Great visualisation of learning in real time. Always chances to put things right, or develop ways to reduce liklihood of it occurring again. Knowledge for one and all. 👏
Almost everyone that's ever attempted a repair on an old computer or console has made that mistake at least once. 😂 I also learned something new about the ZX Spectrum composite mod. Something for me to remember when I finally get to my (albeit smaller) pile of Speccies to repair.
The gloves give the video a nice dystopian vibe. You should keep wearing them even when it gets warm again :-) Anyway, I like your channel and its humour. Happy birthday and Happy New Year!
Haha! Maybe I should do episodes where I go scavenging for parts in a post apocalyptic wasteland. Fighting off mutants in my search for replacement capacitors or 8-bit CPU's Thank you for the birthday wish! Happy new year to you!
Silly question. Have you considered relocating the keyboard flat connectors from the PCB to the keyboard housing and creating a proper flat cable using pin headers and good wires? It could make the keyboard membrane last longer.
In another repair I found a vintage repair that did pretty much exactly that. It's a lot of hassle though and membranes are not too expensive now. Maybe when they start running out that will be the way to go!
Nice when it's a simple fault ! Id have probably socketed the CPU in this case, so the owner can easily swap it out if he decides he wants expansions to work
I used to heat it, but the current cost of energy means I cant really justify it. Although I did make myself really ill when recording this video, so if it gets that cold again I think I might just have to break out a little heater.
I see you're using the eraser for the edge contacts. Now I said before the scotch brite is too abrasive for gold, but apparently 18 carat gold does not rub off as easily with the red sponge as I remember (maybe that was a purer form of gold, or I just rubbed way too hard, I don't know) and I cleaned my VIC-20 edge contacts to a near shine. And no gold on the sponge as far as I could see. Key is not to rub too hard and to start very gently. Did you get scotch brite yet to try yourself? 😁
They were sold out of it when I went shopping! I will keep trying. Also there will be a little bit of lag between me buying it an you seeing it on the channel 😂

I definitely didn't coin the term :-) I forgot where I borrowed it from -- maybe Jan Beta?
We're all in the business of recycling things. I'm sure Jan wont mind 😄
Beginning a long repair series by "not repairing something" is a baller move. :D
I could just not make the other 4 episodes. 😉 Nobody would mind!
Agreed 100% on your comment about Retroleum. I have purchased many..many spares from him. Console5 is the store of choice for us in the USA.
Console5 is a store I really wish was local to me. They almost always have what I want. Just the international postage always kills the value.
Every time I watch you freezing to death doing these incredible repairs, I'm thinking "get a damn space heater man!" 😂
Haha! It's all an act and special effects to drum up sympathy clicks 🤣
I guess it worked then 😂
Moo! It's the cold that made the pump haunted. Or something. Good job!
I'll carry out an exorcism later. Banish those flux fumes.
@@MoreFunMakingIt the power of flux compels you...
Thanks, I look forward to the next episode of the Sinclair Sagas
Cheers mate! Number 2 is a good one, and 3 is shaping up good too!
Working with heated gloves, that's dedication to the cause.
It was so cold! Stupidly made myself quite ill.
@@MoreFunMakingIt Oh no, that is too much dedication. It's hard to resist a big pile of broken specturms.

Always here if you need any help mate!
Even if you didn't fix it, it was still a fun video to enjoy!
Cheers Mike! I had fun!
Well done and fun! Thanks for sharing

Great video, that was a fun watch!
Thanks Mike! I was worried some would be grumpy about the lack of an actual repair

Thanks for making me feel better mate! 😆

As far as the gold is concerned, is it 14 or 18 carat gold on the contacts? I can't remember.
On a Sinclair machine? Sir Clive would spin in his grave! No, these are plain tinned copper contacts.
@@MoreFunMakingIt I meant more in the general sense, if contacts are gold plated, is it 14 or 18 carat...

The problem with sinclair computers is they all have issues.
Beebs also have issues.
My son used to say "eggshoes" instead of issues when he was little. That's all I hear for that word now 😂
