I use heavy duty magazine holders for each child’s math and LA. Science and history are in their own holders since we do those as a group. I keep these on the Kallax shelf behind my chair so I can turn and grab one for individual work or to hand to my older girls who are independent. They also have a magazine folder full of independent work (file folder games, writing prompts, Evan Moor workbooks for spelling, etc that we keep on our rolling cart that they can grab on their own if their still waiting for their time with me.
For chores, we have three rotating “elf” chores (they like to pretend they house elves at Hogwarts). My kitchen helper empties the dishwasher, wipe down the kitchen island and help me put away the meals. The bathroom helper changes the hand towels daily, bath towels every three days and makes sure the kid bath is straightened up and wiped down nightly. The laundry helper can start easy loads of laundry (towels, whites, etc), switch the laundry to the dryer, separate everyone’s clean laundry into their own baskets and fold the towels.
I plan an overview of the year during the summer, including general times I want to take special field trips, but do more specific planning usually a week in advance.
Our nighttime routine needs some reshuffling now that our kids are older with activities that don’t finish until when we normally would be getting ready for bed a couple nights a week but generally we do a general clean up of the house/rooms after dinner, shower/bathe and get in pajamas, then do a read aloud together until 8. They get to read in their rooms until 8:30-9, depending on ages.
