This house is so early 20th century. The interiors remind me of the lavish film sets from early 1930's films.

Some of the interiors are full-fledged Regency Deco. A favorite of Hollywood set decorators when evoking the ultimate in luxurious living.

An aerial photograph would have been helpful here, because the estate is in one of the best situations in Bel Air. It's basically on a raised "island" that sits alone above a sprawling golf & country club.

I think this house is exquisite. Can you imagine the windows being open to the (then) fragrant warm California breezes? I love it.

Had no idea this place existed. Definitely worthy of your attentions, Ken. Absolute time capsule of 1930s top dollar taste, though it does end up resembling a very high class mortuary.

Most of the spectacular houses in Bel Air , Holmby Hills and Beverly Hills have been torn down and replaced by vile Persian palaces or ultra midern cold as ice concrete and glass houses. 87% of the homeowners voted in favor of a historic preservation zone but some people hired a Century City law firm and blocked it.

Truly a fabulous home - those gorgeous interiors & furnishings! - but can't even fathom living as a single person (with some staff) in a vast 40,000 square foot mansion...kinda depressing to think about. I hope to learn more about Hilda Boldt.

The "tastes" of the times in those days seems very pretentious to me. Some people might like neo-classical, but I prefer a Frank Lloyd Wright design or a Green and Green bungalow. I wonder if I can use it for filming was my first thought as a Hollywood location scout. It looks like something tRump would feel at home in..

Sudden heart attacks were normal in those days - pre angioplasty, pre bypass. No statins. Guy probably ate steak twice a week and smoked like a chimney. Beautiful house. My cousins lived in Beverly Glen back in our 50s/60s childhood. There's really almost no there there - almost all the pretty old houses destroyed for ugly nouveau riche garbage.

It strikes me that many of the opulent houses featured don't make it any farther than one more generation... They had no family they had no children so she just ran down the finances and sold it off. Instead of focusing on others she thought building something to highlight her extravagance would ingrain her into Los Angeles society at the time. Even into the 1920s La was a bit of a rough and tumble western town. It didn't seem like she'd fit their no matter what kind of life she led. Personal I think she killed him.
