That was actually quite good, thanks for that. I watched the finished product in the wedding vid and I was more than impressed. Very inovative, keep it up and thanks...ps, might have to steal some of your ideas :D
Mikey Mike, I know this video is a bit old, but I wanted to see how the straps and rubber feet have held up. I am getting ready to do this, and am a bit concerned that the straps might split where you put the rivet through them. I am thinking of folding the straps over and almost doubling up where the rivet goes through. Also, do you have a part number of the rubber feet? Thanks
DJ Mike, I know this video is a bit old, however it's was well put! Thanks for the insight for the base material. I found some cold-rolled steel plates pre-cut 18"x18" for $16.00 bucks. My project starts this weekend after my gigs.
thanks for all the help most people would just blow it off do you think i could put an o-clamp on one bracet and put the plate on the other bracet on a rain 56 or 64?
what kind of pins do you use to attach the base plate to the truss? Could you use screws and tack weld them in place or the screws being permantely attached would stick out to much.. thanks ?
i acctually got arond to designing a base plate that is a steel plate approx 60-70cm square and it has in each corner welded on a piece of square tube of a large size then i have some smaller square tube which slots in these little pieces that are welded on to the base plate i put a bolt through the whole lot and drop a shot bag on the end on each leg i did this cause im gonna have a truss rig which is 3m high and 4m wide and with 4 movin heads up top i needed the exra stabilty
what's the weight of these base plates? looks like very low weight... and low weight says low safety to me... my base plates have about 80kg.. that's about 176lbs..
i said i only designed it in antisipation for my new truss rig so i only got some sketches but in theroy it will be very stable but very adaptable so it can either just be truss uprights or the full rig and its the lightest option acctually the idea came from some whinch up stands which were 6 meters tall and theay had 4 huge legs which deployed to give stability and they could each hold 300kgs each thats approx 600-700 pounds each ! ill see if i can scan the sketches in and ill send them
@mikefx117 Wow thats great but heavy mine are 2x2 1/4 " Im not sure what the weight but I only put a 20 lbs Mover or lighter so the safety fastor is fine for me.. Although your would be better for tipping you have a higer chance of injury of your helpers DJ Mikey Mike
Hey Mike, I have a question. I want to make baseplates my own but i want to make truss totems from 2 meters high and on the top with a side bar 2 Movingheads. Now the problem is that the movingheads are 25KG each. Is it posible in this formation? ps I realy like your DIY Videos
not that i disagree with what you said, but i buy from musicians friend. they end up being cheaper becuz you dont have the tax or shipping on your order.
@directsound no offense meant! it's just because i'm looking myself for new options to mount some devices as well as my speakers! the problem is just that i use RCF 3003 Speakers with a weight of about 73lbs... if i put them on a single vertical truss there is a high chance to fall if anyone strike against them... that's why i need a very heavy base plate but i do still not dare to place is on a vertical truss higher than 5 feet... ideas are welcome =)
but agreat idea mm this will save me tones! some one wanted to charge me $300 AUD for one base plate which was 1cm thick and weighed 50kg thats way to heavy for my back as im only 14 and its only me and my dad moving all this gear so yea thanks mm

hey Mikey Mike...do you know which rubber feet you bought? I'm looking to make some bases myself.
do you still use your i-beam truss?
how much is a non air powered riviter and the sander tool you used?
You need to get Half cuplers and mount them to the plate to use with global truss
mm
not sure it was like in the swim suit area

mm

Yoy should use Rivits

Yes you could do that but it might look a bit wird but it would save you time if you needed to hang them
MM
I went to a metel shop nd had them cut to the size I needed
MM
thanks i hope it helped
MM
how can i get global truss on these plates?
@mikefx117 Wow thats great but heavy mine are 2x2 1/4 " Im not sure what the weight but I only put a 20 lbs Mover or lighter so the safety fastor is fine for me.. Although your would be better for tipping you have a higer chance of injury of your helpers
DJ Mikey Mike
IU think you can get away with wood and a 2x2 to 3x3 should do the trick
mm
