I am a rather new person to basketball. I was introduced by Larry bird less than a month ago. I love seeing all the reactions everyone has who knows more about basketball
Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball athlete of all time. He was the ultimate in human athletic evolution, a true physical specimen. The Bird is the greatest ALL-AROUND basketball player of all time. He was a master at every single aspect of the game, ALL OF THEM! The giant diamond in Larry's crown was his Demosthenes-level trash talk. It all comes down to a simple question: who would you pick to watch your back and take the last second clutch shot needed to win a game? Larry willingly destroyed his body and endured enormous physical pain to win games while playing at 200% every single second he was on the court. To me there is no question, The Bird is the GOAT.
I agree completely! Just proves athleticism alone doesn’t cut it! Jordan didn’t win a thing until he grew up and started playing like a team player and when Bird and Magic retired. Just that’s just a coincidence right?
A quote from Essentially Sports "And Celtic legend Kevin McHale, who was part of those teams, talked about how Jordan was different from Bird and Magic. He says," Here's the difference between those three, and I saw it many, many times. Larry and Magic could control the game by taking 10 shots. They'd have 17 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, 4 steals." "If you got Michael Jordan to take 10 shots, you control him". "
I don't care who ranks what. Bird is my man. There are too many intangibles to get into a big old discussion. That takes away. I'll just enjoy the highlights. Thanks for the reactions, you sweet young man. I'm old enough to be your grandma, and I got to see the great Bird. Unfortunately, not live, but the games where you never knew what he would pull off this time. Hee hee. So fun to watch.
I was watching that game when he did that. After the game the interviewed Celtics players who said well everybody is shocked to see him do that but none of us were because he does it all the time in practice.
Larry Bird averaged 21.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 82 games in his rookie season in 1979-80. He was selected to play in his first All-Star game, and won the Rookie of the Year award. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage 2 steals how's that for numbers CAREER!!
You would have loved watching bird play in person. He was unbelievable. Bird is the smartest most clutch player to ever play! He was the complete package. He is still to this day, the best shooter I have ever seen. He was unstoppable. His passing was legendary, he always knew where everyone was on the court. He rebounded like a center. His heart and determination made him a defensively nightmare. And his will to win was unrelenting. Larry legend is my Goat. Michael Jordan beat everybody in the playoffs, except bird. 0 for 6 he was swept twice. That's all you have to now about how good bird was.
Larry has 10 minute + HighLight videos of His 100+ Career Game Winning Shots .. . . . . . As Larry has stated Many, many, Many Times before with just 24 Seconds Left on The Game Clock . . . ""Just give Me The🏀Ball and Stay Out of My Way"" !!!!!!
Bird did touch passes all the time because he knew that defenders couldn't react quickly enough. He was the first person to do the 50 40 90 club. He won three consecutive MVPs and prior to those three MVPs he was first runner up three times and after the three MVPs he was first runner-up twice. He did something every night that would spin your head!!!
1985/86 was the best Bird year imo. He and the Celtics were SOOOO hot, that when I was halfway across the globe in '87, in a tiny store, on a small island in Greece, the store owner found out I was from Boston and 3 guys in there lost their minds and started cheering.... "You're from Boston? You know the Celtics? Do you know Larry Bird?" 😂 I had to disappoint them by saying I did not personally know Larry Bird, but I did meet M.L. Carr when he came to visit my school. 😂😂😂
Bird was THE Clutch player- the more highlights you see, you'll see the proof. Pat Reilly said "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I’d choose Michael Jordan," Pat said. "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I’d take Larry Bird." That says it all
Larry made his passes look so easy!!! Smooth as silk! He wasn't a fast runner but he was quick and had a rocket for an arm!! Definitely tops in clutch plays!!! ❤ The Legend!!
There isn’t a GOAT alive or dead that wouldn’t be absolutely fuckin stoked to have Larry Legend on their team. He was the consummate team player. He didn’t care about his status. He just wanted to win.
Bird was a better passer, rebounder and clutch shooter than Jordan was, but that's not the half of it. Bird wasn't just great individually..he made everyone around him better. Bird was one of those rare players (along with Magic and Russell) who could literally change the whole character of the team as soon as he arrived. With Bird being the only change in their starting lineup, Boston went from 29-53 in '79 to 61-21 in '80.
He also had more blocks, was involving other players in the game more, and was more motivating to others. Jordan was a machine but more indicidualistic. He had after a point a team greatly built to balance that out and have him do his thing to great level, but Bird was more complete.
Jordan was a one man show with a sidekick, most of the time- Larry the Legend, shared the spotlight- And constantly, would pass, tip or bounce pass, to others and not steal the spotlight- He was above others with thinking about BB- AmAzING! He was "THE CLUTCH PLAYER"- MJ never really passed- he was clutch in the sense he would shoot- and not share the shot with others- Larry was best clutch for me, because he might shoot or pass it- JUST MY OPINION!
@@tarrakieran2057 Bird made the whole team better..as did Magic and Russell. That's what the best of the best players do, IMO It's a team game and the object is to win. MJ got more rings due in large part to lack of competition..not because he was better than they were.
I'm WAY older than you, I watched Bird play with my own eyes. Everybody talks about his shooting, but his feeds and passes were what always impressed me. (Well, the shooting didn't hurt, lol) Thing is, he always had everyone's position on the court in his head- he didn't even have to look at them. He'd fake taking a shot, then the ball would go some bizarre direction- right into another Celtics' hands! I mean, the guy wasn't even there a split second ago, but he knew where he WOULD be when he threw the ball. That kind of awareness made the whole team better.
His passing video (re-edit with additional footage)* is worth a look. Also, check out some of his college stuff, it's pretty impressive. I think it was the ISU - Duke game where I wondered how long it would take to he impressed. Tip-off the ball goes his way, fast touch pass to team member. I was like "not long, apparently." *title might be wrong, but "re-edit" will get you there, I think. Also...SUBSCRIBE, people...not like it will hurt you.
Here is the stat line. 897 games. 24.3 pts 10 rebs 6.3 assts fg% 49.6 3fg% 37.6 ft% 88.6 First guy ever to have a 50/40/90 season, and did it 2 yrs in a row.
Larry averaged 6-7 assists in his career, a crucial part of his game was getting his team involved. Did you react to: 1986 Boston Celtics The Beautiful Game?
Larry Bird was a human highlight reel. Sadly, I don't think all the footage is out there that could be. First of all, not all his games were televised nationally. For every play we've seen, there are probably double or even triple that amount that we've not seen. Second, the guy was a basketball genius, as stated by Dr. J. His ability for quickly thinking and reaction was unmatched at the time. He knew were everyone was on the court at all times. His ability to pass was also unmatched. It's not that guys like Magic weren't great passers, because he certainly was a great passer, but I don't think anyone duplicated Bird's creativity with his passes. You literally didn't know what angle it was going to come from. It could be over the shoulder, off the bounce, behind the back, a touch pass, a no-look pass, or any combo thereof. I watched him growing up every chance I got, and I will proudly say he was my basketball hero. He was certainly clutch, and I watched him suck the joy out of a lot of teams when he hit game-winning shots with no time (or very little time) left. I don't have stats on how many games he saved versus other stars, but he was clutch enough!
Have you seen Larry's left handed 3 pointer??? Yes, the man could do it all!! Watching the game live, I couldn't even follow his passes, they were so fast!! His full court passes were insanely accurate!! Tom Brady accurate!! Celtics would run so if the other team didn't get back, easy 2 for the celtics!! There's this one highlight of Larry breaking this guy's ankles and Larry stands there with the ball and waits for him to get back up, then shoots it over his head, nothing but nylon. LOL
Watching some of his passes reminds me of a pinball in a pinball machine bouncing off of the bumpers the way the ball would almost appear to just bounce off of his hands when he would re-direct a pass to him from himself to someone else. Hard to believe he lost feeling in one of his hands because of his injury.
Larry owned Michael. The numbers don't lie. And I was there, son. There were plenty of good shooters. Bird did it all at the highest level. And with a couple seconds left he'd make the shot double-teamed ninety eight percent of the time. My brother and I still talk about that team. As they'd walk out to the court, we'd be like "Work day's done at the factory." None of them looked like athletes. Then they came out and played like the Harlem Globetrotters. The pass with four defenders that you said you didn't see we call the Matrix pass. We knew we were seeing something special.
Really enjoyed your commentary about our Great Bird Man, please review more of his highlights, and I think you would also enjoy his video, about being the best passer of all time!
Great breakdown of the steal and pass behind his head before he goes out of bounds and then runs in the fast break without hesitation. So much was going on there.
I’m 64 a Laker fan my whole life, I respect Larry Bird definitely The best white player ever. He drove me crazy. Even after magics baby hook, Larry Birds last second shot I thought it was in, just long Lakers win.
Larry Bird is in the top group of the best ever Hall of Famer’s but Jordan is definitely the goat of all of them! EDIT: Bird’s other nickname was Mr. clutch and yes, he was the best clutch shooter that the NBA ABA have ever seen
This is Kasey's mom..Mama Bear..he would have been 34 ..I miss him dearly but I use his account cause he loved BBall n football..I got him into both n enjoyed watching every game with him!❤
Yes, Jordan's SuperTeams Won more Championships . . . . Jordan Won many One Player Awards . . . But, Larry was a Team Player, who even Returned to a Game Injured to Help ""His Team"" Win that Game (PERIOD)🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
Great players always want the ball last one to shoot and win. But remember, he also played with other great players like Parrish, Dennis Johnson, Kevin McHale and others my old mind doesn't remember. His team mates were happy to let Bird score and he passed to them also, they just had to cut to the basket and be open,Bird wanted to win and he shared the ball. To name the GOAT is futile, there were also many that played like GOATs. They are here so we can enjoy their play.
Larry wasn't flashy with monster pose dunks and free throw slams. His game wasn't built around that. Never one for individual stats or he would own the books. I didn't win the championship, we won it. Legend
While attending college Larry's team was playing ours and we heard they had a future all American on their team. So during warm ups we tried to guess which black player he was. Well we were wrong and he beat our league champion team and set our arena scoring record! Loved your reactions! Peace from Northern Michigan.
I'm gonna take the time since you actually asked. I'm 50, ex point guard coaches son, gym rat type. Pops was a HUGE celts fan, I remember Bird getting draft when I was a kid,., My playing days were the hey day of the most talented era across the board BY FAR. Sorry new gen, gotta tell the truth. All that being said, I had bird, but by the time Mike retired I had him. But now looking back at all these reactors and understanding sht even more now, I still have to flip a coin between MIKE and LARRY, everybody else a close second, and i'm just being honest don't be trying to compare Lebron (mot taking nothing FROM him, Just telling the truth.) with Mike and act like 8/24 aint the fkn bridge to get there.
I was thinking 84-88. I think I was told he was 50-40-90 average for that 5 year stretch. He was fabulous for varying reasons for his entire career. Always working to improve his game and his contribution to the team and fans.
Bird...KING of clutch.
Larry Legend cluchest player ever 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh, and LARRY LEGEND IS A UNICORN & THE TRUE GOAT 🐐
Bird is the man.
Bird IS the clutchest player. And GOAT passer. IMO
Larry the GOAT.
I grew up watching Bird n DR J.. Bird is a GOAT!! Loved watching him!
Larry Legend 🏀
Bird is the 🐐.
It's great seeing others realize how badass this guy was.

@@cindyknudson2715 boom, check mate!
Agreed! My #1 and #2 are Bird and Jordan ( in that order)
I agree with all the Larry stuff but I’d say Wilt is the better athlete than Jordan.
NOBODY could see the entire court as well as Larry Bird, NOBODY.
I don't care who ranks what. Bird is my man. There are too many intangibles to get into a big old discussion. That takes away. I'll just enjoy the highlights. Larry Bird is the most clutch player followed closely by Jordan. Then, a bunch of space, followed by everyone else.
I never ever get tired watching Bird!
Bird is the best player I have seen.
My fav is when he assisted his own shot and got it in.
I was watching that game when he did that. After the game the interviewed Celtics players who said well everybody is shocked to see him do that but none of us were because he does it all the time in practice.

how's that for numbers CAREER!!
I lived in Boston back in the day. I has season tickets. Bird was insanely good. It was like he has eyes in the back of his head.
As great as his stats were He didn't really care about stats he didn't mind if he scored 15 points as long as they won the game
Yes he's the Clutchest player 🐐
Bird is an all time all around player. He did EVERYTHING a basketball player should.

FYI, Bird averaged like 6 assists per game over his career, and 7 during his best stretch, when he won 3 consecutive league MVPs.
Bird is the most clutch player in history. Watch making the Case: Larry Bird
HE is the number one clutch player.
Larry has 10 minute + HighLight videos of His 100+ Career Game Winning Shots .. . . . . .

Bird averaged a triple double a. Couple yrs...3 MVP,S IN A ROW
It was a different era in b-ball. Skill and basic fundamentals mattered. Bird was the best of both.

Bird routinely shot three pointers off of one foot. He was deadly accurate.
Larry always knew where everybody was. Crazy bball IQ

This is one if my favorite Bird reactions of yours
Welcome to Birdland. He did that stuff every game with the Celtics. This was probably a Tuesday for him.
For you, it was the most important day of your life. But for Larry Bird, it was a Tuesday.
Larry averaged 6-7 assists in his career, a crucial part of his game was getting his team involved. Did you react to: 1986 Boston Celtics The Beautiful Game?
Passes are not only the assists he gave many more great passes
Bird doest get the respect he was top 5 of all time.he was a hit mAN.

Bird best passer.
Larry Bird's greatest passes are crazy
I’ve got a video on my page that lists 21 clutch/buzzer beaters of which 18 are game winners.
🐐
I love to see young people appreciate The Legend's skills. Keep on spreading the facts.
I’m going with him being the clutches ever simply because I haven’t seen anyone better.
Pat Riley said "If I need a shot to win a game, I choose Mike Jordan. If I need a shot to save my life, I choose Larry Bird."
I said the same thing
Bird's passing skills were... ... ... (I'll get back to you when they invent the proper adjective).
He made volleyball passes.
Watching some of his passes reminds me of a pinball in a pinball machine bouncing off of the bumpers the way the ball would almost appear to just bounce off of his hands when he would re-direct a pass to him from himself to someone else. I watch Larry Bird highlights every few weeks and it is always just as fun this many years later.
You should check out Bird’s assists video 😂
Really enjoyed your commentary about our Great Bird Man, please review more of his highlights, and I think you would also enjoy his video, about being the best passer of all time!
Multiple times he hit a 3 pointer off one leg. There is a clip of him doing a 3 point full-court received alley-oop.
Great breakdown of the steal and pass behind his head before he goes out of bounds and then runs in the fast break without hesitation. So much was going on there.
Mr. CLUCH to you.
The .most clutch player of all time bird best passer I ever saw
Bird is the only player in NBA history to average over 20, 10 and 5 plus almost a block per game and 2 steals let that sink in 😂😂😂
Hard to say which was his best season...he won 3 MVP Awards in a row.
Bird averaged 6.3 assists per game, throughout his career.
Only 24 10 and 6 man in nba history
I’m 64 a Laker fan my whole life, I respect Larry Bird definitely The best white player ever. He drove me crazy. Even after magics baby hook, Larry Birds last second shot I thought it was in, just long Lakers win.
Larry Bird is one of the like three or four most clutch players in the history of the league. He was also was a double-digit rebounder for his career.
Bird was one of a kind basketball player
I'm 10 seconds in and I like you already
Larry Bird is in the top group of the best ever Hall of Famer’s but Jordan is definitely the goat of all of them!
EDIT:
Bird’s other nickname was Mr. clutch and yes, he was the best clutch shooter that the NBA ABA have ever seen
This is Kasey's mom..Mama Bear..he would have been 34 ..I miss him dearly but I use his account cause he loved BBall n football..I got him into both n enjoyed watching every game with him!❤
Hi Mama Bear
And there are idiots that say Bird wasn't athletic.
Yes, Jordan's SuperTeams Won more Championships . . . . Jordan Won many One Player Awards . . .

who even Returned to a Game Injured to Help ""His Team"" Win that Game (PERIOD)🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
And youngsters think Larry is cancelled 😂
I've seen hundreds of Bird reactions. Yours has the best analysis I've seen. You fully understand the small, fine print nuances. Great job!

Bird was the most clutch player that ever hit the boards!!!
Larry wasn't flashy with monster pose dunks and free throw slams. His game wasn't built around that. Never one for individual stats or he would own the books. I didn't win the championship, we won it. Legend
I gotta say, as an old Celtic and Bird fan, I love your reactions 😊.
Baffour HD, good one, yeah I saw all this real time, Larry Legend was beyond clutch,he was an killer on the court- ask MJ! LOL
Absolutely the most clutch. MJ says it himself
Yes, Drop all of Bird highlights,... My top 3: Wilt, MJ, Bird

Larry Bird was the best all-around basketball player to ever play game!!
“ I know who I am, I’m Larry Bizzle” 😂👏😎
Just finished your intro and I've been laughing at least half the time you are fantastic please do not change
Larry’s best seasons statistically were 87/88 I believe 👍
1982-1986 was Bird's best years.
I was thinking 84-88. I think I was told he was 50-40-90 average for that 5 year stretch. He was fabulous for varying reasons for his entire career. Always working to improve his game and his contribution to the team and fans.
