Very nicely done. The part where you mentioned the extra plenum gasket was precious. The shims were the meat of the video. The housing gasket was an easily overlooked item. Wonderful, thankyou.

Thank you very much. I have been chasing an oil leak. I just found that its coming out from under the dist. I think its bottomed out and there's a gap. I will now shim it then install a new gasket. Instead of just a new gasket. Then I can finish my work on the advance curb. Thank You

When you reinsert the shaft, what sort of lubrication do you use. Just regular grease?

And to much end play will cause the timing to jump all over the place. Yes. Very good.

Great video, but a little bit of miss-information about the adjustable vacuum advance pots. They are not adjustable so as to limit total degrees of advance, you always get the same amount of travel no matter what, what the adjustment is for is only to adjust the vacuum range that it operates, for example to make it come in fully by lets say 10 inches of vacuum or move it up to be fully in by 18 inches of vacumm etc. Either way, you still get the full travel of the rod, the amount of degrees that it advances the timing doesn't change and that is how they are supposed to function when operating properly. The only way to limit the total advance that it gives you in degrees is to use one of these: m.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-99619-1/

I don't think that is accurate. If you look at the accel 31035 adjustable advance instructions (a lot of other brands are the same) the vacuum always is coming around 6" and is fully in by 8" or so. The adjustment limits the total vacuum advance. I have personally verified this by setting my initial advance then using a hand vacuum pump with a gauge and pumping it up while observing the timing shift. You can crank 30" of vacuum to it and it wont go beyond without turning the allen key for more adjustment.

Those eBay dizzys are crap… OK if you you don't mind replacing them every 10,000 miles.
