Hi! You are absoluty Wright! Some day, they will fell the paine! By the way, I ran a Komori 526 all by my self for almost 20 years! All my safety guards was on the machine! So I have all my bodyparts! 😉😉😉😉😉😉
Really why do they need two guys to run a single color. We had a 2nd pressman on a 5 color Heidelberg. The Miehle 138 and Heidelberg 240 had only one guy.
1:09 alwys work from middle to outdides it what my offset teacher told me in 1990's. Few years later I got understanding why, I got to operate Sor-D big manual press, but here multipkle people have task.. in Netherlands you operate it alone. Later I got to work with Speedmasters ranging in sizes, all operated by one person, also the 8 tower Heidelberg Speedmaster 102-8-p
Love the job, seen it from oldest 4 color packaging board, to heidelberg, to RZO my favorite, never big on Miehle. I loved the work but the industry went from 5.000 impressions to 10,000, and now 15,000, manning would seem to be a big issue I saw one man run a 4 color 30 inch, before blanket washers, the work had its long term effects on psyche.
La SORD est une véritable presse offset avec l’architecture encore actuelle donc plus aboutie que la Kord qui est une presse typo transformée en offset pour faciliter le passage à l’offset des conducteurs typo 😊
A SORD is 25x36" A KORD is 18x24". That's kind of a weird size. It depends on what kind of work you want to do. The KORD will do a good job but is slightly outdated. The SORD is still competitive and it is certainly faster. On older machines you have to worry about the availability of replacement parts.
More than one guy on a single color 36" would be lugury and waste full. I ran to 40" by myself for a minute love the press though. Ran everything they made except one of sords before retirement
How many guys on a simple press like this? I never had anyone help me after I started running the press and was expected to produce of you want paid. Average 6 washups and 50000 a day was expected. Didn't matter how hard the job was. Sure would've like to have had some help feeding for sure
My dad was a union member pressman back in the 1950's and 1960's. Under Union regulations if you're press was larger than a 29 inch you had to have a helper on a single color.
I watch a lot of videos like this. Many seem to be from Asia and Mexico. The working conditions are an abomination. Don't these places get any government safety inspections? In the US we have OSHA inspections. Too many violations and the whole plant gets shut down.
any advice for a beginner. I'm in the printing and graphics training program at my trade school I'm in my senior year and I've been working with a 2 color offset press. I've done 3 jobs so far this year I'm extremely interested in offset printing I like it a lot! But i feel I make a lot of stupid mistakes working with them. I'm just wondering if anyone has felt like this before and maybe can give me some advice. Thank you
Hey there starkiller, so you've entered the world of printing. It can be a bit overwhelming at first but only experience gets you better thus reducing the mistakes. Yes, I've made plently when first starting off but those mistakes taught me what NOT to do.. LOL. Some words of advice.. don't try to be as fast as other experienced operators, it only leads to mistakes and at worse can possibly lead to an injury. If you had the proper training and you keep doing your job correctly you will soon realize your confidence level goes up and somehow.. just somehow you're much faster at what you do. Let the speed come to you, don't try to chase it. Pretty much like most everything in life. Nothing is "etched in stone" within the printing trade so always keep an open mind and don't be afraid to think outside the box. Finally NEVER let a press run you... YOU run the press, it's very easy to fall into this predicament during a more complicated or problematic run. If you find yourself getting frustrated and losing control grab some fresh air then attack your issues with a more clear head. Hope this helps you, good luck with everything 🙌🙂.
Printing is a trade that you can take a lot if pride in because not many people are good at it. I ran a Hamada 611 with T-head for 7 years an it is a lot of trial and error, every machine is temperamental so you have to learn. What is going to work for each one. We all started where you have so please continue the trade. Again, not a lot of people can print and I have a lot of respect for anyone that can.
@@foxbat2581 Thank you I really enjoy working with offset. I like it a lot better than doing InDesign and photoshop stuff. This might sound weird but I really wanna continue this field in printing but I feel like I'm not even good enough to even continue learning in this type of work I feel like I should be better than what I'm doing now.
@@hampton8474 what is it that is making you feel like you aren't good at it? Is it paper feed or ink consistency or something else? I took graphic arts in the early 90's and came out of trade school thinking that I knew a lot until they put me behind a press in a business setting. We ran envelopes, 3 sided bleeds, coated stock and everything in between. Don't give up if you like what you are doing, it is an art. It took me a solid couple of years running 8 hours a day when I considered myself good but I hardly turned my back on the press because it was constant monitoring. Stick with it you will be respected for your trade.
Best career I’ve had. 35 year press operator. From A.B.D To 8 Color 40” Mov. Just love that job.
It just amazes me, all the safety guards have been removed and you have two operators running this machine… Oh my lord

Operator are very expert
Put him on a 4 color? He will lose his mind! Single color printing is so boring I need a bigger challenge....

Please SORD and KORD offset printing machines which one is more preferred? Your answer will be helpful as a startup.
Sord
Sord is so much faster than a Kord I cut my teeth on one and it’s still one of the best presses I’ve ever run. I can almost smell the shop they’re in
