Thx man. 422-10bit is good enough for sure! The rest is in the grade. And how you shoot it! After new years my contracts run out and i can get back to f3 videos!
Great video and thank you for the detailed information. I do have one question. You mention that after changing the settings you will be able to shoot in 50/60 fps progressive. Will that enable it to shoot 50/60fps in 720p or in 1080p? That is one area you were not very clear on. If it will shoot 60fps in 1080p that would be wonderful!

It will shoot 50/60-1080P this way. However it will shoot it at a higher iso so image quality will be slightly degraded so make sure to compensate by giving it the same extra exposure as the iso bump and take it down in post for best results.
This is perfect. Really helpful! I just picked up an F3 based off your videos. Im hoping it’s a 444 version as the owner didn’t know, but I doubt it. Either way, I have a couple of Ninja V’s that I’m hoping to record to, but I don’t have the SDI adapter. I was wonder if it would be possibly to use an SDI-to-HDMI converter to start with an SDI signal from the camera but then have it change over to HDMI for the ninja.

Hello. Thank you very much for your videos, they are great and I learn a lot to continue working with my "old lady" Sony PMW F3. Unfortunately I bought it when the CBK-RGB01 upgrade was very expensive and therefore I don't have the 4: 4: 4 option. If you know how to get someone at a reasonable price, let me know. Anyway my question is if there is a possibility to slow motion at 50p or 60p on a recorder like the old Athomos Samurai that only have one SDI input? And how to use the camera with the best resolution? better 1080 50 i and then convert it on the Athomos to 1080 25p or natively from the 1080 25p camera? I don't quite understand the pulldown. Could you explain it? Thank you very much from Spain.

Hello Eduardo. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to get the upgrade unless it was bought for It back then. But I would not be too sad about it. As long you got the Slog version. You have plenty. It seems you need to have a dual-link compatible recorder for that. Did you try it the way I did it in the video? I think the best option is to shoot it at 25P on camera. It's called a PSF signal (Progressive Segmented Frame) Its acts a lot like a 50i signal. But it is intended to be pieced together at the receiving end of the signal. It was invented because old tv/broadcast systems were relying on the interlaced format. It made it possible to start sending 25p on legacy systems basically.
Without the RGB upgrade the only option is to use a recorder that supports dual-link connections, basically two SDI cables. Unfortunately the Ninja seems to be not compatible with the F3s dual link. I did use the AJA SDI to HDMI converter with success but it makes the whole setup quite bulky. Eventually I bit the bullet and got a F3 with the RGB upgrade.

If you just want slog 25p than video mode and picture profile set to slog work fine. That way you also get the benefit of beeing able to shoot slog at a lower iso and switch easy to a different color profile if needed!
@ Interesting. How does that square with needing more light and therefore needing to push the db under certain situations? For example, I'd love to shoot SLOG at a club but they don't have much lighting. Is it okay to push the db to +3 or even +6 or should I ideally try and look for external lighting options?! Thanks :)

@@jamesblobo9947 Think of it this way. Needing more light and exposing the camera right is two different things. If you want a pretty image with lots of dark parts in it.
