Managed to get hold of him, will hopfully have a look at some of his gameplay in the near future and see what hes up to, and then see if I've got anything that'll help him improve in the short term, seems like a cool guy.
Cyrax being referred to as a distraction does make sense, in the 3d era you couldnt just look at the combo list to see frame data, he probably just learnt from experience, I dont see how he could go out to get a specific region xbox to play a game but not know the plus/minus terminology but its very possible
I was part of the MKD euro scene back in 2004-2005 with MKDan, Jiggerman, DA clan, Gtrax but I dont remember this guy at all. Armageddon was released in the UK on PS2 though, Xbox was region locked as all games were then. I did the same using a USA Xbox then but it was not playable tbh, because we had only 2Mb max ADSL lines then and the netcode was trash as always.
As an OGer myself I'd love to see this guy get back into it. I got outta the mk scene when the 3d era hit with mk4, although i kept up with mk over the years, and i just got back into mk last year starting out with mkx for a few months then went to mk11 pretty much all this year. I like mk11 and I know it gets alot of hate but one of the reasons i like mk11 is bc it reminds me of how mk3 and umk3 played at the arcade which were my two favorite mk games. I will say the games are def alot diff than the Midway days so hes def in for a rude awakening. Just about everything was based on reaction back in those days. We had no frame data to study, in fact nobody even knew what it was back then anyways. Hes def gonna have to lab and at least get used to the frame data and how it works bc if you try just on reaction nowadays...well he wont be lasting very long but def pulling for him.
I think even with no experience, you can explain some simple concepts that’ll help anybody learn to play the game and beat others, it’s just a matter of practice & application of theory, we’ll see 👌🏾
@@AF0xyGrampa No doubt! Would love to see him get into it. If I was him I'd def be picking your brain as much as I could. Love your vids btw. You and sikander should start a podcast together. Y'all two are a trip especially when surrounded by all that beef sik likes to feast on! 🍿
This needs to happen, and we need vlogs from this guy where he training like rocky drinking 17 raw eggs per day and beating tf out of a dead frozen cow in a meat locker all while pressing a button on his controller and repeating “stop, don’t mash, im plus” over and over leading up to an official set date!! Make it happen #buffTakeda
I will one hundred percent contribute to this guy, I would love for this guy to beat sonic fox. Everyone loves an underdog story and I’m so tired of seeing him or ninja on the winners side
Dude yes we need more people from previous tournaments showing back up especially with mk1 bc imo mk1 has brought the best pieces from previous titles and made a masterpiece haha
Why do we say things like "too old" in video games. Mf axt like you gotta have athletic conditioning and be built like lebron james. Just say you got a full time job with wife and kids lol wtf
When he says he was ranked #1 in Deception, is he talking about the online leaderboards? Because I don’t think the leaderboards meant very much in the Midway/early NRS era. It used to just go by whoever had the most wins, not your overall win/loss record, and I’m pretty sure the matchmaking was completely random back then. I was ranked #3 in Injustice 1 and I was shit at the game.
Hello, my old friend. I happen to be one of the few remaining top players from this era still around and playing today. And... i dont know who this guy is... lol I wonder if anyone does tho. The community was a lot more tight-knit back then.
Hello. I’m an OG player (not like this younger guy whom you might call “old” lmao). I’ve played EVERY MK game since it was released. Here’s the reality of the situation. Mentally, I could still compete. But as you age, your reaction times diminish. I’m sure that with massive amounts of time, this guy could learn frame data, combo routes, applying pressure, etc. But he can’t undo all the years of not maintaining his reactions and doing what he can to mitigate the effects of aging. That’s just the simple truth.
Thing is, reactions arent what separates the good from the great, its strategy. Dragon who is an NRS EVO champion, has some very slow reactions, but because his gameplans were so solid, he could win. Theres definitely some really good older players out there in other games, it could be possible here too
Personal experience: I played up to MK3 and was never very good compared to competition. I say this to say, you can probably estimate my age (it starts with a 4, lol) I came back into MK11, 25 years later in 2021 (admittedly on Switch). I was not good, BUT I studied videos and started seeing how to approach the game. By the time MK11 ran its course, I’d likely beaten every player up thru the Elder God ranks, and while I wouldn’t say I’m amazing, the patience I’d gained, and patterns I was recognizing compared to when I started was so much higher than when I stepped into the game. And I know the Switch wasn’t as competitive as on Playstation, there were some players who were tough. Even watching current MK1, you can tell when players are good, versus not good but potentially getting away with a lot of braindead stuff. Definitely didn’t have the same reactions from my youth, but strategy-wise, i could definitely predict what most players wanted to do, and I’m guessing i was older than most of them.
I’m not going to brush this guy off because remember people did this to NinjaKilla and look at him now. People also trashed on the twins mainly Nicolas and he’s 2nd best in the world atm. Point is don’t underestimate people untill it’s over
Love vids like this. I'd love to invite you to Mortal Kombat Deception & Armageddon online on PS2. It's free & easy to join the fan server. Setup PS2 internet as usual all automatically, but manually set DNS to 45, 7, 228, 197. Save & exit and you're online again. Rankings work still and motor Kombat as well as arcade online. Cross play to PS2 from PC and Mac emulator users as well. It'd be awesome to see you and other top players maybe revisit a klassic MK that's still online.
He didn't say anything overtly negative about both players, though I feel like he was on that Sonic tip a lot ( no diddy) but there's also a saying...put your money where your mouth is. I doubt he'd be able to take these 2 on. On a second thought, he could be looking to grow his channel. $0.02 thoughts.

If he doesn't take you up on helping him. I wouldn't mind since I'm probably older than that guy...... Just my poor broke ahh needs Internet lol
I wanna see where this story arc goes
Hope it ends with Titan Onaga in a final expansion.
This is sick. I hope this storyline unfolds!
0:36 “it’s not Fate, no.”
Confirmed, video is worth watching 😂
Give him coaching and then instigate beef sets for him 😂
This is a badass video. I love the storyline here. I hope we see future updates.
The fact this guy is unironically showing off his Funkopops on stream shows he's not afraid of people taking the piss

You should coach him, would be a wholesome stream.
I hope this leads somewhere, love to see the old heads return to something they’re familiar with yet completely different as well.
i am so curious to see how he’d play man
Word coming straight out the 3d era? Im intrigued
If this dude went to an offline and made top 24 or better I’m going to be hyped out of my mind.
This old dog has a few tricks in 'em yet.

I would subscribe to Netflix just to watch this particular season of Foxy Grandpa content hell yeah. Coach that OG.
I’m eager to see where this guy goes good luck
There is a like button and a dislike button but no adequate button. Come on TH-cam
Damn, I started playing MK when I was 11, back in 92. Guess I'm old 🤣
I was 14 in 1992, so yeah, your old:)
I was 6 yrs old when og mk1 came out on snes and was hooked from then on. I miss the old arcade days of mk. Best period of the mk timeline IMO

Foxy never fails to leech off of any drop of beef
Just say as one grandpa to another
This brings up a question that is asked in every competitive sport: Are the best players today better than the best players from older generations?
ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!!ONE OF US!!ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!!

This man must be trained in the arts
man is cole young, the chosen one lmao

10 grab, id love to see foxy coach this man. Would be a great perspective to see

He smokes chat and then you bring some players from the tournaments. 💪
