I wonder if there is any connection between tail and exams in English, or if it was just a random gag. In my native Russian, we say "I've got a tail" if we fail an exam and have to retake it. We "hand in our tails" when we finally pass.

The remark had no relation to exams. She said 'nice tail' noting the cats tail on his coat and Marin thought she complimented his ass (referring to the idom 'chasing tail' I assume)
