1974. The year I was born. Awesome commercials. I bet those Breakfast Squares were the bomb.
That was a trend, back then. I liked Carnation's Breakfast Bars.
😳uhh???😂 I just love that little news room blooper!!!😂
0:29 the iconic voice of Eddie Barth for Alka-Seltzer. You'll remember his distinctive voice on those Lite Beer from Miller commercials: "Everything you ever wanted in a beer. And less."
NBC nightly news set looks so cool, like someone could be beamed up from it!
That's Eddie Barth providing the voiceover in the Alka-Seltzer spot. Perhaps his most successful ad campaign he lent his voice to was
none other than Miller Lite. RIP,Eddie.
Nixon ruined my 1973 summer vacation. The Watergate hearings were on tv every day.
I remember that well. My afternoon cartoons were taken over by Watergate.
Breakfast Squares! I remember those!
Wished they brought them back.
love the old commercials
George Montgomery's got it made in this 1974 Pledge commercial.
This is the year my parents split. Gotta love the 70's so kid friendly
3:34 - I MISS BREAKFAST SQUARES!!!
Me too. 🙁
Yes, sadly, it was; this newscast aired on August 8, 1974. Within hours, all three major networks brought live coverage of Nixon announcing that he would "resign the presidency effective at noon tomorrow".
Coke spots...Talk about an early ramp-up to the Bicentennial....
SX-70... I had a collection of 6 until my shed got flooded... they're just so "artsy" now...LOL
Really never had Breakfast Squares but I always packed some Space Food Sticks.
Didn't use Arrid and I'm well past 65....is there a connection?
Network news from the 70's...They may have seen what was coming but probably were confident in their dominance. Coke is used as a generic term to describe any brown, fizzy drink... even the ones brewed and bottled in someone's basement. Cable and the internet turned "news" into coke.
Interesting to see the commercials from the year I was born. I remember John Chancellor on TV, oddly enough.
A rare blooper.
Eddie Barth is the announcer in the Alka-Seltzer ad; Dave Ketchum is "Fred". David Doyle (later of "CHARLIE'S ANGELS") is indeed the barbeque chef/host, while Herschel Bernardi is the announcer for WIsh-Bone.
I remember the theme music for national news .
Chancellor caught off guard there....
One thing about these commercials is that they portray the country as it was, the people which appear on these commercials try to look as close as possible to the real folk out there. Today's commercials is a totally distorted view of our society, only sexy characters are shown. Not to mention the tons of politically correct sensitive issues which further suppresses the reality wich is evident to the public.
Arrid was the best ever,,, saved me many nervous nites!!!! Thanks arrid!,, even bought the stock and made THOUSANDS
@ 3:33 - These were dry, chalky, artificially flavored blocks of crap. But I could not get enough of them at the time.
No high pitched girl announcers nor techno background music...just well directed commercials with style! Why do things have to change?
I was born in this year
The year I came into the world, thanks Mom 💝🌎
And you celebrate with Alka-Seltzer and a lemon twist?
Th!anks for the memories
Bosley from "Charlies' Angels" in a backyard bar-b-que?
Yes, that was David Doyle.
Wikipedia says he 'retired in 1972', so my guess is this commercial is one of his last 'film' appearances...
I THOUGHT that was Eddie Barth. He passed away recently. Most would know him from SIMON AND SIMON,I guess.Baffled looking John Chancellor caught offguard is a damn good bonus
this was great.
1:02 lol
+gibby100 no 7 second delay back then I guess?
It's from August 8, 1974 isn't it?
Yes.
Judging by the Chancellor segment at the end of this, it would appear that these aired the night Nixon announced his resignation. One other comment: in the Breakfast Squares ad, where the hell did you ever see a female school bus driver that was as attractive as that woman? They're usually about five feet tall and five feet from shoulder to shoulder.
1:01 LOL uhhh
Yes sir... I completely recognized that similarity back when ABC introduced it...
Back then the narrator just came out and told you how to think ! LOL
I WANT TO GO BACK I WAS 3 YEARS OLD 😔 NO BILLS NO RENT NO CAREER JUST A 3 YEAR OLD GIRL WITH WONDERFUL PARENTS YES I SAID PARENTS NOT BABY MAMA AND DADDIES IN A MIDDLE CLASS UPBRINGING WIH MY 2 SISTERS AND BROTHER AND A 40" TELEVISION NO FLAT SCREENS TO WATCH REAL COMMERCIALS AND TV PROGRAMS 😁😁😁
Polaroid camera with flash cubes!! Ugh... there have been a few improvements at least. Using flash cubes sucked. Only good for 4 photos!
Yea, really...? Flash Bar was good for 8 and I remember having a stack of partially used ones..."just in case." Kinda like the briefcase full of partially used Disneyland ticket books...
Lets see. '74 and something big in the news. Im gonna get its Nixon announcing his resignation?
I had just started junior high and this was obviously the big topic in our history class. If thats what mr Chanselor was talking about.
Its funny, he was taking it tragically, as he should. It was a big deal then. But in contrast to corruption these days, it would be a happy time if that was all that went wrong.
That does strike an awful resemblance to the logo and music signature of rival ABC News from 1978-2000
The word ---BC had a white color, and the word NEWS had a blue color.
The four-note music signature sounded the same as the ABC News signature we hear to this day
1:37 WTF ??
So these were the commercials from the day Tricky Dick quit?
Nixon, oops.
@MrBeautifulba1 Bosley's loaded.
He's not George Montgomery!
2:20 - "Aluminum Chlorohydrate" never sounded as sexy. BTW, thanks for the Alzheimers, Arrid. Huh? Who?
and wieners and bacon was good wholesome food. lol
@musicom67 I hope to god the aliens don't ever see that footage.
Too late. 👽
2:10 Adrienne Barbeau?
Sorry, no. But if you do find any ads with her, let me know.
