Man I remember having jam sessions there. I was from Hawaii but all the Hawaii boys and everyone on graves second floor would jam out with guitars, banjos, violins, mandolins. Good times. We were a rowdy bunch and we would even play dodgeball on the second floor one hallway vs. the other hallway. Miss those days

Lol, I literally typed in another comment here that my memories at BJU are like war memories. They're pretty awful memories, spotted with just a few good ones.

The following is from their student handbook. Not kidding. "Students are not to attend a movie of
any rating in a public theater during a semester in which they are enrolled.
This includes when away from campus overnight (except for spring break). In addition, students are to avoid displaying on-campus any pictures or objects promoting movies rated above PG-13."

It's SO much worse than people even realize. The campus is a surveillance state, in the name of religion. They do their best to set traps for everyone and take almost childlike glee when they catch you breaking the rules.

I would drive one of my roommates from Graves off campus just so he could smoke cigarettes. We would just find an empty field or lot and he'd pass the time just smoking and strolling. He'd roll the windows down in the car on the way back and spray cologne on himself, lol. It would have been expulsion if he was caught, but the rules become unbearable at some point. I think anybody who attends BJU without ever having broken a major rule is probably a coward or can't think for themselves. Anyways, I was slowly turning into an atheist while on campus and just didn't care anymore. It's so strange the experiences people have at this college, and it's so unpleasant to remember it, it's almost like war. The only positive memories were when I took control and didn't give a damn about the people running it, or what they thought God thought of me. The campus is crawling with hypocrites. My own counselor got arrested for having sex with a minor at the academy, so go figure. If you're at this college, have fun and get kicked out. Your parents will be shocked and mad but they'll get over it. 10 years down the road, you won't give a damn and you'll be happy you didn't let this place control your life.

Sorry you chose to go there. Many kids attended simply going there because someone else made that decision for them. I loved my time there and was my own person as an older towny student. I worked and went to classes and church. I didn't have time for mischief or wasted activities, and have lived a very successful life living by all the standards I learned at BJU, and the Bible. I raised my kids the same way and two are doctors, and one is a fighter pilot, Captain in the US Air force. God is Good! The Biblical Christian life is a continual amazemenesus! Prayers!

Haha neat -- I'm a grad myself, and I have generally fond memories of the largely misunderstood (though not completely) Institution...good place overall.

I have a lot of fond memories as well! Many of my best friends went there and I'm friends with some current faculty too. The theater of this video took some folks off guard when we did it, but it was nothing more than that.

Sadly Brother Oliver, you never got it. You are a disgrace to the University. You were a coward to stay and not leave if you didn't agree with the tenets of the institution and now bash it. I went at age 22 and loved and cherished every minute of my time there graduating 36 years ago. I continue to pray for the greatest institution for the development of someone who truly follows the Word of God. Most of the rules are for practical purposes and if one is there for the right reasons, will see those moral and practical reasons. Christians are here to serve God and find peace and joy in that living. My life is blessed far beyond I could have ever imagined following Jesus and his word with the foundations I developed while at BJU. Pray God continues to bless that University.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your thoughts / experience. However, there’s a lot of poor assumptions made here-and I sense you made the comment from a place of frustration.
I did actually leave, and not stay, because I wanted to pursue a career path that I felt wasn’t overly conducive there.
And I actually don’t bash the university, nor does the video. I have so many fond memories there and some of my closest friends to this day are alumni or staff of the university.
I hope you found some fun watching the video. There’s no negativity here, nor is there meant to be. I don’t fully appreciate some of the things in your comment, but I appreciate you taking the time to watch!

Funny, I came away from this video impressed with the level of respect that Brother Oliver maintained for a University with such public shortcomings and poor decisions.

You are being very unreasonable. Brother Oliver is giving their listeners information through their investigative reporting. They are engaging in responsible and ethical journalism which is not only protected by the first amendment, but is a critical block in the foundation of any society that cherishes freedom and liberty. Brother Oliver are great American patriots who clearly love our Constitution and their fellow countrymen very much.
I don't who you are, but you're not a true American.

Do you think the administration at Bob Jones University would allow you on their campus to make this video if they knew about it? I don't think so. Yet, you used them to promote a commercial recording. Then you, by your sarcastic implications, try and preach to them about being too strict.
