The first 5 seasons of FG were the absolute best. You couldn't predict what was going to happen next. Each joke was funnier than the last and the cut-a-ways were wildly hilarious.
The proof of a well done reference is when it can make you laugh without you knowing the context. I had no idea who Timer the Cheese Man was but I still found this skit hilarious.
Not like Family Guy today where they will just up and explain the joke. Has anyone here seen the Polaner All Fruit gag where they do the commercial shot by shot and then play the actual commercial cause they suspect everyone under age 40 wouldn’t get it? If that’s not contempt for your audience, I don’t know what is
I just love how when he stops singing, you can hear the fiddle abruptly stopping...like there is just so much thought into this one scene and idk why but the timing is hilarious
Bruh it's so funny watching Peter be all excited and comparing his excitement to meeting Timer the cheese guy, then the memory is actually a really bad memory of him waking peter up at 3am 😂
J-Dude Fact: Seth MacFarlane explained on the Season 4 DVD commentary he wanted to use Lennie Weinrib to voice Timer for a cutaway gag, but Weinrib was suffering from failing health when "Petarded" was being produced, and as MacFarlane explained, he "didn't remember doing it" after the recorded audio was played back for him later. In the end, Timer was voiced by Seth himself and Weinrib died about a year after "Petarded" first aired
I only remember him ever doing that, 'hanker for a hunk o cheese' one. What other PSAs did he ever do? And never knew his name was "Timer". Where'd that come from?
They tried getting Lennie Weinrib, who did the original voice, but by 2005, he was pretty ill, and couldn't remember ever doing the voice, anyway, so Seth just did it himself.
When I was 7 years old, Timer taught me how to make 12 frozen orange juice popcicles with just some OJ, toothpicks, plastic wrap and an ice-cube tray! Mom was pissed because I used all the OJ and wasted half the plastic wrap (that stuff is sticky!)... unfortunately, she didn't believe Timer was real either, and so that was the FIRST time I went to therapy.
My older brother used to do that for my and the rest of our siblings. He would do OJ, grape juice, fruit punch, Kool Aid, and other drinks frozen in the ice tray, with plastic wrap and tooth picks. We knew it was summer when he started doing it.
SUNSHINE ON A STICK! i also got in trouble for following Timer's advice from that PSA. fortunately, i only got yelled at -- i wasn't forced to go to therapy.

Fun (not really) fact: they did actually get the original voice actor for Timer the Cheese Guy Lennie Weinrib to reprise his role for this cutaway. Sadly his recording wasn’t used because Seth MacFarlane thought he sounded too old and hard to understand (Lennie Weinrib was suffering from health issues at the time and he couldn’t even remember voicing the character when they showed the footage back to him), so Seth MacFarlane did the voice himself instead

I honestly didn't know that he was made for public service announcements until later on in my life.
Yeah for some reason every parody of this character is in reference to the cheese PSA rather than any of the other stuff he was in, no clue why, maybe it was the most commonly re-aired one?
