Nice song... I spent 8 summers at Camp Sea Haven on The Island in the 50s & 60s... best summers of my life... a humbling experience... The camp was for polio and other diseased children run by the Harrington family... Thanks Dan & Dan Jr
The place where my parents met and the only place on the ocean that we would vacation when I was young. Plum Island is part of my family history and forever in my heart.
Spent some time here as a young child with my family. We used to drive up from Boston (Cambridge). I remember the miles of sandy dunes and the wooden plank walks. Also the greenhead flies (ugh!). Plum Island is a beautiful sanctuary and will always hold a place in my heart surrounded by warm childhood memories. I can still hear the clacking of my sandals on the sand and smell the Coppertone as I'm writing this.
NIce! But it would be fun to add the grit of PI- like the blood sucking green heads, unbearably endless cold & snowy winters, and house eating storms. Also- sub the PI Coma & Marthas for Haleys & the Galley.
While this was nice, Plum Island has a song already - a National Anthem, in fact. :) THE PLUM ISLAND NATIONAL ANTHEM (Solo male singer accompanied by fife and drum) Come all ye Newburyporters, and listen to my song If you’ve a short attention span I shall not make it long I am a Plum Islander; Plum Island is my home When green head flies fill the skies, no man walks alone CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea. We cannot drink the water here; we truck it in from town We cannot flush our toilets when the water table’s down We cannot drink the water, so all we drink is beer And when the tides are running high the roads all disappear! CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea. In my front yard there’s naught but sand where once I had a lawn And my whole house sits on the beach now that the dunes are gone And on that beach in summer time, a horde of tourists lie And when you hear the screams you know it’s lunchtime for the flies CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea. Someday Plum Island we shall make an independent nation Protected by our green head flies, flying in formation And when the storms are raging, and snow is coming down thank God we’ve got a bar out here since we can’t get to town. CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea. FINALE: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me Sinking as the sun sets into At-Lan-tic Sea.
I had that record! My grandmother had a house on Plum Island, it was my second home every summer as a child. I miss it, even the green head flies, and the really strong undertow at the beach. Lol

I have fond memories of living on Plum Island in the 80s. Winters were rough, but fun.
Love this! Plum Island is such a special place. My first Island Love.

THE PLUM ISLAND NATIONAL ANTHEM
(Solo male singer accompanied by fife and drum)
Come all ye Newburyporters,
and listen to my song
If you’ve a short attention span I shall
not make it long
I am a Plum Islander; Plum Island is my home
When green head flies fill the skies,
no man walks alone
CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me
Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea.
We cannot drink the water here;
we truck it in from town
We cannot flush our toilets when
the water table’s down
We cannot drink the water, so all we drink is beer
And when the tides are running high
the roads all disappear!
CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me
Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea.
In my front yard there’s naught but sand where once I had a lawn
And my whole house sits on the beach
now that the dunes are gone
And on that beach in summer time,
a horde of tourists lie
And when you hear the screams you know
it’s lunchtime for the flies
CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me
Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea.
Someday Plum Island we shall make
an independent nation
Protected by our green head flies,
flying in formation
And when the storms are raging,
and snow is coming down
thank God we’ve got a bar out here
since we can’t get to town.
CHORUS: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me
Sinking as the sun sets into Atlantic Sea.
FINALE: To me way, hey Plum Island, the only home for me
Sinking as the sun sets into At-Lan-tic Sea.
