She possesses every kind of timber, tone and nuance in her voice, and can vocalize these simultaneously. High sweet thin reed like tone, with an underscore of deep soft bass tone underneath ....at the same time .... for example. She can reinvent a song and its tempo and improvise in ways that no one has ever been able to come close to. If you listen to her again and again, you will realize, that unlike most singers, the more you listen, the MORE you will hear going on. Where as with most singers, the opposite is what happens. What an artist .her records for Decca,verve Pablo .the Decca ones often forgotten . .my least favorites ,cole Porter ,Richard Rodgers,still fine .her Gershwin ,so superb ,particularly what she and Nelson Riddle do with Man ,I love . Ofcourse Chris Connor ,Sarah could be cited with recordings Back to the Ella ,her greatest one being Ellington ,Strayhorn being her greatest .then all her live concerts .her recordings will never die

I knew Ella was good person...this documentary really shows the huge heart she had (medical issues not withstanding).
of course her voice wasn’t one of the greatest cmon HOWEVER, it was full of feeling and powerful and skillful boy was she skillful!!!!
