"As Catholics, we are taught how to repeat ... old people in their deathbed remember the Our Father Prayer" ... ohmy that is so true. When i did my work experience in an aged care home, i'd keep company a group of ladies with different levels of dementia. And the Catholic ladies they still remember "Hail Mary ... Our Father" prayers ... maybe not the complete prayer but most words.
Hey Father! You are so Inspirational.I want to share something that I find helpful to my spiritual growth is for me when I awake, to offer my entire day to the Lord. This would include my exercise, my work, my relationships with others, as well as my misfortunes and negligence in seeking Him more deeply as I should. Then when I have more time for deeply contemplative prayer and intimacy with Jesus, I pick back up where I left off from the morning. I encourage others, to talk to Jesus throughout the day by incorporating your daily activities with Him. I have received many blessings from Him living this way. God bless you and your listeners!

The rosary hits the time factor no doubt--20 to 30 minutes for me, for an individual. Sure it's repeating, but something happens when you take your time with it which still takes 20 to 30 minutes; focus on the mysteries. I can't explain it well, Father probably can, but you definitely feel you spent time with the Lord after it, enough time; more than enough. And if you do it early, first fruits as Father Mike has said in other videos, you are so much more focused on the day. What you need to do, and more drive to do it. Plus more focus and ability to avoid sins. Then praying with someone else, rosary is a great prayer for that, too. I have learned through the Prayer and Life Workshops to rest in the Lord through contemplation. There are many forms of prayer recited prayers are one of them. The important thing to remember is that the objective is not to recite them automatically but to take each phrase and offer it to our Lord from our heart as if it were our own words. It is not right to say Catholics are not taught to pray they are taught to repeat. Perhaps you had a bad teacher but my mom tuaght me to Mean the Words, listen to the words your saying so even though its the same prayer I have memorized it is Prayer from the heart.
Glad that you that teaching when you were young but it is entirely fair to say that the vast majority of us Catholics are not taught to pray with connection. Especially in the context that Fr Mike is speaking into here which is modern day Ireland.
Again this guy represents the"new modern" Catholic priest. He speaks more like a Protestant than a Catholic. Although what he says is not untrue, he says it in a Protestant perspective. So I dont want to say he is lying but he fails to teach the Catholic perspective. Contemplative prayer is new age not Catholic prayer. Catholics need to learn and understand that our prayers and faith is perfect the way it is. It doesnt need to be " re-imagined."
Countless saints, doctors of the church, and church fathers would disagree with you. There’s nothing New Age about contemplative prayer, it’s been a Catholic practice since the early days of the Church (see St John Chrysostum and St Antony of the Desert) although one which is greatly misunderstood today. We’d highly recommend reading anything by St Teresa of Avila on prayer. “Contemplative prayer is nothing else than a close sharing between friends.” - St Teresa of Avila (16th Century)
Thank you for addressing some of my major concerns about personal prayer! For years I felt frustrated with rote prayers, and especially with the rosary, because I knew the words so well I didn’t need to think about them and my thoughts went wool-gathering all over the place, even though I wanted to be present when I prayed. About 18 months ago I got really frustrated because I spent a lot of time on social media but somehow couldn’t find time for regular prayer. Soon after, I discovered the YouCat app, which now helps me to start each day with God in spite of my short attention span, and a couple of channels like CTM which have been of great help. As a result, my prayer life has definitely changed for the better.
If the world would have more Father Mike's.. I believe there would be a whole lot more praying going on

Terberkatilah Hati Kudus Yesus.
Terberkatilah Hati Maria yang tak bernoda.
Terberkatilah Santo Yudas Tadeus.
Diseluruh bumi dan selalu disepanjang masa.
Amin.
Maybe Jesus wanted comfort fromGod the Father.
That's a lovely thought actually :)

“Contemplative prayer is nothing else than a close sharing between friends.”
- St Teresa of Avila (16th Century)
