    That alarm going off just a moment after you said "If they detect us this campaign is literally over" and the pause after that is really comedy gold. And with 99% sudden strike chance... Unbelievable... Man you really jinxed it 😁

      I think it was because the rest of the fleet was in radar range (which, iiirc is the red circle around the town) so the instant the garrison made visual contact they immediately knew it was hostile.

    That attitude of "I'm not going down without a fight!" has given me some great stories. In my most recent game, two of my ships had been cut off from the fleet and surrounded, with the rest of my fleet narrowly avoiding getting spotted. The two ships were a stock Gladiator and a Harpy (Like a bigger Howler with ELINT, ECM, RADAR, and IRST).
    They didn't have any fuel so running wasn't an option. I tried getting the ships to hide and land in the desert, but a strike fleet began combing the area where they were last seen and spotted my ships. The Gladiator took a hit by a long range missile, then the first strike fleet attacked.
    I was sure these ships were lost, but I was determined to fight anyways. I loaded up the proxy fuze and began the fight. Somehow I took down all three ships with the Gladiator. Most of the armor was gone and I lost an engine, but I had won.
    There wasn't any time to salvage the fuel or anything before then next strike fleet was there. By some miracle I downed them all with that stock Gladiator.
    Every single piece of armor had been stripped away, only one gun functioned, most of the engines were gone, and EVERY REMAINING PART WAS RED. (Also it was on fire)
    Two strike fleets were downed by one damaged Gladiator. I had to sell the remains of the Gladiator and get the Harpy back to safety, but what I thought was going to be a total loss turned into a victory.

    I'm curious why the garrison in the unnamed city immediately triggered the silent strike alarm, was it in the air because of the Dangerous flag in Suva?

    • @EngineArc
      @EngineArc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      There's an invisible alert in a 1500km radius if you set off an alarm at a city. I was baffled when it happened in my game, too.
      From Wiki: "Once your location has been reported the city in question basically functions like a "silent" Local Alarm, complete with a 12 hour alarm in 1500km radius AFTER you leave the city which is NOT indicated by your alarm clock."

    The Screamer got caught because it didn't have movement orders and instead stopped and landed. At 18:15 you can see the game pause because the Screamer reached it's set destination, and after unpausing at 18:24 you see descending altitude numbers for the Screamer.

      My issue here is the only Hidden City I know about is very far south and I don't have the money, or the time, to get enough fuel to fly there. My situation right now is that staying in a city more than 20 hours will result in ballistic missiles and airstrikes hitting it.

    I know this video has been out for some time now so this coment may be missed.
    I think that chasing strike group uses a classic trick. They where not using there full speed untill you got confident you could kite them. That's when they turned it up to 11 to chase and catch you off guard.

      They for sure got me shocked and surprised. The other thing that could have happened is after damaging them they may have lost mass but kept their engines, which will cause their speed to increase. I like to think it is your suggestion though, makes the enemy a lot scarier!

  • @antonioussykas4140
    @antonioussykas4140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @orangeanything
    @orangeanything 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I know this is 4 months old but:
    I think the missile groups sudden speed increase can be explained by its missile launch at your fleet. If it launched a missile it most likely got significantly lighter as strat missiles are pretty heavy. This is reinforced by your noticing the missile launch almost immediately after your screamer got caught.

    The one time where you want more than three planes (or more rockets than the T7 can shoot in one run) is when the enemy can dodge or has extensive palash protection. The ships will overheat their engines or have their palash depleted, and then the second flight can finish them off.
    Edit: The howler debacle is exactly why I have a scout class with one gimballed engine. In the next update you could possibly just rotate statics to be able to retreat without losing thrust.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never again will I design a ship class without a gimballed engine! What a disaster!
      I like to launch planes in a 2's as it seams to restrict the enemy from launching a lot of sprints. I find with more than that they will fill the air with intercept missiles.
      Good point on Palash though! It's great protection from multiple air strikes.

  • @FarmHend
    @FarmHend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Add one little tracking radar (250 km) to your fast jammer scouts. As they are so fast enough so nobody can take them down, it can be good idea to turn them into the missile guiders.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was part of the plan for the them, I need to build a bigger chassis though as I also want them to have elint.

  • @gae_wead_dad_6914
    @gae_wead_dad_6914 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice! oh and with the airstrikes - it's almost never worth buying the big 320mm rockets. They just cost too much for what they do (even if they do hit)
    The best aircraft loadout for mid air interception are Supersonic jets armed with the smaller 120mm rockets, that way - if they dodge some of the rockets the first time (quite a few will still hit disregarding the size of the ship, even if it's the smallest) they will turn around and empty their load on a ship with a burnt out drive, So there's little chance of dodging it.
    This does leave your interceptors open to attack when they come out for another run if the enemy has loads of 37mm cannons/Prox fuzzes, but it's way more cost efficient and effective if your planes survive, usually 2 interceptors armed with 120mm rockets are enough to take out cruisers.

    • @gae_wead_dad_6914
      @gae_wead_dad_6914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      tl;dr 320mm rockets are shit considering how expensive they are. Missing one is like missing an entire volley of 120mm rockets almost.
      I actually just finished my Hard mode campaign with a score of 80k. Can't wait to compare to how i did, though i did savescum a few times...

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I never had a lot of luck with the 120mm but it sounds like I need to give them a try.
      I like to rely on the 250kg bombs. Or as one of my viewers called it 'The Sayedi Special'

    • @gae_wead_dad_6914
      @gae_wead_dad_6914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Phrosphor Yeah, 120mm give a bad impression when they're armed on an La-29
      They're a godsend when they're armed on T-7's vs small midair targets. Otherwise bombs are the way to go vs capital ships, but if the target is too nimble (like the heavy missile frigates in the video)- try that
      The 120mm rockets are so good on the T-7's that i sometimes accidentally wipe out 2 ships with a barrage instead of 1, but in the end - it's really all about the angle. If my ships come in from the opposite angle of the ship they're targeting - i just instantly retreat them and re-engage to get a better angle. Best angle, of course - is top down.

    • @gae_wead_dad_6914
      @gae_wead_dad_6914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Phrosphor Oh yes, i need to catch your streams, i've been watching the vids and kept enjoying them and liking each one, rarely anyone plays the game multi-fleet like you. I split my fleet in max 2 parts of aircraft carrier groups and play this as an aircraft carrier sim (Basically screening for the carriers like you would IRL with Cruisers for fuel and operations/missiles, destroyers for anti sub (frigate) action, frigates for fast attack boat (corvette) action, and i have a lighting with a skylark to collect the loot from a weakened garrison (1v1 usually)
      250kg bombs are a godsend against large, hulking, slow moving targets, but if the target is too fast - they're a waste. In that case - try 120mm rockets instead
      Usually the "too smal and nimble to hit with bombs" targets are transport escorts or garrisons, buuut... sometimes they're ones like in this video, where you only hit like 2 rockets out of 6
      Another reason the 340mm rockets suck is that - even if they DO hit - they do damage more to the surrounding area rather than burrow deep withing the ship, while every successive 120mm rocket hit keeps removing layers of ship until it gets to the fuel. 340mm is good for taking out radards/rockets/making the ship less effective overall, but 120mm is better for killing it.
