After this show, Tuna+Katner continued on to Portland, Oregon, where I saw them play at a venue called the Starry Night. The Airplane's original singer, Signe Anderson, who lived in Portland, joined them onstage for a few songs.
That is waaay cool,. Signe was as good a singer as Grace and "Takes Off" (1966) was a great album. Cuts like Tobacco Road, Chauffeur Blues, Let's Get Together .... (Marty was always the heart of J.A.) Congrats to J.A.'s new Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in July 2024. Factoid -- Casady and Kaukonen met in high school in Washington, DC. where they had a band called The Triumphs. Kaukonen moved to S.F. and played as a solo act in coffee houses and accompanied Janis Joplin on acoustic guitar on the 1964 recording known as "The Typewriter Tapes" because of the obtrusive sound of Kaukonen's first wife, Margareta, typing in the background.
Love the song, love the band, yet anytime one of the true goddesses of rock is on the stage I gotta give it a thumbs up!! RIP: Paul Kantner, Marty Balin, Spencer Dryden and Papa John Creach.
Mitico brano dei Jefferson ovviamente eseguito da loro due diventa stellare stiamo parlando di uno dei migliori chitarristi di sempre norma e di uno dei bassisti che insieme a jach Bruce e il può grande della storia del roock
Grace was a crap singer, especially live ... but what a great band. and later Hot Tuna even better. Crown of Creation their LP best I think ... Share a little joke, up there, Marty
Beautiful version! I miss the JA a lot. Love Hot Tuna as well
JackCassady in his own universe, so neat to see such devotion to music

This is just so good.
It's important to be able to respect your own work - even afterwards.
Oh', my...
How sweet was that?!

As well as Signe Anderson, Skip Spence and Joey Covington.

@@mikeivey8169or 1969. Seems like Volunteers album was out when I graduated from high school in 1969.
Wonderful as both performance and instruction - thank you!
Is that Gracie? The song is one of the best airplane songs! From my city of lights!
God's music...

great
Fcukin' A !
Paul's voice adds so much, blends so perfect, Jorma's vocals too thin without him
It’s just a harmony, kid. Don’t get too excited.
This was what set the stage for the Airplane reunion the following year. The only one missing was Marty.
R.I.P. Marty
yea but it's too bad the reunion album sucked!
@@DavidKolbSantosh Yup. But the tour wound up being successful.
