I think the mask can be removed, but it's probably gonna be really difficult cuz I saw an picture and it shows that it actually has a full Michael Keaton head sculpt underneath, just still has the black eye makeup
The closed hand is better for the grapple gun. Tends to fall out of the open one, though I could see how the intention was there for the open hand to be used for it.

The hand u said was useless is for the grapnel gun. The mask does remove and the soft rubber piece is part of the suit

there is a hole on the batrang look closely it hard to find
That "weird soft piece" is part of the costume and the open right hand is sculpted to be used with the grapple gun.
