Battle Ground Lake is a Maar - a geological feature left by a sudden explosion due to lava interacting with groundwater below. There are some Maars in south central Oregon such as Hole in the Ground and Big Hole. These resemble in size craters left behind from some of the nuclear bomb tests in Nevada. So think about the explosion that formed this - could be in the kiloton or megaton range. The Boring Volcanic Field that produced such things as the little cinder cone on Mt. Tabor, Larch Mountain and this feature - is not that old and certainly not that boring! Hopefully it will never reactivate but there is no reason why it wouldn't.
Came across this googling images of hte the park to show my GF, because I want to take her there. This is beautiful and makes me really want to get into drone filming like this. We live in Vancouver WA, where there is loads of stuff like this in only a few minutes drive range. My mom lives in a small town along the Puget Sound in a perfect spot for this kind of stuff.
