    Oh man, I had totally forgotten about this story until today. As a kid I always used to read this set of books called The Wonderful Worlds of Walt Disney and this was in it. I was obsessed with those books. My mom says she really got her money's worth by buying them because I totally wore them out. I still have them! They were SO wonderfully put together. Such a hallmark of my early childhood.

    Animation didn't come cheap in those days (it still doesn't); it takes at least 24 drawings for a measly second of film, and that's not counting the inking, painting, sound effects, music, voices, overall fine-tuning...yeah, you get the idea.
    So it was often necessary to reuse animation if they wanted to keep the business afloat.

    • @hkoxnw
      @hkoxnw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      this movie was made using xerography, which used a xerox to transfer drawings to the animation cels, which doesn't look quite as good as inking but is much easier.

    • @UmmYeahOk
      @UmmYeahOk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe that it was said that finding older scenes to copy and trace from the archives took just as long as if they had just redrawn everything from scratch. I mean, just how familiar were they with Tick Tock Crock scenes, Dream Prince Owl, and Timothy Mouse from Dumbo? Home video wasn’t a thing, and theatrical rereleases only happened about every decade. So while we may be enough of an expert to recognize, due to how many times we’ve seen them, I don’t think it was easy to do back then.

      That's because they are pleasing to look at, but lack the substance and story of the old films. If you wanna retell a story, fine. That's how we got all the Fairytales in the world, because they were passed down and retold through word of mouth. But you gotta be creative with the retelling of said story, and Disney's doing NONE of that.

    I don't know why so many people complain about Disney recycling their animations. It's saves time and effort so we can enjoy the stories and the morals they have to share. Disney even admitted they recycled if it involves the same creatures. Are you guys gonna complain about how "bambi" and "beauty and the beast" are related?? How about that pizza car from Pixar??? How many movies was that in? I can name 3.... How about the trailer in the middle of a tall grassy feild?? The same trailer from "bugs life" and "monsters Inc"....just BECAUSE this animation has the same crocodile from peter pan or same hug from dumbo doesn't mean the stories are the same or there was lack in effort. People need to get over this and stop lacking in the gratitude that Disney even cares enough to give us these beautiful stories. This a beautiful little animation regardless. And I'm happy to rewatch it over and over again. If you don't like Disney recycling, then you don't like Pixar, or Stories from normal movies copied from one another. Shut the hell up and get over it. There's alot of people out there that don't want to hear you complain about recycling animations or hear your harsh criticism.

    Goliath looks like the baby elephant from the jungle book, and the tiger looks like the wolf from the sword in the stone, and the tiger in goliath 2 looks like the tiger from goofy: tiger trouble, where goofy is trying to kill a tiger, but he keeps failing over and over again, and also goliath 2 must be a prequel to The Jungle Book Movie (1967). • @kingandrewcecil348
      @kingandrewcecil348 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @241Groundhog Interestingly during development of Disney's Robin Hood (1973), Prince John was originally conceived as a tiger, but since his older brother King Richard the Lion-Hearted obviously had to be portrayed as a lion, hence Prince John was instead changed from being a tiger into a lion, but when they retooled Prince John from a tiger to a lion, they kept the original tiger design, only that they removed the stripes, hence why Prince John had no mane despite being a male lion. Nevertheless the crew over at Disney still kept that "lion" design of Prince John that way, since Prince John is a very childish villain character (like Captain Hook from Disney's Peter Pan), and the lack of mane is meant to highlight the Prince John character's immaturity.

    In all seriousness, aside from the confusing title (It should've been called Goliath Jr.), this is a satisfying short that I'm surprised I haven't seen. I mean, it's important enough to have started the xeroficiation of Disney animation. Though, funny enough the tiger looks like a recolor of the mountain lion character Donald and Pluto often encountered in the early '50s.

    The recycling was on purpose, this film was the first to experiment the Xerox1 process of transferring pencil sketches to cel in its entirety, which was very useful for "101 Dalmatians" and the following classics. The short in a way is a milestone in the history of Disney animation as it would define the style of the pre-Renaissance era.
