Why does the music video give me the impression that this objectifies and stereotypes women?
Because you don’t understand the message
i didn't get that impression...
I totally get you.
Nzeru mulibe
It does. So much. The song literally says his woman wakes up before the cock crows to iron his clothes. As she's ironing, she's also boiling water for him to take a bath and all this is happening after she has already polished his shoes. She then prepares his breakfast and he goes to his workplace where everyone compliments him (I guess for the way he's looking). At lunch she brings him home-made food and she's a woman who rarely throws a fit for anything. It's a song about a man who "loves" his woman because of the way she takes care of him. Makes one wonder what kind of love is this that expects your woman to slave for you from wee hours while you're resting. And the fact that it was such a hit when I was in my teens says a lot about our Malawian culture and how so entrenched patriarchy is in our society.
