Their wedding night was everything Lingyi - almost like a shrine. Whereas what Shiyi told Donqiang rings true: she doesn't seek his love and has no desire for his fame or power. She's an independent woman with her own thoughts and values. If he wants more than politeness from her, he has to earn it, and that's something he's never had to do before.

This episode really show why Marquis would fall for Shiyi when he didn’t with his previous wife and concubines. His first wife and him has a personality clash. They never see eye to eyes and she was too calculative. Lianfeng was obsessive, submissive and shallow. Wen is too money grubbing. Qian is not well read and educated and can’t hold meaningful conversation with him. Shiyi on the other hand bicker with him constantly, call him out his bias but never stepping the line. But most importantly, she understood him even when he say very little. And on big matter, they share the same thinking. Marquis actually crave for real affection, but he never felt sincerity with the others. He only feel like a tool for them to gain more footing in the household, so in return, he give them enough power befitting their position. With Shiyi, he finally get a clean slate, someone cute, clever and conversationally stimulating. He can’t help but fall for her. There’s no other way. She everything he needs and wanted.
AT as the Marquis said, when he opens the veil for their wedding night Shiyi was the only one who looks into his eyes with all the concubines and the previous wife. It is also funny that she opens her big eyes when the marquis tried to kiss her.😮😂😂😂😂
Loving this series, great acting from all the cast especially the ML& FL great scriptwriting. Loving the fact that Shiyi is independent minded and trying to find who murdered her mother and not bothered with the competition and jealousy from the others. She is smart and not interested in the Marquis, probably trying to find a way to leave him after finding the killer.😍💯👍👍

I'm watching this for the second time because just finished Because of Love and couldn't do without Wallace Chung for long depite the fact that along with him I have to put up with this disfunctional family again. Shiyi doesn't always show good judgement where her hubby is concerned but there is much to admire about this feisty, courageous woman. From the episodes so far you wouldn't think the Lord had a romantic bone in his body.
The Marquis is smart and sensible. He is a filial son, by visiting all the concubines but he knows how to test their motives as in previous episodes he heard the conversations of all the concubines, He is all ears.
I love Concubine Wen! Her scenes are always so funny and she’s so cute. I looked up the actress and can’t believe she’s already 38 years old. She really reminds me of the actress An Yue Xi. They look so much alike! Especially the eyes.
I think LingYi definitely has a thing for his new wife. On their wedding night, he probably did try to sleep with her to give her status, but this subsequent night seemed to be more about desire. He definitely thought she was cute during the bathtub scene, and I think she's always been memorable since their first conversation together. After all, even a year later, he remembered her boldness and sharp manner of speaking. So yeah, despite originally thinking his hand reaching for her was something done out of habit and half-asleep, I'm thinking more now that he was testing the waters. Why else would he send her to the couch if not out of passive-aggressive pique at being turned down again? LOL Love their banter in the carriage too. He's so use to just smarting off and having everyone (brother, concubines, wife) either immediately try to placate him or just get emotional. Not our girl Shiyi - she gives as good as she gets but in a calm manner that does not detract from what she says. Anyone else kinda creeped out by the fact that he slept with all of these women? Granted, there weren't that many compared to a modern man's conquests - just three (four if you toss in untouched Qiao). However, the fact that he impregnated all of them at some point and they all live under the same roof is just super weird.
Remember Marquis family only left two male and some of the brothers were death so in order to have big family, he has to marry several concubines to have a descendents so might be marry those concubines without love and bear kids for the reason to continue lineage, noticed that Marquis always wanted to look a wife with humble, kind value and thrifty values of a girl only his new wife has it.
They were both uncomfortable on their wedding night. When he tried to kiss her he knew that she was scared to death of what was to happen and being a gentleman he did not force her. By the second night he learned how innocent and unknowledgeable she is regarding marriage as demonstrated when she could not figure out how to undress him unlike Qiao. Shiyi is smart, sharp and already stood up for her stepson. She knows how to use her words eloquently to get her points across. He respects her honesty.
I agree that LinYi notices his new wife, she's unlike any other woman he's known. He is older and experienced and recognized that when he tried to kiss Shiyi she was afraid. He asks her in the morning if she he scared her and which she replied no. Also as he was getting out of bed he can again see how modest she is. Their second night was fun to watch and her fear is not there towards him. I actually think that when he reached out his hand at night it was on purpose because she was purposefully intending him to get into the hot bath water. You can notice his gentle smile at her behavior. Fate brought them together because they are both genuine good and deserve the purest love there can be between a husband and wife. I love it!

I understood the reasoning, but I would get so mad at the mother-in-law at times because she treated LingYi like a stud horse - constantly telling him about the need for more children and then trying to shove more concubines his way. Poor LingYi bore the sole responsibility of everything in his family from joining the military at a young age to marrying all these women he didn't want. Meanwhile his younger brother lived a carefree life and married the woman he loved. His mom didn't try forcing concubines on him either. Granted, that was more because of Dannyang's father and her family's backing (poor Shiyi had no backing from her family - so clear in the episode where the Xu family mistreated her by sending her to the country villa but both her parents were like "no, no she should live her life for her husband's family so don't feel bad, Marquis") than from consideration for his feelings. The prejudice was so bad from the mom. Dannyang took three years to get pregnant but not a word of criticism or concubines and Qiao wasn't pregnant after 2 years and got a "you're young - give it time," whereas Shiyi is married for under a year and the MIL is like "she's failed in her duties as a wife."
I commented this elsewhere before. Another YT commenter made me notice the imagery with the flowers and the bees. It is a subtle suggestion that Shiyi has been laid by Lingyi. So they did have sex on their wedding night. As in the original novel,, where he tricked her into thinking he was asleep, and forced himself upon her. In the tv series, the morning after the wedding night the camera focuses on red flowers and bees in the garden. Later in the series this image reappears (in the ep with their quarrel at concubine Web's birthday) . In between, in another ep, it is symbolically suggested that Lingyi has already plucked her flower (her female sex organ, her virginity) when he plucks a flower for her, in the garden.

If you are talking about Shiyi, then marriage is not entirely accidental, but definitely not desirable. As for behaviour. He himself said that Shiyi is a child. At least as long as he sees her that way. It's normal for a grown man to be reluctant to molest a teenager and feel uncomfortable in such a situation. And if the question is about a visit to her family, then there sister Er-nyan did her best. She specifically mentioned his deceased wife to embarrass Shiyi (and got him captured). The mother-in-law also added, scolding her wife in his presence, also indirectly accusing him of humiliating the status of the first wife (household management). I would also not be comfortable in such a situation and would like to escape somewhere.
Listen, the stiffness of these characters towards each other is stifling the life out of me 😅. They make their roles so uncomfortable to watch lol. Oh my god. The talent is real. Lord, I hope they loosen up throughout the episodes. This just feels too damn real lol

If you are talking about Shiyi, then marriage is not entirely accidental, but definitely not desirable. As for behaviour. He himself said that Shiyi is a child. And if the question is about a visit to her family, then there sister Er-nyan did her best. She specifically mentioned his deceased wife to embarrass Shiyi (and got him captured).
