You video and knowledge was incredibly helpful. Yes, for a $10.99 part on Amazon I fixed the door on my dishwasher. Thank you for taking time to post this - much appreciated.
I kind of wish more things would break around here to make additional videos... but still glad most things keep functioning well. I had an ice machine fail on me at work and put that back together, but too few people are interested in a video for that. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for your video ! I heard a noise - and then my door dropped to the floor. I assumed it was related to a broken spring - but your video showed me the part I actually needed. I just received my OEM replacement parts today, and decided to fix it immediately. My LG dishwasher was made in 2007 (I think it was the first SS one to have hidden controls along the top) - and when I started to pull it part way out, I discovered that my model has metal panels covering the sides = I had to pull my dishwasher all the way out from under the cabinet in order to remove all of the screws (two on front and four down the back). Luckily, my water and drain hoses were still long enough - no removal needed (I did have to disconnect the three wire connections to the power cord). My very first diy appliance repair! The cord on the left side barely looked used - the right one was split into two pieces! I went ahead and replaced the left one anyway - I’ll keep the original one for a quick fix if it happens again sometime. While researching this issue, I discovered how much “hate” there appears to be out there for LG dishwashers. This was my fist issue with my LG dishwasher in almost 16 years (except for one small piece of plastic that broke in the bottom of the utensil basket - I just did a little wire fix for that). I’m about to renovate my kitchen - and am planning on keeping my LG dishwasher since it works well and has the hidden controls. Thanks again - you saved me some $$$!
Thank you, just had this happen today. I was noticing that the door was getting looser just didn't think that a nylon rope/string is being used. I also noticed the broken white rope on the side so ordered one. But watching your video tells me I don't need to worry about disconnecting all the connections, I have enough slack for all connections.
Yeah, as long as you have a bit of slack in your water, drain and power lines... you should be fine. There is usually a bit of slack anyways during install. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I just replaced a pump (model is only 7 years old and since we have two dishwashers in out kitchen, it surprised me that problems started happening so soon) but during the test run after pump replacement, I discovered some leaks. After checking the gasket along the bottom of the door, I found it to be pushed up about 2/3 on one side. Now I feel confident to unhook the tension rope on each side of the door and check out the gasket. I appreciate your video and hope that I can fix the gasket issue. My advice to NOT to buy LG products, because I also have issues with the double wall oven LG units after only 6 years.
The quality of many of these machines seems to have dropped over the years. We've had these appliances now for over 13 years and the tension cable is the only thing we've had to replace. Maybe it's luck of the draw.
Awesome. This is such an easy fix that anyone can do. I too was wondering if I just needed to replace this dishwasher before looking into a fix. I'm glad I found an easy solution. Thanks for watching.
Great fix. FEMALE QUESTION: Can you coat the new string in something to slow or prevent future fraying, like glue or paint or flex seal so you won't have to keep replacing the string?
Something like a 'hinge cable tension cord' which is a really long and convoluted way of describing it. Check your owners manual for the exact terminology
This is a very common problem with LG dishwashers, and it occurs even with relatively new machines. The springs are poorly made and break at the end hooks (poorly formed). Another low quality issue is their vinyl coated racks. They rust at various points where the pieces are welded together, indicating the welded steel parts were not properly prepped before the vinyl coating was applied. All three of mine have significant rust in only four years. They won't pay to replace them, and they want well over $200 per rack if you want to buy them. I'm choosing the better option, throw the LG in the trash and buy a Bosch.
Our LG has held up well. It's definitely not the best dishwasher out there, but fit our budget at the time. This easy fix was a way of squeezing a few more years out of it. Thanks for watching.
Not sure if these are interchangeable. For the cost, you could always order them and try out the new ones... as long as they have the same connectors on the ends. Your owners manual should have the exact part number for replacement
Seems like this is a persistent issue. I’ve read about this happening quite a bit. Would it be possible to replace that rope with some sort of a metal leader like he would use in fishing? Seems like it would be much more durable than a nylon string.
Even a steel braided cable would eventually break. Nylon is both flexible and tough and can handle the regular bending. Considering we've had the dishwasher for 10 years... this is a the only maintenance we've had to do... and it's easy to complete.
They do last for quite a while, but once one goes, the stress on the second one increases significantly. They were designed to be replaced. I am just glad they are so easy to change out.
Thank you, fixed my door in five minutes for five dollars from Amazon parts and your video.

Thank you so much for this. $15 rather than a $250 house call! Merry Christmas!
Yep, a cheap fix. Our replacement parts are still holding up well after a few years of use.
Fantastic. Much of the internet is a wasteland but people like you putting up videos like this go a long way to redeeming it. 👍

I had this problem, found your video, and I just fixed it myself. Took all of about 5 minutes! Thanks!
Yep. quick and easy to implement. It's quite satisfying that a 5 minute fix extends the life of this dishwasher. Keep on fixing things.
Thank you for your video! Never would have thought it would be sucha simple fix. Just replaced both sides

Sounds like you need to make a video yourself Donna! Thanks for watching.

You are awesome 👏👏👏 I’ll have to go buy my parts now. Thank You 🙏 🙏🙏
Enjoy! Our door is still doing great. Such an easy fix.
@@rockingcheers Happy New Year from Australia 🇦🇺 🎆
Thank you kind sir! Well documented. Just finished putting mine on my dishwasher (my first time) and was a breeze.
Happy Belated Thanksgiving 🦃😁👍
Always glad to help
This is exactly what I needed, thank you!
Glad I could help!
Great instructions, worked perfectly for this DIYer!
It took me a bit of time to figure it out, but an easy fix for sure. Thanks for watching.
You saved me hundreds. Thanks bud!! 🙏🏻

Thanks for sharing! Was a breeze to fix it
You're welcome. It seemed like it would be an easy task... so I had my girlfriend record it in a single take without rehearsal. Easy peasy!
AWESOME! You are a BOSS!
Thank you!
Anything to help!
THANK YOU!
I had the string just fail on me and I dread calling in a tech to fix it.
It's an easy enough task. Just find the parts on Amazon and pop them in yourself!
@@rockingcheers mines a week old and door dropping. Crazy.
Great fix. FEMALE QUESTION: Can you coat the new string in something to slow or prevent future fraying, like glue or paint or flex seal so you won't have to keep replacing the string?
Nylon is a very tough material. I wouldn't mess with it as any lubricant or glue might break down the material quicker.
“Female” question? A question is a just a question.
What is that string part called so I can order one? 🥰🥰🥰
Something like a 'hinge cable tension cord' which is a really long and convoluted way of describing it. Check your owners manual for the exact terminology
Thank you, you just saved me alot of troubleshooting and agrivation!✌
When popping out the dishwasher, it was pretty obvious what the issue was. Next was doing the research to find the right part!
THANKS ALOT - Maybe add Media Dishwasher to your TAGs also - It took quite a while for me to find something that was like mine, Thanks again
Great tip! There are so many dishwasher models out there with different ways of supporting the door.

Were the parts for this specific to your LG model, or are they interchangeable for LG dishwashers?

Have you had any issues with the increased tension due to a shorter cord?
After a few weeks it seemed like the door was back to factory condition. After a year of use now… still fantastic!
AWESOME VIDEO .... this is my identical dishwasher, exact same problem... shall I hunt down the parts over the counter local or best order online
Amazon was the easiest find for me.
@@rockingcheers ... need a part number i bet ... but gotta look first too in case i need springs
@@abelparga4492 part number is in the video description
@@rockingcheers ... oh?! ... I'll rewind. THANK YOU AMIGO
Who was the part supplier?
It appears there are a few different suppliers on Amazon. This package was branded as Upstart Components.
thank you sir!
You are very welcome!
Thanks
You're very welcome. Happy to help.
Mines a week old and doing this.
Sounds like you have a bigger issue than just the hinge cable tension cord. It might be a spring issue for you Larry.
Mind was broken on both side
They do last for quite a while, but once one goes, the stress on the second one increases significantly. They were designed to be replaced. I am just glad they are so easy to change out.
