You can also check for a bad bearing by spinning suspicious tire by hand (car in neutral, parking brake set, other wheels blocked to prevent car from rolling) while keeping other hand on the strut spring. With a bad bearing you will feel vibration through the spring. I used this method to check 2000 corolla (however the bearing race was badly dented, so it was very easy to detect) PS I used your method on my 1987 Camry; it was fun:)
i think its good to share such mistakes so that other people will learn from it. Better to watch it in a video and laugh about it than do something yourself and then cry about it
Hey just a heads up, the caliper mount off with the pads and caliper installed, this will save time not having to removing and reassembling the brake pads.
I replaced my first wheel bearing about 2 years ago on a 2011 Camry. 35 years of driving Toyotas. Had to take Knuckle off and use sledge to beat out old bearing. 1 full swing did the trick. Rear bearing. Used a Timken. Tried everything on the vehicle but just saved time and get the 6lb in action. Had to be careful not to break knuckle. It had plenty of oil, transmission fluid and penetrating fluid on it so it soaked a little through but not all the way. It went flying when I hit it. Knuckle stayed put in the grass. Rear bearing.
This is a great video. I am changing the wheel bearing on my 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, and the knuckle appears identical. I noticed at 14:40 your inner race was pressed out and left separated, which is typical. How did you remove the inner race? I also noticed the cup does not want to pop out easily at 12:44. I saw another video where someone uses a panel removal tool (that pops the plastic body panel rivets) and is shaped like a "Z", could pry from the bottom of the cup instead of the top, as you are doing with your screwdriver. This may be a bit easier, or maybe find a trash screwdriver and bent a 90 degree to pry from the bottom. Here in Oakland, CA, I called my local independant Japanese auto shop (not a dealer), and they charge $430 to change a wheel bearning on my Highlander. I bought a Timken O.E. bearing ($33) and 30mm 12-point axle socket ($15) on Amazon. Normally I'd just use the free tool loaner program at O'Reily's Auto, but they only have the 6 point axle sockets. It's $45 to take my knuckle to get a new bearing pressed at the local machine shop in Berkeley, CA. Overall I love your video, thanks!
@@RescueMoversDFW I changed my 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid wheel bearing this holiday weekend. Instead of using a shop press, I used my local auto parts store tool-lending program to borrow a wheel bearing press, which is basically a gigantic bolt with an assortment of various sized discs to match the diameter of your wheel bearing. When pressing out a wheel bearing, the inner race normally is stuck to one-half of the knuckle after you split the knuckle. I was worried that I would not be able to remove the stuck inner race, however removing it ended up being the easiest part of this job. I used a dremel with a metal cutting disc to score a groove at 12 and 6 o'clock and used a chisel and small hammer to crack the inner race in two pieces (see my video link). The inner race metal is super strong but also super brittle. This was the first time I attempted to replace a wheel bearing and I was scared I'd get stuck partway in, but it wasn't as difficult as I imagined. As a backup, I scheduled it so that I could go to a shop with a press if I got stuck pressing the bearing out or back in. Video of me using my local O'Reilly Auto tool lending wheel bearing press (a giant bolt) and how to remove the stuck inner-race after splitting the knuckle in two: th-cam.com/video/4JHETfLzyRM/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for tip, still a lot of work to change the wheel bearing .
exactly
I owned many camrys in my life, I never had to change wheel bearing ever!!!!
I do remember I changed it once in my dodge ram van 1500.
Well now they make them a lil more hard to replace them
Had to get one on mine replaced at around 140K miles on my 2010 Camry SE
Replaced 2011 passenger side bearing at 289,000 miles

I had no idea a Camry could make ice. Mine is just a base model.
