    Thanks to Trevor Akerman for pointing out the Bighorn Sheep is actually a Barbary Sheep!

    Carlsbad Caverns National Park looks amazing. I also painted a portrait of a Scott's oriole.

    Ohhhh!!! Man, this was GREAT! Pardon me a moment while I indulge in a bit of nostalgia (again) because that SKY - and the sounds too... oh man, brings back a ton of memories for me. Desert sky in that part of the US is just not like anywhere else. I don't know for sure what bugs were making all the racket - my grandparents always said they were locusts. But that sound is one that I heard every summer day for so much of my childhood, and under that sky and with that landscape... I swear I could smell the surroundings. It makes me so happy y'all got to enjoy the Caverns!!! The bats are insane to watch, even more so than the bridge bats in Austin. Wonderful video!

    Nice video! Glad you enjoyed Carlsbad, if you’re in New Mexico in the fall or early winter definitely check out the Bosque del Apache for thousands of snow geese, Ross’s geese, Sandhill Cranes, and other waterfowl!

    I live in eastern NM myself, but am still a 3.5 hour drive from Carlsbad caverns. I try to get down to bird Rattlesnake Springs a few times a year. One of my favorite birding spots in NM. Glad you guys had a good time.

    New Mexico has more birds than one would believe. Seems everything around us is attributed to TX AZ and Calif. Though the birds live and migrate to all those places many are also in N M. Of course TX has some visitors rarely seen elsewhere I am glad to see you looking in this geographic area as well. Thank you. BTW, I have never even seen anything about the Audubon society in your area. You are actually the only birding site I watch regularly other than some bald eagle and osprey nests I watch and bird feeders. Those are static sites compared to your real birding explorations. Thank you for exposing us to the wonderful birding fun.

    Nice to see video/photos of specific birds. Been too busy exploring all the caves, identifying plants, and looking for cool critters like bats, tarantulas, scorpions, javelinas, Barbary sheep, etc.

    I didn't realize Cave Swallow rage extended into New Mexico! I kind of just think of them being in Texas and south Florida.

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought some bird feed from a local hardware store , I put on of the bags in a 5 gallon bucket ,and a lot of dust flew up ,I'm like I never seen that before . I didn't really look close at what was going on ,I filled my feeders and later on I noticed the birds were not feeding at the feeders ,so I checked them and the feed was like concrete. I took a closer look at the seeds and it looked like some bugs had their way with the seed. I never seen anything like it .Bad bird food. So if you ever see any dust in your bird food take it back where you got it from.

    While you guys were in New Mexico did you head over to Portal Arizona and go to Southfork Cave Creek .

      Derek and Ryan the main thing you want to see in portal is of course the elegant trogan and you see that at southfork Cave Creek but they're are lots of different places to go when you're there in portal check with some of the locals in the area Good man is Dave Jasper .

    Why don't they allow cameras during the bat show? Seems like a bizarre rule.

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It started as a “no flash rule” but people continued to use the flash, which could disturb the bats, so they just banned all of it. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/wbna12275177
