The EMCO Unimat is a very old lathe from Austria, ca. 1960. It is very hard to get a good EMCO. I was able to get an EMCO Maximat built in 1963 last year, very good condition and very expensive, but the price is worth it. From the mid 1970, these machines were only built in Korea and China, unfortunately no longer so good and yet so expensive.
Looks good! I am planning to get a unimat 3. If I get it I will buy this! BTW what is your experience with unimat 3? I need something small and portable but will mostly be doing aluminum, brass maybe a bit of steel.
I got myself a Unimat-3 some 30 years ago and still use it to this day. It is fine for brass and aluminium. It will also do mild steel but needs a lot of patience as it cuts it very slowly and you need to pause from time to time for the motor to cool down. You also need to make sure you use tools with a small cutting surface as it chatters otherwise. It also has several accessories available such as a milling attachment, dividing head, thread cutting gears and so on. It is great for making very small things accurately as the alignment is excellent. It has aged well and works almost like it was new except just one thing, the bearings of the milling attachment.
@@listerdave1240 If you remove the milling attachment's bearings from time to time and fill it with lithium grease, you should have no problems. Many users neglect this. Unfortunately, many people think that the milling bed is ball bearing and neglect the maintenance. EMCO designed it this way to gain precision. I am very satisfied.

Thé Emco 3 was released in 1980.
@@rozinant1237 If you have one from cast Aluminium thats a newer one, the old types are from cast iron and very heavy.
@@hdl4259 Unimat 3 is constructed from cast Iron. You must be thinking of Unimat 4.

Unimat 3 and its tools are very useful tools. You won't regret it.

@@listerdave1240 what are the symptoms of the milling bearing wearing out? Does the spindle runout increase?

Modify for sherline?
Of course it can be done. But I don't own a Sherline lathe. I would love to have it. I can't, as I can't take the measurements.
