Excellent seat!! Good job, and awesome that you got right back on her and carried on! You truly are a gifted rider! And your camera lady did a great job too of filming! These training excercises are so important for young riders. Take care and thank you for sharing!!
Oh crazy River haha :') I love even when she's bucking and being fussy you stayed so centered and calm like it was no big deal! You know exactly how to handle a young excitable horse and it's great to see
Honestly this is one of my favourite channels. You are so talented and to have such confidence but hold such a gentle hand to these horses is just spectacular. You are really going to go far in your career, please keep going.
If I was you, I'd just ignore all these people telling you how to ride this horse because none of them have ever ridden River so I don't think any of them have the right to tell you how to ride the horse. In my eyes, you handled the situation amazingly and my instructor always tells me you always learn from the challenging ones.
Natalie Reynolds it is true . My riding instructor gave me the choice to ride a fresh horse or a quiet horse mammy made me pick Minnie the fresh pony coz it would make me a better Rider
Using the crop to force a young and unexperienced horse that shows fear and insecurity (which are natural instincts!) is not what I'd call trust. In fact, by this way her horse will never learn to trust her, cause whenever it's scared of something it'll expect pain.
Excellent video!! Green horses are naturally wary and need gentle and patient encouragement. Even with a fall the rider showed control. Both horse and rider are a credit to classic riding, well done.
You're such an inspirational rider to me 🏇🏇🏇 I don't know how you stay so calm when you ride 😊 👌You made me want to ride again and I have so thanks so much 😂
Yes, she really was fresh and quite a challenge. But you were wonderful in handling such a young horse. Well done !!! And she was not aggressive but just hyper active, did not want to throw you off but rather likes to be ridden by you. She will be a great partner to you and give you her support in future. a promising team!
She's beautiful, you were very still and calm :) props to ya for riding a recently broke warmblood out in the open not every horse person knows what that is like
nice to see someone handling a youngster so correctly. FINALLY someone opens out their hands when they begin to rear etc haha. She'll go very far in your hands. You learn more from the challenging ones ;)
I don't understand why people have disliked this! I think you handled her brilliantly, I currently have a youngster that has bonked me off and now threats to every time I ride her in the arena, it's harder then people think when you get the odd one that's 'difficult' lol I call it character! Well done I say and good luck in Dubai :) look forward to seeing updates
You did an awesome job staying so calm when river was bucking and rearing and you did the right thing by correcting him good job👍ignore all the people who are trying to tell you how to ride river when they probably never even rode him.
Fair play lauren, you ride her very sympathetically yet firm. Baba will learn in no time! Have to say though my heart was in me mouth after you fell and she kicked out a little. Bit of a close shave!
Love how you controlled that the whole entire time, im just wondering maybe she doesnt like that bit cause she still is green. Just an observation I noticed in the whole thing.
Think you're doing great with her. I think River is a beautiful mare. That's really good for her only being ridin a few times and she looks so comfy ^_^. I get to get back on my horse whose been laid up for 2 years he probably gunna act just like River.
I don’t like to read comments that tell you how to ride. Your saying your giving “tips” when your not your being horrible. I read a comment that said “look what your doing to his mouth”. There was nothing wrong with it, he was sticking his head up and all the girl was doing was shorting her reigns to prepare her for what he’s about to do next. Please, if you’ve never ridden that horse, then don’t be telling her how to ride. She does what she feels is best and safe for the horse and you can keep your own information to yourselves because not everyone needs that negativity. I have a 17hh Draught thoroughbred who shares a bond with me, and the amount of times I’ve got messages saying “Keep your heels down” “shorten your reigns”. You don’t know my horse, don’t be telling me how to ride him if you’ve never ridden him yourself. Same goes for this girl and her horse.
Not telling her how to RIDE, she rides fine. Her reins ARE too short, and this is the wrong bit for this horse. This horse is DANGEROUS, and she's not controlling it well at all and doing NOTHING to correct VERY....EXTREMELY bad behavior.
I think this is just the "sensitive" phase where some youngsters "learn" to be difficult because they succeed in it if not handled properly... so well done! She'll be great in a year's time :)
I am currently in the process of breaking and training a long yearling. The first few days of riding he bucked me off each day but after a few weeks he got better. He has probably grown a hand in the 6 weeks I have been training him.
I have to say I don't think the aids are to blame necessarily. Just a suggestion. She doesn't react each time the rider does it is random speeding up slowing down, dodging, ears back and forth continuously. At one point the rider used lots of leg and the whip lightly after she halted and she didn't react except to go on but then she resumed acting up. She doesnt just look frisky and green she looks genuinely freaked out by something or in pain. And she didn't dump the rider in the most violent way she even looked down and then left rsther sadly as if it was a last resort to say can't you see I can't handle this? It may just be me but I dont think it looks normal.
Well done young lady first off you got a full cheek snaffle complete control you're encouraging when needing to be you're keeping your heels down your knees in the correct position you're doing awesome ride on
I actually think, and I believe you did an exceptional job. He seemed nervous, but energetic. I see you brought out a buddy for him. You did everything you could. That last buck, yah, everyone in this chat would have fallen off too.
ah even your fall was graceful : ) I'm back riding after a few years away and I know my first fall is probably going to be an epic 'sack of potatoes' job : / River is beautiful, thanks for the vid K
Wow...lots of experts here...all horses are different and at different points in the training process...the rider did very well....better than me, in fact. I would have been tempted to get in the wind and haul ass for a little while. This rider maintained control. Nice looking horse...will be a good one.
I thought she went well and was great going first towards things. Looking forward to following her progress. Would love to hear how you get on transporting the horses so far when you go to Dubai. Good Luck
I though it was great that you got back on haha I would of been scared of getting back on after that but I Spode your a lot more confident with riding than I am, I have seen newer videos of river and she's coming on fab! ☺️☺️
*COMMENT WAS FOR PREVIOUS VIDEO OF MARE BUCKING IN COVERED ARENA. That's not naughty, it's pain - most likely in either her reproductive organs or spine. This mare needs a chiropractor/vet! Watch how uneven she moves behind and how her hind legs consistently take much smaller steps than her front. Also facial expression shows pain, not being cantankerous. For those who say "She worked out of it", she didn't, evident by flank sweat and no change to the hind cadence. She merely decided to give in as opposed to keep fighting.
I just know she's going to get better, :) and you're doing great! hope you have fun in Dubai! can't wait to see more videos, as we're all excited :) will you be going to Ireland a lot when you move to Dubai? can't wait to see River and Boo and all your adventures in Dubai!
The bit is pissing her off, that's why she's chewing the whole time and tossing her head. Get rid of it and I'll bet you'd have less problems with her.
I think River has been bought to resell, and alot of people will refuse to ride a horse bitless because they feel they feel horses need bits to control them.
Francesca Reaney Very true, which I find funny because I've seen many horse accidents caused because of bit use, such as this one. Even 'soft hands' or 'light pressure' causes pain in the horses mouth. I've also seen literally ALL types of horses go bitless in ALL horse sports out there, including driving. It can be done, problem is most people are either to insecure or to uneducated to go bitless with their horse.
she's also young, and may simply not use to the pressure yet. i had my horse go bitless once, and she hated it. she really didn't like the pressure being on her entire face, but i know another horse that absolutely LOVES it. i find it really depends on the horse and what pressure they like more. Hailey goes nice and soft in a bitless bridle. penny gets all stressed out and wont settle. i find it really depends. but that is simply my opinion. if river learns to except the bit, which will take time, then awesome but if she prefers bitless, then that;s cool too. sorry if my spelling or grammar is off. im dyslexic. :)
spacemonkey123100 You're telling me your horse hated you riding her in a halter? That's bitless in my book. Hackamores are just as bad as bits and that 'pressure' you're talking about is pain. Calling it 'pressure' doesn't change the fact that this mare is showing pain reactions to the slightest bit 'pressure'. This mare is talking. Screaming, actually. Yet everyone would rather explain away her attempt at communication verses actually listening.
You are a very good rider. A lot of the people commenting here have a few riding lessons under their belt and think they know it all or are Americans used to riding trail horses that never go faster than a walk. In western riding they have very little contact with the horses mouth and are oftentimes use curb bits with a chin strap or chains, they see no slack in the reins and believe you are pulling on the bit. They do not understand continual very soft contact with the horses mouth. Btw; I learned to ride in England 55 years go and have lived in the U.S. for 45 years.
Darn that button. It looks to me that for the most part your hands are fairly soft however it looks like this mare has never been taught to give to pressure you need to do some groundwork. And get her flexing laterally when she refuses to go forward make her move sideways make her move in circles. She has to be taught to give to pressure first.
Ooooo hope you're ok. She does listen good, but has an attitude xD So does the horse I ride. My first time ever falling off was a few months ago. She's the alpha mare, and I made her canter, so she bucked and I didn't go off, then she was like "NOPE YOU'RE GOING OFF" and bucked again and I went off xD
Good sat! Bur I have a question.....you took Boo to calm her down, right? Wouldn't it be easier for River isch she sees Boo? And she dont'n have to go first. I see that you did this in some situation, but i'm really intrested in this question :) Greetings from switzerland :) and keep going!
thank you :) as they are the only two horses on the property its best to work them around one another.. otherwise its a very noisy and unsettling affair for both the horses and myself, River actually prefers if Boo is behind her, she tend's to 'lean' on Boo if she's in front haha :)
Ah--dutch warmblood mare. Explains everything ;) It looked as if she just flat out did not want to listen--mare moments ;) Glad you and she were ok. Has she not been on the property long? Could be why she was fussy in going out---I also have to commend your videographer---to have a horse in hand AND video that well----huge applause!
haha thats my friend Shauna (savvylover211) shes great with the camera! thank you, i think its mare and baby moments haha, shes only been in ireland a few weeks :)
Sounds about right--and warmbloods mature at a much slower rate mentally--at 3 or 4, she's still sperm and ovum mentally ;) (sorry, a joke I always use when working with the WBs at a very young age).
I wonder if she was hurting somewhere, in heat, belly ache. She gave you lots of warning before she really stated that things weren't right. Lovely horse!
thank you. she's not hurting, she's just very green, she's 3 and a half and full of energy, plus she's only been ridden about 6 times, this was her second time out in open spaces too!
So so soooo well ridden, why does she have fluro (sorry can't spell) boots on? is there a reason cause she's young? just wondering :))) she's going to be such great wee horse once she matures up! :D she's gorg
I admire anyone that has the confidence to work young horses or problematic horses who put themselves in danger. However, we have so much information & knowledge at our disposal these days to learn from & it’s important for us to stay humble & have a desire to improve, no matter what level we’re at. One of my biggest lessons was from a 12yr old girl who knew nothing about horses yet she taught me a lifetime of knowledge. Teaching a horse softness & lateral flexion as well as disengaging the hindquarters before going onto the next level will give you the tools to control the horses feet & redirect its mind & energy. Allowing a horses attention to go where it wants to & then rewarding it with rest when it gets spooky, gives all control & power to the horse to make its own decisions which ultimately can end in disaster! Where the ear goes, the mind goes... then where the mind goes the feet go! Make sure the horse knows it’s where you want to go & that where it wants to go, is very uncomfortable... & don’t allow a horse to start making its own arrangements. Keep it Real !!
lol been waiting for this , she always looked strong willed. did she drop the shoulder ? looks unlucky fall more than anything with the twist. shes getting the idea tho , clever girl . well ridden
Hi Lauren I know this is a very old video and you don’t have river anymore but my 5yo has started doing this exact thing and I can’t seem to fix it. I haven’t been able to find another horse that does this exact thing i.e. arching their back and shaking/reaching their head if you try to use and contact. He also bounces up/little rears like her. She also seems to have a bouncey/floaty walk like mine which doesn’t seem to help. Do you have any ideas to help him over it?/what did you do with River?
if i were you, i would have a good physiotherapist check her back. if you watch her tail closely, you see that she's not wearing it straight but with a little angle to the side..this is a sign of discomfort and is usually related to the back. in my opinion, it is generally a good thing to check your horse's back when you start riding, as well as check the teeth before putting in a bit.
Shelley Cram thats the one thing you never want to do is get off or take them back home if they dont want to pass something as they will learn from that and know what to do in the future everytime you ride that horse
People who are saying don't use a crop on her, her horse acts up until she uses a crop half the time, it's a "No, bad." What is she suppose to do? "No river don't do that bad girl"
Excellent seat!! Good job, and awesome that you got right back on her and carried on! You truly are a gifted rider! And your camera lady did a great job too of filming! These training excercises are so important for young riders. Take care and thank you for sharing!!
I love how calmly you deal with this horse as a youngster, it's not surprising that she has done incredibly well with you.
You are literally the perfect rider. Your horse is playing up, rearing and bucking and you don't even move! Riding goals right there 😍😍😍
Oh crazy River haha :') I love even when she's bucking and being fussy you stayed so centered and calm like it was no big deal! You know exactly how to handle a young excitable horse and it's great to see
thanks so much :)
No she didn't.
LoveMaverik no she doesn’t she kept hitting him with her legs and using a really strong bit!
Horse LoverHer horse is probaly an exicited one
my opinion
not really.
Honestly this is one of my favourite channels. You are so talented and to have such confidence but hold such a gentle hand to these horses is just spectacular. You are really going to go far in your career, please keep going.

Very true
Natalie Reynolds if you don't fall of you don't learn
you did well ...good for you
That is so true I agree wiv u
I love how your horse did NOT want to go any closer but when you squeezed her on she did!! That shows how much river trusts you😍and good job!!!
Using the crop to force a young and unexperienced horse that shows fear and insecurity (which are natural instincts!) is not what I'd call trust. In fact, by this way her horse will never learn to trust her, cause whenever it's scared of something it'll expect pain.
She's looking lovely, small hiccups are all part of young horses 😆 it's lovely to see her develop, well done!:)
thanks so much :)
You're such an inspiring rider, thank you for sharing. I LOVE watching your videos. You are BORN to ride and train, excellent job!
thank you so much :)
Excellent video!! Green horses are naturally wary and need gentle and patient encouragement. Even with a fall the rider showed control. Both horse and rider are a credit to classic riding, well done.
You're such an inspirational rider to me 🏇🏇🏇 I don't know how you stay so calm when you ride 😊 👌You made me want to ride again and I have so thanks so much 😂
haha thank you so much :)
Alice Kwee omg how did u get that emoji!
Yes, she really was fresh and quite a challenge.
But you were wonderful in handling such a young horse.
Well done !!!
And she was not aggressive but just hyper active, did not want to throw you off but rather likes to be ridden by you.
She will be a great partner to you and give you her support in future.
a promising team!
thank you so much :) i cant wait until shes older haha
She's beautiful, you were very still and calm :) props to ya for riding a recently broke warmblood out in the open not every horse person knows what that is like
She's absolutely stunning! Well done so far, I'm sure she'll be amazing! Already looking very good! X
Absolutely beautiful horse and you ride her so well. I'm sure she's going to go far when she's older, and maybe mellows out a little. Bless her :)
nice to see someone handling a youngster so correctly. FINALLY someone opens out their hands when they begin to rear etc haha. She'll go very far in your hands. You learn more from the challenging ones ;)
haha i agree, I'll learn lots from her haha thank you
Very well ridden, nice too see someone react nicely when a horse starts to misbehave and not yank on there mouth, will both go very far!! X
I don't understand why people have disliked this! I think you handled her brilliantly, I currently have a youngster that has bonked me off and now threats to every time I ride her in the arena, it's harder then people think when you get the odd one that's 'difficult' lol I call it character! Well done I say and good luck in Dubai :) look forward to seeing updates
thanks so much, got to love the youngsters haha
I love when you lightly tap her with the crop she tenses up, all like WHAT HAVE YOU DONE 😂
hahaha i know, shes like how dare you!
HippieSolitude hi I'm Abram in free state I want 2 teach my horse
You did an awesome job staying so calm when river was bucking and rearing and you did the right thing by correcting him good job👍ignore all the people who are trying to tell you how to ride river when they probably never even rode him.
River is such a brat I love it. She's so spunky. She's going to be an AMAZING mount someday
Not been on youtube for so long and just seen you have a new horsie! Good luck with her Lauren, she's gorgeous x
Well done Lauren !! I feel proud of you !! I love these vids because it makes me think it's not just me ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
ohhhh river she will do so well in the future. Well sat by the way
thanks a lot haha :)
Fair play lauren, you ride her very sympathetically yet firm. Baba will learn in no time! Have to say though my heart was in me mouth after you fell and she kicked out a little. Bit of a close shave!
Way to stick with her! I know with our babies it gets frustrating but you're doing a wonderful job! :) Glad to hear you're okay!
thanks a lot :) babies are fun haha
I love how Boo gets into the shot and she's like BOO!!! BOO!!!!!
hahaa good old boo :)
3:12 Boo’s like “Hold up, what’s happening?. Ooh camera, Hayyy ;)”
Love how you controlled that the whole entire time, im just wondering maybe she doesnt like that bit cause she still is green. Just an observation I noticed in the whole thing.
River is looking in great condition, can't wait to see more of her! She reminds me of my tb in open spaces.. except he is 14 haha
Think you're doing great with her. I think River is a beautiful mare. That's really good for her only being ridin a few times and she looks so comfy ^_^. I get to get back on my horse whose been laid up for 2 years he probably gunna act just like River.
Why are you using the stick all the time without giving any release?

Same goes for this girl and her horse.
Sienna Strawberryhill there’s no “g” in reins. Unless, of course, you’re talking about the Queen.
Not telling her how to RIDE, she rides fine. Her reins ARE too short, and this is the wrong bit for this horse. This horse is DANGEROUS, and she's not controlling it well at all and doing NOTHING to correct VERY....EXTREMELY bad behavior.

thank you ,i hope so :)
I’ve ridden so many horses for the first for friends. And they always gotta see just how far they can push you😂. I ❤️ a challenge 👍🏻
That’s happens to me before on my Clydesdale Bob. He is older now so he is good.
I am currently in the process of breaking and training a long yearling. The first few days of riding he bucked me off each day but after a few weeks he got better. He has probably grown a hand in the 6 weeks I have been training him.
Was that a Pac-Man halter I think I spotted? Cool! Lol Beautiful horses by the way.
She is bouncy and fresh, but she will be a star in a couple of years ;) That's how every horse starts like! :)
thank you :)
I think she doesn't like the bit.

She is an amazing horse !! Your lucky to have her !!

You sat so well! I don’t have the balls to ride a rearer!
*COMMENT WAS FOR PREVIOUS VIDEO OF MARE BUCKING IN COVERED ARENA.
That's not naughty, it's pain - most likely in either her reproductive organs or spine. This mare needs a chiropractor/vet!

Also facial expression shows pain, not being cantankerous. For those who say "She worked out of it", she didn't, evident by flank sweat and no change to the hind cadence. She merely decided to give in as opposed to keep fighting.
Finally! Someone who understands and doesn't just brush it off saying they are fresh! please go get her checked for kissing spine or others
And that's why I love well trained "aged" geldings, well done.
Herd bound/barn sour/insecure young horse. Why was there no lead horse to follow at a brisk trot away from the barn?
I just know she's going to get better, :) and you're doing great! hope you have fun in Dubai! can't wait to see more videos, as we're all excited :) will you be going to Ireland a lot when you move to Dubai? can't wait to see River and Boo and all your adventures in Dubai!

you stayed calm and handled the situation perfectly x
You have more guts than me! Keep up the good work and good luck in Dubai- my aunt and uncle live there and it is surreal! xxx
When you tapped her she was like:you.shouldn't.have.done.that!
This reminds me of my mare so much! She does this when she’s napping!

love to see how much weight you've put on her :) doing very well with her, i see! keep up the good work x
thanks :) finally her ribs arent visible anymore!! x
You're such a great rider!! I love all your videos :)
Is there a reason why she is behaving this way? Anything to do with the saddle or bit?
she's probably just green

Well sat, glad you didn't tug when they reared, but actually opened your hands
I know this is old but you kept such good control of t he horse!
It's like she could sense something there! Horses certainly have a psychic awareness.

aww love River. Is there any tips you could give me about backing and riding a young horse that is excitable?

That fall looked painful! glad you didn't get hurt
I think she handled the situation very well 👍🏻
So so soooo well ridden, why does she have fluro (sorry can't spell) boots on? is there a reason cause she's young? just wondering :))) she's going to be such great wee horse once she matures up! :D she's gorg
Very well handeled! Very impressive!
Keep it Real !!
gorgeous horse and great patient rider!!
Horse: Im gonna teach her a lesson n buck her off; I hate this stuff...
Rider: You keep this up and you will be horsemeat in a can very soon....
lol been waiting for this , she always looked strong willed. did she drop the shoulder ? looks unlucky fall more than anything with the twist. shes getting the idea tho , clever girl . well ridden
thank you :) yeh she dropped the shoulder haha
Good to see you were not hurt (I hope) in the fall.
Lauren, so brave to take her outside on her second ride EVER! She actually did well considering :) Lovely mare. Is she yours then?
Would love to know how she is doing after five years have passed?
hrsnrnd10 she’s just had another foal x
That is a great example of a barn soured horse.
Do you have any ideas to help him over it?/what did you do with River?
the horse hates this bite - check her teeth
I love River! Rather prancey I like a little challenge one in a while 😂 beautiful horse 🐴🐴🐴🐴
That's some really good riding on your part. River looks like a rodeo horse when she bucks!!
if i were you, i would have a good physiotherapist check her back. if you watch her tail closely, you see that she's not wearing it straight but with a little angle to the side..this is a sign of discomfort and is usually related to the back. in my opinion, it is generally a good thing to check your horse's back when you start riding, as well as check the teeth before putting in a bit.
Good job for staying on I would have been off like in a sec great job
Shelley Cram thats the one thing you never want to do is get off or take them back home if they dont want to pass something as they will learn from that and know what to do in the future everytime you ride that horse
I've just realised how old the post is. I wonder how you are both doing now.
I have a horse named river and she is a three year old gypsy cob and has never been ridden
People who are saying don't use a crop on her, her horse acts up until she uses a crop half the time, it's a "No, bad." What is she suppose to do? "No river don't do that bad girl"
The only way is horsemanship that your horse understand what you want!!
Took her a while, but she finally figured out how to move to get you off her back!
where do you ride because i live in ireland too and im a huge fan of your videos and what you, you're an exceptional rider!
