the top 4...which was akromas will.

That card just popped onto my radar. I need to test it. It has potential. Someone was playing an Evra deck yesterday with Surestrike. I would imagine that you probably need blackblade or colossus to make it worth it, or just if its late game and life totals get low, but it seems promising.

Works better with more knights. If the creature count is low I’m more tempted to go with hammer of Nazanh and dark steel plate. Good card tho.

Thats been on my mind as well. Thinking I'm going to do an upgrade from the brawl precon video at some point. Im pretty sure stone forge mystic, feast and famine, and fire and ice is probably in the neighborhood of 250.

I intended not to use Sunforger in my deck, because that would mean less knights and equipments. Plus there are other tactics then going Voltron with this commander. Yeah ill have a separate video for Knight Tribal. As I mentioned, Knights and Voltron are the ways to focus the main ways to focus the deck. You've gone a more knight tribal route. I hear you on the number of deck slots you lose to sun forger, but its just so good. Mine features SF just had to go real tight on everything.
Commander Replay I am just waiting for a commander Video that tries the artifact control route. Honestly though, Mardu is really hard to make a unique deck around..... Debatable the hardest. (Kinda been ignored till this set.)

Dataloss484 maybe but I think some cost reduction on artifacts and sram making all my equipment cantrip seems like straight gas while drawing one extra card per turn off of swinging with my commander is kinda meh although you get that either way. I might not run sram in knight tribal because you can suit up multiple knights and get multiple draws per turn just from the commander but I would definitely run sram in a voltron build.
Sram at best will draw maybe 2 or 3 cards. Thats if you draw it before the your equipments. If I needed more card draw, painful truths and ambitions cost are just more consistent. And you really only want those when your commander goes down.

I had to buy the precon deck on MTGO to get the commander, it was $14. I feel ya. Wish it had the removal spell knight, that thing looks crazy good.

@@jakeapplegate6642 i would have liked general improved value, most value is in one or two cards. but not neccesarily monetary value is what i care about, i would have like more cards that are cheap but good, whereas currently alot of the cards in the deck are not just cheap or bad, they are also just unplayable jank. and even as a brawl deck there are at least 10 cards i would instantly replace.
ofcourse im looking to EDH-ify it, but even my low-ish standards for edh decks won't allow for half the cards in the deck, whereas for example the recent Aurelia guild deck got to keep 80% of its cards in the first iteration when i EDH-ified it.
jevry I made Edh decks from the guild kits and there is no way you kept 80% of the cards they had a lot of duplicates including some 4x.
I went and checked and actually I was wrong about how many duplicates they have. Only signets and bounce lands 4x. My bad. Still a lot of stuff that is trash in commander.
