IMPORTANT TIP IMO ------> After you shot a deer or boar or whatever, STAY put for a while (you can wait longer depending on the kind of blood you found). Thats because if you dont go running after an animal after its shot, it will likely lay down not too far ahead, and if its shot good it will die there. So if you wait a little you actually make the proccess of tracking quicker and easier. that was a thing in classic so not too many are talking about it but if you are a cotw player you may not understand why tracking seems SO hard.
I figured this out today. Hollywood, the mule deer, was shot in the left lung and he laid down about 100 yards forward. I found him and was all excited that I got him. Not even 3 seconds later he jumped up and kept running.
I learned that the hard way irl. Shot the biggest buck I ever seen, he fell. I jumped up screaming like a idiot and he got up and ran off. I never found him. I havent been hunting in about 15 years now.. smh.

Animals can bed down after being shot in Classic, only thing is that they will not get back up if you run after them. In WotH you must take a couple of minutes and wait before you go after your kill or there is a chance it will get up and run away when it senses you coming. They do have an animation, you can see how they look laying down in WotH and so when it kills over or even if you don't see it's info card in the corner, then you know it's dead.
Here are my pro tips. Hunter sense while aiming with your gun. I now always shoot with my hunter sense on. The hunter sense will show the range distance of the shot on that red dot. I used to never pay attention to the info on the top right but it is a good way to see range distance on the shot without having to pull out the binoculars to check the range. Also you can tell if you are going to hit a branch or something in the way of the shot by noticing that range distance drop or fluctuate by moving around different areas on the animal. If you move the red dot around the animal and the distance is the same all around then you are ok to take the shot without something in the way. Also the red dot you see when hunter sense is on also adjust based on your zeroing. So even if you have an animal at 200yd if you zero to 164 the red dot will adjust and move slightly lower from the crosshair allowing you to adjust the shot based on what ever zeroing you have on. You can even set the zeroing to 300+ and take a shot on a 150yd animal and you will notice the red dot much higher from center of crosshair. The red dot also adjust to wind. So on days where it is over 30+ mph this can sway the shot on 218+ range shots. This is why I always shoot with my hunter sense on because that red dot is where the bullet is going to go. Also not everyone going to know that you can go prone. On PC this was not obvious and thought there was no prone because there was no dedicated prone button. But if you hold the crouch button you will go prone. I had not figured this out for a while. The hunting tiers on the guns are just a base. Pay attention to the hit energy ratting. Look at the encyclopedia, go to animals, then click which animal you are hunting. It will show the hit energy minimal and maximum. Go to the range and keep the hunter sense on and aim at the targets down range. You will see the hit energy rating top right. This will give you an indication if you got enough energy to pierce the flesh into the animal. Steyr Pro Hunter II is going to be the best rifle for normal ranges of 300yds and under. It will kill everything in tier 5 and it won't destroy wolves which any other tier 5 weapon you use besides the Pro Hunter II will destroy your hunter ratting. Your hunter ratting is based on the hit energy and how ethical the kill was. If you use the Monobloc on a wolf the hit energy is too high and you will get a 1 star hunter ratting. The way to get that hit energy under for a wolf is to snipe it over 300yds to reduce the hit energy to get a better hunter ratting. Steyr SM12 is perfect for all tier 6, bears, elk, and moose. If yo get Steyr Carbon CL II this is over kill even at 300yds. This weapon is if you want to hit targets at extreme ranges and want to get your snipe on. Steyr Scout is great for badgers and fox. It can even kill mule and white tail but you have to hit them at 100yds or closer to even get the 1500J minimum to penetrate the hide. 22LR is ok for all birds, but don't expect to hit anything in the air with it. Ok this tip is controversial tip. So it is up to you if you want to do this. You can use photo mode to spot animals around you or animals you are tracking. If you hear a animal that is 160yd or so, go into photo mode and fly around to get an angle and spot the animal. Also in photo mode it adjust the the lighting to the brightest day making it easier to spot an animal with it. Think of it as a drone that flies around. It does make hunting way easier and you can spot herds and where they are traveling making it easier for you to cut off the herd and line a shot up. If you got a ton of trees in the way but know you are in range of using a caller you can use the caller and use photo mode to see if the animal is coming towrds you. The photo mode also stops time so you can take your time to spot things you would not spot otherwise at ground level. Also photo mode range at which you can fly around is insane, you can go I think 200yds from any direction from your character. So some people might say this is cheating. Also dont use the tower if deer are near by. They spook 100% the second you climb the ladder. Even if you successfully sneak up on them without even alerting them, the second you climb that ladder it is the same as standing and walking around by them.
You’re correct about spooking deer while climbing , but after 5 minutes of waiting in the tower I had two deer at the bottom of the ladder. Literally touching the ladder. The towers are more of a waiting game.
That photo mode thing is crazy. Never thought u could use it like that. Also I never had a problem climbing ladders when any animal is close. The only time I spook them is when I'm sprinting for whatever reason or driving. Except bears. Can't get within 200 meters even with the wind on my side.
I made this ladder issue in the tutorial. Deer in front of a hunting tower and I thought, "this has to be part of the tutorial." Nope, it just spooked them and I had to track them down again
A key point about the render distance being 800 meters. This game seems to have a 1:1 distance ratio. Meaning that 1 meter is truly 1 meter. At 1:20 when he explains the distance you can see that 200 yards in this game is quite the distance unlike CotW where 200 yards feels like a stones throw away. This game will be slower and you will need to pace yourself more than CotW
@@patriciogantzer interchangeable. My point was its a 1 to 1 ratio making the distances considerably more realistic than CotW. Which in turn encourages players to get precise shots to minimize tracking.
@@unturned1529 but it is not the same, if I use meters it may only convert the distances but would not grant me any further render (800 yards are aprox 730m). So, I understand what you both say @BadKarma.- but you are not answering my question (or at least I can not follow you guys).
@@patriciogantzer seeing as the game is based majority in the European continent I'm willing to say that the true render is 800 meters. However with Flinter being from the US he probably said yards just due to the nature of how we communicate distance here. Either way, that's not the point I was making.
Just started playing Cotw just a few months ago and completely fell in love. Feels so good to start playing a relatively niche genre, where big games are few and far between, and then this comes out of nowhere! Love your calm style and been watching and learning through your videos and vods, and now its time for me to get in on the groundfloor on one of these games which is really exciting. One tip for finding your kills is to use a regular marker just before the shot then track the animal with the scope as far as you can and then use a tracker marker at the last place you see the animal. That way you can start tracking at the last place you saw it and if you cant find any tracks there then you can go back to the shot location and track from there.
In the encyclopedia each animal's life cycle (drinking zone/eating zone/etc) times are listed. I don't know if it guarantees anything but at least the game is telling you to for instance look for whitetail at drink zones around 9:00 and 22:00
I’d recommend focusing on low scoring adult/mature animals first to hopefully bring up the average fitness level of an area, eventually resulting in higher scoring animals. You can also read the in-game encyclopaedia, it’s straight to the point with how certain features like fitness and ratios affect the game.
I've been loving this game man. Seriously if the devs support it properly over the next few years then I has potention to be as amazing as cotw has been for us all.

i just downed a 4 star moose and went to take a picture in photo mode, and as i panned my camera over the moose it seemed to have just disappeared and fell through that map making it unclaimable. definitely an issue that needs to be looked at
This happen to me too. Killed a doe and saw her drop only 70yds away. went over to claim to the body and it was just gone. Vanished. Big pool of blood, even marked the body where it died. No trail leading anywhere. It only took 2 steps and died. So I know it didn't take off. Then in seconds later after looking around, the blood was gone where I took the original shot. It was so odd.
A couple tips I have found with tracking; always walk or better yet crouch. More important, stop moving at regular intervals. If it seems like it has been a minute or two, pause a bit and listen. Even after you have Hunter's Sense when moving, it is still a great way to keep from spooking game. Stay in the shadows if you can and make very short moves while crouching as you get under 100 yds. If they get alerted, freeze until they are calm. Play the long game and be patient. Not every hunt will be successful, particularly if you are looking to take only high % shots.
If you stop regularly you can see if the animal is looking at you. If it is wait until it goes back to its business eating or playing before you take your shot x
After tracking multiple animals for the longest time I was getting irritated until I realized the hunter sense works when you stop. It’s gonna be nice when it stays available while active I didn’t know that was a thing . Good video
I've been waiting for a hunting game that's paced like this one since cotw came out. Don't get me wrong, I have hundreds of hours in cotw. But I never felt satisfied so to speak, until last night when I bought way of the hunter. For the first Time in what seems like over a decade, a hunting game brought me back to my childhood. I was skeptical at first but I'm a believer now lol. Way of the hunter is gonna be huge given time.
Also, you can use your hunter sense while walking at the start, you just have to use the "slow" mode walking where you press control? or click right stick ans walk really slowly. This allows hunter sense to work.
Idk if it’s been said but if you’re having a hard time finding the blood splatters you can use photo mode to get a drone view makes finding your kill way easier, or use photo mode to see over a hill or behind trees or in bush, it kinda ruins the “experience” but if you need it it’s there.
Just had a road kill fox, could still sell I for 12. On when you press and hold RB on console sp assuming X on PC you can place multiple blue markers as the animal is running
A personal thing that id like your opinion on is the idea of purchasing personal hunting land, being able to buy 1 of 3-4 preset hunting lands allowing you to put out cameras, feeders, ECT. I like the idea of being able to lease this land out to other players in a way, that would be hard to manage i believe but I like the sound of it at least. Either being an add on or a game all of its own, would be nice. love to hear what you think about it!
Something I found out literally by accident...this game is so realistic that even roadkill is possible! Not really a "tip" but it sure was interesting!
Here is what I have notice for how the sell price for animals are calculated, for game like deer they sell for roughly 1.48 credits per pound. On big game like moose, it seems to be 1.16 per pound. Waterfowl seem to be roughly 4.22 per pound.
I have no intentions of buying this game in the foreseeable future (Old-Gen console struggs) but I am watching this as soon as it drops, and taking notes!

Man I highly recommend using pc part picker to build you a pc. It mostly list parts that are compatible. It will tell you if it's unsure about certain parts. Then just buy 1 part at a time. Use youtube to learn how to assemble it, it's really not hard. That what I did and my $1000 pc is still going almost 10 years later with what has to be close to 100k hours on it. I did have a graphics cards go out once.. but was a easy fix beings I know how to build a pc now. 😉

i would love to see a spotting scope come to the game. it'll be awesome to scout different area's before you get permission to hunt them. something i think would be very cool.

People have to accept the fact that in most hunting games(the good ones) the game rewards patience. Aka crouch walking instead of walking, crawling instead of slow walking towards animal Etc. Always remember these games reward patience
I booted up the game today and could not find a way to rebind keys on PC. Does anybody know if it is somewhere I may have missed? The default layout feels very awkward to me and I cant even check the overview of keybinds without going through the encyclopedia (except controller, which I dont have. Not a console peasant). The scope field of view isn’t determined by lens quality as much as he says it’s more determined by the lens size. The lower quality been a 40mm and the higher quality been 50mm. This gives the bigger field of view through the scope
Ranger Difficulty is so much better, it gives more coins for lesser scoring animals and it just feels so much more rewarding! Good to see you’re enjoying the game man!! God bless!
Can you hunt tier1 animals with a tier 2,3,4,5,or 6 rifle ethically or is it like cotw where you need to match them up? I know cotw usually covers a range of classes with most rifles. Just trying to figure out how it works in this game.
you can shoot with higher joule calibers over longer distance than 'ethical' wise, because the energy will go down the further you shoot. on the shooting range you can see the expected impact energy in your screen per distance
Awesome video! However, you don't need access to the computer to call in the Jeep. You can go to the "P" Parking sign where there's a parking lot and call the Jeep right there. 😊
Regarding the gun, i would not rush the 7mm. The 243 is very similar up to 150 m and progressively becomes better than the 7mm as distances increase. I checked on the hunting range and the energy (the relevant measure of efficiency of the gun/ammo) readings support this idea. I personally did get the 7 mm, but started reading about how worse it is vs 243 compared to RL. So i went and checked. The Steyr 243 description is fixed at launch and is supposed to be more precise than the Remington. Still, at the start of the game, maybe spend your money on a decent scope (i went with the 14x first as i was missing a lot) and callers.
I'm out of town and won't be able to play until late tonight (life of a trucker/gamer) but I can't wait. I will be very disappointed if the devs don't had other things to the game like bows and not just crossbows but longbows and recurves and compounds would be nice and it would be nice to have a few hang on tree stands or even a blinds but hopefully they do it right with blinds and not allow plays to just pitch it in the middle of a wide open field but have it place it back in the brush to help break it up a little (sorry but is a pet peeve IRL). A tip I'd like to share is instead of *just* using X to place a marker when you hit an animal. First, place the marker with X. Then, open your map and place a 'tracking marker'. This will prevent losing your track if you press X again. The Tracking markers have to be removed manually in the map screen from what I can tell? Helps me out as someone who will accidentally press the wrong button.

I'm super stoked for this game. Really excited that the kenetic energy aspect of killing the game animal and the fat that it changes with range... Imo it's far more realistic and immersive. It's not based off of some tier system of the guns and thier associated caliber but actual cartridge performance.
the game is so realistic except one thing i've noticed. Whenever you aim a gun or put a caller to your mouth, its so fast. Like they have these cool slow realistic animations of pulling out your gun but when you aim it ruins it all.
I have this on the PS5 and there’s all sorts of graphical rendering issues. Bushes/grasses glitching in and out of existence. Hillsides in the distance populating animals in after I’ve already zoomed in with binoculars. Then when those animals move, they’re like static pictures of animals. It ruins the experience for me
Update on this, I’ve found if I play it longer than a couple hours I get a headache from all the textures glitching in and out paired with the grittiness of the camera settings. It’s not super fluid
Thanks for the tracking tips. It’s killing me. I’m spending sooo much time trying to find the animal I should. Hopefully I get the hang of it and it doesn’t take as long to find each animal.
Use the photo mode to help find the area and also you can lower the foliage specs and your animal shows up easier....just have to change them back for game play
Thanks for the tips very helpful.... The game still has some issues I believe... I see there is a console control layout but is there a keyboard layout of what keys do what for PC? Is there a noise indicator of how noisy I am being moving around or how well the brush is hiding me? I've had several good chest shots and never finding the animal. People will become very frustrated putting all the time into tracking animals shooting them and then not finding them.. and lastly, the game has no directions per se on how to play what is the best way to do what... That's all just some things do need fixed.. thank you sir for the tips
You can just press on the "P" sign and choose your jeep. Don't need a PC. Also, tagging after shots is smart, but utilizing photo mode to find the blood is even smarter. 😉
Something I'm trying and still in the middle of it cuz I can see it's going to take a while. I notice as I was walking along the road it's lighting up the area around the road on the map as I was going somewhere and it was taking forever walking. So I said well let me try the Jeep and it does the same thing. So instead of having to walk all over the place to see what's going on in that area, I'm just driving a Jeep around lighting up all the roads on the map first and it's a big map. I'll stop at a cliff sometimes and walk over and they'll be animals down at the river I can shoot at. But it keeps the roads highlighted all over the map and there's some interesting stuff on the map. I can stop at a lodge and it will highlight so I can fast travel from one to another later. Also if I saw some animals and I could stop the Jeep real quick and spot one through the binoculars and it would show me the specie and mark that on the map. One time as I was driving along a bunch of deer ran across right in front of me and I hit the brakes until I remember I believe you can actually run them over with the Jeep so I started to chase them through the woods and I ran into a tree and that pretty much messed the Jeep up plus they're too fast anyway. LOL but I'm going to finish all the roads first see what happens later. I know I'm spooking them but by the time I'm done they will probably have come back in the areas I drove through long time ago. If they're far enough away they don't spook either and you can stop and try and stalk them. It's just a thought..
How can one restart a game?.. is it possible?.. i didnt find where as i do in other games. I run this game on PS5. Hasnt tried so much this game but the little i tried my impression is that its a exiting and great game.
How the heck do you tell time in the game? Needing to know when to go to need zones would mean you'd have to know what time it is. I have not found a clock anywhere other than when you're going to sleep.
I am confused about something, maybe you can help me to understand. Gray Wolf is tier 5, I shot two of them with a Remington 783 (.243) which is for tier 5 animals, and got lowest Hunt Rating, and the meat was almost all ruined, like it was overpowered. Shots were between 50 - 100 meters. Do you know why?
I don't know if anyone noticed at all but the 22 LR is a tier 2 rifle but u can still shoot tier 1 class animals. Plz let them know that it should be changed.
Hope they fix that Steyr bug firing the wrong caliber, and the wind bug that locks to your save game if it happens (where the wind gets extremely loud and won't go away, even with restarts of the game etc).
If the animals are overlaping and you happen to shoot it with a higher cal. then suggested, can you actually penetrate the first animal and still hit the second animal behind it?
Does anyone know how multi-player work is it like call of the wild where if you join or make one you use your map or others. Or is it just a random map. Just so I don't mess people maps up or careful who I let in mine.
I wish they would make the animal signs clearer in the hunter sense, it's simply frustrating to stalk an animal for 25 minutes and having to spend another 30 minutes combing the area because I can't see the blood trail anymore.
In Multiplayer mode, only the host of the server can claim their kills. Those that join the server, can still kill but won’t be able to claim anything. Hopefully the next update fix this issue.
For me, it doesn't seem to matter how far away I am. As soon as I can see the animals, they are already running from me. Even if I was only walking, and from as far away as 500 meters.. The only way I seem to be able to sneak up close enough to get a shot is if I crouch everywhere I go. Which is really frustrating since it takes me 5 hours just to find and take down one deer. And especially when the sell values are insanely low.. I already have about 40 hours into this game, and I'm still working with the weapons I got during the tutorial with the exception of one slightly better scope. And that was only because of the money I earned from completing missions. I love the realism of this game, but I think they may have gone a little overboard with it... I'm not finding it that much fun to play a hunting game where I have hours and hours and hours that I'm not able to find and take down anything.. It's more like I'm just playing a "walk around in the woods" simulator...
I followed a blood trail for a half an hour real time, then all the blood disappeared, even my previous marks. Is this a big or will blood go away after a set time?

Also dont use the tower if deer are near by. They spook 100% the second you climb the ladder. Even if you successfully sneak up on them without even alerting them, the second you climb that ladder it is the same as standing and walking around by them.
You’re correct about spooking deer while climbing , but after 5 minutes of waiting in the tower I had two deer at the bottom of the ladder. Literally touching the ladder. The towers are more of a waiting game.
That photo mode thing is crazy. Never thought u could use it like that.
Also I never had a problem climbing ladders when any animal is close. The only time I spook them is when I'm sprinting for whatever reason or driving.
Except bears. Can't get within 200 meters even with the wind on my side.

I made this ladder issue in the tutorial. Deer in front of a hunting tower and I thought, "this has to be part of the tutorial." Nope, it just spooked them and I had to track them down again
A key point about the render distance being 800 meters. This game seems to have a 1:1 distance ratio. Meaning that 1 meter is truly 1 meter. At 1:20 when he explains the distance you can see that 200 yards in this game is quite the distance unlike CotW where 200 yards feels like a stones throw away. This game will be slower and you will need to pace yourself more than CotW

@@patriciogantzer interchangeable. My point was its a 1 to 1 ratio making the distances considerably more realistic than CotW. Which in turn encourages players to get precise shots to minimize tracking.
@@unturned1529 but it is not the same, if I use meters it may only convert the distances but would not grant me any further render (800 yards are aprox 730m). So, I understand what you both say @BadKarma.- but you are not answering my question (or at least I can not follow you guys).
@@patriciogantzer seeing as the game is based majority in the European continent I'm willing to say that the true render is 800 meters. However with Flinter being from the US he probably said yards just due to the nature of how we communicate distance here. Either way, that's not the point I was making.
Just started playing Cotw just a few months ago and completely fell in love. Feels so good to start playing a relatively niche genre, where big games are few and far between, and then this comes out of nowhere! Love your calm style and been watching and learning through your videos and vods, and now its time for me to get in on the groundfloor on one of these games which is really exciting. @AustinHalo at first, yeah. But once u learn how to approach the different animals, its fine. Then again, some sessions i don't see anything for a long time either, part of the hunting experience hah
One tip for finding your kills is to use a regular marker just before the shot then track the animal with the scope as far as you can and then use a tracker marker at the last place you see the animal. That way you can start tracking at the last place you saw it and if you cant find any tracks there then you can go back to the shot location and track from there.
In the encyclopedia each animal's life cycle (drinking zone/eating zone/etc) times are listed.
I don't know if it guarantees anything but at least the game is telling you to for instance look for whitetail at drink zones around 9:00 and 22:00

I didnt bother to look in there but now im going to. Was getting frustrated that I couldnt find any animals at the need zones ever.
I’d recommend focusing on low scoring adult/mature animals first to hopefully bring up the average fitness level of an area, eventually resulting in higher scoring animals.
You can also read the in-game encyclopaedia, it’s straight to the point with how certain features like fitness and ratios affect the game.

I found that if you hold the trigger when you shoot, you can stop the reload animation and can watch the animal

i just downed a 4 star moose and went to take a picture in photo mode, and as i panned my camera over the moose it seemed to have just disappeared and fell through that map making it unclaimable. definitely an issue that needs to be looked at
This happen to me too. Killed a doe and saw her drop only 70yds away. went over to claim to the body and it was just gone. Vanished. Big pool of blood, even marked the body where it died. No trail leading anywhere. It only took 2 steps and died. So I know it didn't take off. Then in seconds later after looking around, the blood was gone where I took the original shot. It was so odd.
A couple tips I have found with tracking; always walk or better yet crouch. More important, stop moving at regular intervals. If it seems like it has been a minute or two, pause a bit and listen. Even after you have Hunter's Sense when moving, it is still a great way to keep from spooking game. Stay in the shadows if you can and make very short moves while crouching as you get under 100 yds. If they get alerted, freeze until they are calm. Play the long game and be patient. Not every hunt will be successful, particularly if you are looking to take only high % shots.
If you stop regularly you can see if the animal is looking at you. If it is wait until it goes back to its business eating or playing before you take your shot x
After tracking multiple animals for the longest time I was getting irritated until I realized the hunter sense works when you stop. It’s gonna be nice when it stays available while active I didn’t know that was a thing . Good video

I've been waiting for a hunting game that's paced like this one since cotw came out. Don't get me wrong, I have hundreds of hours in cotw. But I never felt satisfied so to speak, until last night when I bought way of the hunter. For the first Time in what seems like over a decade, a hunting game brought me back to my childhood. I was skeptical at first but I'm a believer now lol. Way of the hunter is gonna be huge given time.
Also, you can use your hunter sense while walking at the start, you just have to use the "slow" mode walking where you press control? or click right stick ans walk really slowly. This allows hunter sense to work.
Idk if it’s been said but if you’re having a hard time finding the blood splatters you can use photo mode to get a drone view makes finding your kill way easier, or use photo mode to see over a hill or behind trees or in bush, it kinda ruins the “experience” but if you need it it’s there.
Thank goodness, something to do while waiting out these last few painful hours before release.

Just had a road kill fox, could still sell I for 12. On when you press and hold RB on console sp assuming X on PC you can place multiple blue markers as the animal is running
A personal thing that id like your opinion on is the idea of purchasing personal hunting land, being able to buy 1 of 3-4 preset hunting lands allowing you to put out cameras, feeders, ECT. I like the idea of being able to lease this land out to other players in a way, that would be hard to manage i believe but I like the sound of it at least. Either being an add on or a game all of its own, would be nice. love to hear what you think about it!
Something I found out literally by accident...this game is so realistic that even roadkill is possible! Not really a "tip" but it sure was interesting!
Here is what I have notice for how the sell price for animals are calculated, for game like deer they sell for roughly 1.48 credits per pound. On big game like moose, it seems to be 1.16 per pound. Waterfowl seem to be roughly 4.22 per pound.
I have no intentions of buying this game in the foreseeable future (Old-Gen console struggs) but I am watching this as soon as it drops, and taking notes!
Alot of ppl still play on old Gen like my self don't really care about new game hunter always gonna be #1 put to much time into hunter don't wanna ditch it for this garbage game

Man I highly recommend using pc part picker to build you a pc. It mostly list parts that are compatible. It will tell you if it's unsure about certain parts. Then just buy 1 part at a time. Use youtube to learn how to assemble it, it's really not hard. That what I did and my $1000 pc is still going almost 10 years later with what has to be close to 100k hours on it. I did have a graphics cards go out once.. but was a easy fix beings I know how to build a pc now. 😉

People have to accept the fact that in most hunting games(the good ones) the game rewards patience. Aka crouch walking instead of walking, crawling instead of slow walking towards animal Etc. Always remember these games reward patience
I booted up the game today and could not find a way to rebind keys on PC. Does anybody know if it is somewhere I may have missed? The default layout feels very awkward to me and I cant even check the overview of keybinds without going through the encyclopedia (except controller, which I dont have. Not a console peasant). I definitely like way of the hunter especially since the remington 1903 is in the game my grandfather taught me to shoot on that rifle.
The scope field of view isn’t determined by lens quality as much as he says it’s more determined by the lens size. The lower quality been a 40mm and the higher quality been 50mm. This gives the bigger field of view through the scope

Can you hunt tier1 animals with a tier 2,3,4,5,or 6 rifle ethically or is it like cotw where you need to match them up? I know cotw usually covers a range of classes with most rifles. Just trying to figure out how it works in this game.
You can but more powerful weapon means more wasted meat so less pay

you can shoot with higher joule calibers over longer distance than 'ethical' wise, because the energy will go down the further you shoot. on the shooting range you can see the expected impact energy in your screen per distance
As soon as I shoot an animal I press X while looking through the scope that leaves a marker wherever the scope is pointed. Helps to find blood trails!

Regarding the gun, i would not rush the 7mm. The 243 is very similar up to 150 m and progressively becomes better than the 7mm as distances increase. I checked on the hunting range and the energy (the relevant measure of efficiency of the gun/ammo) readings support this idea. I personally did get the 7 mm, but started reading about how worse it is vs 243 compared to RL. So i went and checked.
The Steyr 243 description is fixed at launch and is supposed to be more precise than the Remington. Still, at the start of the game, maybe spend your money on a decent scope (i went with the 14x first as i was missing a lot) and callers.
You can also call in the jeep by going up to the P sign where the jeep sits and change the jeep
I'm out of town and won't be able to play until late tonight (life of a trucker/gamer) but I can't wait.
I will be very disappointed if the devs don't had other things to the game like bows and not just crossbows but longbows and recurves and compounds would be nice and it would be nice to have a few hang on tree stands or even a blinds but hopefully they do it right with blinds and not allow plays to just pitch it in the middle of a wide open field but have it place it back in the brush to help break it up a little (sorry but is a pet peeve IRL).

A tip I'd like to share is instead of *just* using X to place a marker when you hit an animal. First, place the marker with X. Then, open your map and place a 'tracking marker'. This will prevent losing your track if you press X again. The Tracking markers have to be removed manually in the map screen from what I can tell?
Helps me out as someone who will accidentally press the wrong button.

I'm super stoked for this game. Really excited that the kenetic energy aspect of killing the game animal and the fat that it changes with range... Imo it's far more realistic and immersive. It's not based off of some tier system of the guns and thier associated caliber but actual cartridge performance.
the game is so realistic except one thing i've noticed. Whenever you aim a gun or put a caller to your mouth, its so fast. Like they have these cool slow realistic animations of pulling out your gun but when you aim it ruins it all.

Tracking is soooo hard! Love it!
I have this on the PS5 and there’s all sorts of graphical rendering issues. Bushes/grasses glitching in and out of existence. Hillsides in the distance populating animals in after I’ve already zoomed in with binoculars. Then when those animals move, they’re like static pictures of animals. It ruins the experience for me
Update on this, I’ve found if I play it longer than a couple hours I get a headache from all the textures glitching in and out paired with the grittiness of the camera settings. It’s not super fluid
I notice all you shots on on the cross air point if I put the animals on my cross air the bullet will go 2 ft above them ???? What am I doing wrong

Thanks for the tracking tips. It’s killing me. I’m spending sooo much time trying to find the animal I should. Hopefully I get the hang of it and it doesn’t take as long to find each animal.
There's a bug at least on consoles ,literally the blood tracks vanish in front of your eyes and the carcass aswell. Puff. Bad one.
Use the photo mode to help find the area and also you can lower the foliage specs and your animal shows up easier....just have to change them back for game play
I have tracked a lot of things, and tracks just vanish, and do not lead to anything.

You don't have to go to the computer to reset or spawn your jeep, just use the P sign where the jeep appears.
Really wish they would allow you to fast travel to your jeep.

Thanks for the tips very helpful.... The game still has some issues I believe... I see there is a console control layout but is there a keyboard layout of what keys do what for PC? Is there a noise indicator of how noisy I am being moving around or how well the brush is hiding me? I've had several good chest shots and never finding the animal. People will become very frustrated putting all the time into tracking animals shooting them and then not finding them.. and lastly, the game has no directions per se on how to play what is the best way to do what... That's all just some things do need fixed.. thank you sir for the tips

You can just press on the "P" sign and choose your jeep. Don't need a PC. Also, tagging after shots is smart, but utilizing photo mode to find the blood is even smarter. 😉
Something I'm trying and still in the middle of it cuz I can see it's going to take a while. I notice as I was walking along the road it's lighting up the area around the road on the map as I was going somewhere and it was taking forever walking. So I said well let me try the Jeep and it does the same thing. So instead of having to walk all over the place to see what's going on in that area, I'm just driving a Jeep around lighting up all the roads on the map first and it's a big map. I'll stop at a cliff sometimes and walk over and they'll be animals down at the river I can shoot at. But it keeps the roads highlighted all over the map and there's some interesting stuff on the map. I can stop at a lodge and it will highlight so I can fast travel from one to another later. Also if I saw some animals and I could stop the Jeep real quick and spot one through the binoculars and it would show me the specie and mark that on the map. One time as I was driving along a bunch of deer ran across right in front of me and I hit the brakes until I remember I believe you can actually run them over with the Jeep so I started to chase them through the woods and I ran into a tree and that pretty much messed the Jeep up plus they're too fast anyway. LOL but I'm going to finish all the roads first see what happens later. I know I'm spooking them but by the time I'm done they will probably have come back in the areas I drove through long time ago. If they're far enough away they don't spook either and you can stop and try and stalk them. It's just a thought..

How the heck do you tell time in the game? Needing to know when to go to need zones would mean you'd have to know what time it is. I have not found a clock anywhere other than when you're going to sleep.

I am confused about something, maybe you can help me to understand. Gray Wolf is tier 5, I shot two of them with a Remington 783 (.243) which is for tier 5 animals, and got lowest Hunt Rating, and the meat was almost all ruined, like it was overpowered. Shots were between 50 - 100 meters. Do you know why?

I don't know if anyone noticed at all but the 22 LR is a tier 2 rifle but u can still shoot tier 1 class animals. Plz let them know that it should be changed.
Hope they fix that Steyr bug firing the wrong caliber, and the wind bug that locks to your save game if it happens (where the wind gets extremely loud and won't go away, even with restarts of the game etc).

You can't tag, but if you have hunter sense on it'll show you most of the stuff that COTW tagging does.

If the animals are overlaping and you happen to shoot it with a higher cal. then suggested, can you actually penetrate the first animal and still hit the second animal behind it?
yes, the ballistics are actually accurate
so when an animal dies of old age will you find it dead on your map or will it just disappear

I wish they would make the animal signs clearer in the hunter sense, it's simply frustrating to stalk an animal for 25 minutes and having to spend another 30 minutes combing the area because I can't see the blood trail anymore.

In Multiplayer mode, only the host of the server can claim their kills. Those that join the server, can still kill but won’t be able to claim anything. Hopefully the next update fix this issue.
For me, it doesn't seem to matter how far away I am. As soon as I can see the animals, they are already running from me. Even if I was only walking, and from as far away as 500 meters.. The only way I seem to be able to sneak up close enough to get a shot is if I crouch everywhere I go. Which is really frustrating since it takes me 5 hours just to find and take down one deer. And especially when the sell values are insanely low.. I already have about 40 hours into this game, and I'm still working with the weapons I got during the tutorial with the exception of one slightly better scope. And that was only because of the money I earned from completing missions. I love the realism of this game, but I think they may have gone a little overboard with it... I'm not finding it that much fun to play a hunting game where I have hours and hours and hours that I'm not able to find and take down anything.. It's more like I'm just playing a "walk around in the woods" simulator...
