  • A widowed lawyer wanted by the IRS assumes a new identity and signs his now-too-old son up for one more year of Little League. However, this may have been a mistake, as his son's dominance captures the media's attention as his team careens toward the Little League World Series.

What Micky's dad needed was a Presidential Pardon. The President orders the IRS to back off!!!! When Micky becomes rich they can pay Uncle Sam what they owe him.

So I was an extra in this movie!!! John Grisham owns the ballpark I used to play softball at. And he owns the rights to this movie as it was based on one of books. When they made the film he wanted to film some of the scenes at the ballpark and have all the teams, players, families, coaches and staff. I have not seen the movie yet, in all these years I know, but I have a newspaper clipping and I remember being there. Eating free dipping dots, the film crew etc.

What a great movie! I loved it! Anytime you see a movie by John Grisham, watch it because it's food for the soul! John's writings are art at its finest in contemporary fiction and film and the casting and directing here were right on and Harry Connick, Jr., well. what's not to love about him? There is something in this film for everyone baseball fan or not. It's about courage to face up to our mistakes, take the consequences and move on and that is real and it's life, pass it on...

Great movie Mr. Grisham. I really felt for the catcher. I was a catcher during those years. We had a 3rd baseman with a throwing arm to first base like a rifle shot. He was also the relief pitcher. I carried a sponge in my pocket in case he was called up. I put the sponge in my catcher's mitt to protect my hand.

I caught my neighbor and best friend in high school. He was the Junior and Varsity pitcher for our team. I wasn't on the team. But they allowed me for a while to catch him. He wanted me to catch him more than anyone. I wasn't going to play because I had a more important thing on my mind. I was simply waiting to turn 17 so I could join the Army and go kill the mfr's that had killed my older brother 5 years earlier in Vietnam!!!
The pitcher I was catching for was good. He ended up getting a chance with the St Louis farm club.

My son was chosen to play on the best of the best all star team..The team was a mixture from different district and towns..His team was invited to play against the all star team of Williamsport..He played on the actual field where little league started..Not the field on T.V. nor with cameras or a big crowd, but to us the parents, we understand the significance of that ballpark..They played a doubleheader winning both game, having a homer in each..Next to his numerous game balls and a trophy or two is a sod of grass so he always remembers that special place...I'm quite proud of him..

A suspenseful sports movie with some legal drama with the personal father/son relationship element and the difficulties of losing a spouse and mother: John Grisham, one of my favorite authors, always writes with a purpose. Many lessons to be learned in this film! Well done in every way!! 😊

I don't know what too say? Honestly till I was just browsing earlier this evening, and I caught the title of this film. I had no prior knowledge of it. A great film I thought, and a tough situation in the plot. Is the story a true one?, or is it fictional? Which ever is not important as far as the ending is what matters. Cheating in anyway is not comendable in any form what so ever. IT takes the glory, and satisfaction away from the Victory, the Winner, or Winner's, have achieved. The cast was exceptional, the portrayal of the characters, was very believable. I truly thought it was a true story brought too the screen that I had no prior knowledge of. Alas as I said I really enjoyed it, and felt good at the outcome. Last thing is everything of John Grishmans I have read, or scene, I have been totally impressed with. Thank you for Airing this film Mickey. Wyo,

Interesting movie. Harry Connick, Jr.'s portrayal of the dad really brought out the moral dilemma that someone in that predicament can face. Faced with a tremendously burdening situation, raising his son as a single father, he broke the tax laws to make ends meet. Owning up to the crime meant leaving his son, which led to his compounding choice to run and relocate with new identities and involving his son in a deception. I have followed Little League closely all my life, even umpired for 33 seasons, and, until it popped up as a suggestion on TH-cam, I was not aware of this movie, which was obviously made with the full cooperation of Little League International. The LLB patches on the uniforms, a fictional Little League World Series filmed at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with the teams in their regional uniforms, even bringing in Brent Musberger and Harold Reynolds for the "ABC telecast" of the "championship game" shows that Little League headquarters partnered with the filmmakers in this movie. The movie depicts the story as taking place in the 2001 Little League season. Controversy did swirl around that Little League World Series because the Rolando Paulino Little League of the Bronx, New York, used several over-age boys to get to Williamsport before losing to Appopka, Florida, in the U.S, Championship Game. The most famous -- or infamous -- of those over-age boys was 14-year-old Danny Almonte, a left-handed pitcher who was hitting 73, 75, and above on the radar gun from 46 feet away. He pitched a perfect game against Florida in the pool-play opener but the team lost to the Florida team in the U.S. Championship game because it was not Almonte's turn to pitch. It was also, like in this movie, a re-location scenario. Before moving from the Dominican Republic to New York City, Danny's dad re-registered his son's birth (apparently allowed under Dominican law) but made it exactly two years later than it actually was. It was several weeks after the World Series ended (won by Japan) that the cheating was fully exposed. Little League ordered the Bronx's consolation game victory forfeited and all their other wins vacated. The league was suspended, and eventually renamed. What Little League's punishment in 2001 was not able to do, and what wasn't even touched upon in this movie, was give the children who lost games to a team that was using over-age boys their tournament advancement; another team should have played in the sectional tournament, in the state tournament, in the regional tournament, and in the World Series. While the ending of the movie is unrealistic, I consider Mickey worth watching because it does bring out realistic emotions and highlights real-life-type dilemmas that call for moral decisions. I think of the line from Sir Walter Scott's 1808 poem, "Marmion: A Tale of Flodden Field," that reads, "Oh what a tangled web we weave When first we practice to deceive."

54 seconds in, and already an innacuraccy: 12 is NOT "the last year of little league," unless you decide it is. There are divisions up to age 18 in Little League.
