from what i have heard and read!it was mr.sal glesser from spyderco who come up with the idea for one handed opening with the hole in the blade,to forgo the thumb studs that most other knife makers where doing,so simple yet vary practical don't you think, thanks

I just received one. I had a spyderco delica years ago so I knew what to expect. For what is meant to be a more economical choice the quality and finish is top notch, I had read some bad reviews but all the problems described seem to have been solved. As for the slip joint its good, if you are having a problem with it then you have got the wrong tool for the job as no slip joint is intended for brute force cutting. Keep it sharp, learn to use it with care. I normally use a SAK and I have never folded it up on my own fingers in use as I let the edge do the work and select the blade correctly, the smallest blade in fact being the one for jobs requiring more pressure.

Bought one of these, was pretty good, however took it apart to clean lint out from the inside tried putting it back together and all of the screws stripped. Bit of a pain but cant fault Heinlenieas there delivery of the product was spot on as usual. I reckon just save uk and get the uk pk

I see you have the first generation UKPK, new ones are full flat grind, also the Tern and UKPK has come out with new colours. I live in the politically free part of China, knife laws for the entire China are locking or unlocking up to 10 cm. or 3 inches. Being an older guy, I like slip joints. Thx for this great review and support for China made knives.

The Byrd Tern is OK but it (and the UKPK) can cut your fingers when it closes on them during a minor cutting task. I use the tiny little Ka-Bar Mini Dozier with a 2 3/8" blade [2 1/4" cutting edge]). It's only 1.2 oz and almost 'not there' in pocket. I understand that the asenine UK laws mean it's illegal (due to the lock-back design), but it's much safer to use. I'm a 53 year old asthmatic man with three slipped discs and a heart condition. Not a mugger or killer etc...come on Britain. Use some common sense regarding knife law. Almost all knife crime is committed with kitchen utensils anyway. Are they to be banned too?

Not really a valid point given both the Tern and the UKPK are choiled in a way that makes closing on your fingers almost impossible.

Yeah, UK laws about knives are dumb. It's not the lock of the knife that's the dangerous part! If someone gets stabbed with a locking knife or a non-locking knife, they're still just as dead!!!

Hate it, iv had it for about 6 months and its bad, dont hold an edge at all, you will lose your fingers if held wrong as the slip joint is weak as hell. Pocket clip is again weak

It's not a comet, the thumb hole looks like the beak of a bird.

If you're afraid of getting cut, maybe you shouldn't play with knives
