I have owned an 07 S550 for going on 4 years now. The astounding thing to me is the overall build quailty and quality of materials. With 140k miles, the leather is nearly flawless and looks better than anything with 50k miles. You get used to the location of the cruise stalk, but honestly even now, I still push it every once in a while when reaching for the blinker. The sport/Comfort modes basically works like this. From a stop, the car will start out in second gear when in comfort. This is also good for winter driving. So, you were very astute in your observation about sport mode being faster off the line. That’s because it’s in the lowest gear. I do disagree with the trunk grade. This trunk is huge. Someone should look up the cubic area of it compared to others. I think you’d be amazed. Overall very nice review of an excellent car. Right now, 07’s are selling for $8-$11k. That’s somewhere around 10% of the original cost. I’d highly recommend one, but be prepared to spend a little more for maintenance. These cars aren’t for everyone, but if you can swing it, buy one. Oh, and don’t slam the door, there’s no need too.
John Yingling I’m not surprised of the strong quality, I was very impressed with the overall opulence of the S-Class, and as you said the leather was tremendous, and it’s easily the most comfortable car I’ve driven before. I appreciate the information about the various driving modes, that makes a lot more sense now. I also understand the disagreement of the trunk score, while the S550 has a large trunk, it isn’t as large as something like an Escalade/Navigator, giving it a 6, but I definitely understand your point. As far as buying one, I would enjoy owning one, for it oozes prestige and comfort, but unfortunately I don’t have funds at the time, maybe in a few years. And I didn’t mean to slam the door, that was an accident, I’m used to the heaviness of my F-150’s doors. Thank you for watching and the feedback, I appreciate it!
John Yingling i’m looking at an 08, is the maintenance terrible? that is my one concern (other then mpg but oh well) I don’t want to be spending thousands of dollars all the time fixing stuff
Bubba J, honestly it’s not horrible if you can stay away from the dealer. I’m not a mechanic by any means, but with the help of TH-cam, I’ve been able to fix the few things that have come up. I had to replace the air ride pump recently. Took 30 minutes and cost $260 for the pump. Another thing I have found is that if you buy genuine OEM parts, not Mercedes parts, you’ll save a ton of money. For instance I had to replace the ignition coil on cylinder 8 a year ago. MB part was $70. I bought a Bosch for $39. Guess what, Bosch makes them for Mercedes. The other myth people believe is that only MB dealers can work on them. Most good mechanics can do most things to a Mercedes. I’d say that if you can get a great deal on a good one, you’ll be very happy. I paid cash for mine and decided that I’d keep it as long as annual repair costs are less than payments for a new car, which they have been so far.
I am driving this 2008 model right now with only 111,000 miles on it. The styling is timeless and I get looks all the time. Most people think my model is a 2012 to 2014 although it's a 2008 model. It's still very quiet and the ride and power is still excellent. I love this car but will upgrade to a newer model within the next few years.
rodmcd69 I’m glad to hear that! I understand why you get looks, the S-Class’s design is an eye catcher and it holds its look very well as you said. The S-Class was one of my favorite cars I’ve ever reviewed, and I hope your next S-Class provides as good an experience as your current one. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
This was my very first car as a University student. I didn't know much about cars and I just bought a very good second hand which had 123k km on the dash. The old man who had it really did take good care of it. I just bought it for when I go home in December for holidays because I'd be going back by road to my country with my sister. It always was a beautiful experience. I still have the car, as a collectable ofc but once in a while on date nights we go with it with my wife.
He must have it in “C” or comfort mode. It’s not at all “sluggish “ off the line in “S” or sport mode. Keep in mind it’s almost 400 hp. You step on it, it throws your head back...
Thanks for the review. I was kinda surprised at the absence of the luxurious rear seat features such as reclining, heated & cooled rear seats, rear refrigerator. Full control panel on the rear central arm rest, auto rear side windows auto curtains. The five speakers to each door. Then it dawned on me🤔 OH, this is the US of A, so most owners would be front seat, self driven ones. Is this correct??
Jaswant Sokey Yeah I kinda thought the same thing when I first got in the S-Class as well, almost a little taken back by the “basic ness” of the rear seats. But you’re definitely correct, most owners are probably front seat self driven ones. The fact it was a 2009 has a somewhat slight reason as to the absence of stuff in the rear, but still a very nice car. Also thank you for watching.
It depends what options you get; if you get a simple s550 they focus on comfort and style, however if you get the S63 or a good option package from new you can get massaging seats, ventilated seats, etc.
Really well spoken young man..I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers as you do a very good review..aside from the repeated use of certain words may come across as being a tad bit pretentious but I don't see it like that myself at all..
You are dead wrong about the acceleration of this car. It will get to 60 under 6 seconds and do the quarter in the 13's. The car you drove may have problems. Also, do you know about the paddle shifter buttons on the inside of the steering wheel?
Ducatisti Forza I don’t know, I oftentimes don’t in my reviews, sorry about that. Let it be a lesson learned and that I start doing that for future reviews. Thank you for the feedback and for watching!
Well one or two big things here, he doesn’t know the car he’s driving it was a four Matic, it’s four-wheel-drive, I have a right hand drive two wheel drive, when you tap into that big boy motor this thing really flies in sports mode, and the suspension drops the car down onto the road, completely transforming the steering, The computer in the boot alters a whole range of sensors on the vehicle,
@@tommyegan1643So is the UK model . I have a 2006 S500 but it has the 5.5 lump. It's fantastic! What a piece of engineering. It's so refined yet a beast in sports mode .

Peter Kobasa, I was messing with you about the door slam. But I do play the how softly can I close the door game.
John Yingling I know haha, all in good nature. If I owned a luxury sedan I would probably do the same, adds to the fun of it.

Hy, What where the challenges you had with the s550 was it easy to maintain? Did it give you any serious problem, and was the parts expensive?
Let me know when ur ready to sale that car?
Surprised you have less than 1,000 subscribers. You did an excellent job. Keep up the good work. Thank you for the information.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!
I was watching videos about this W221 MB for I think 3 months now. Two days I bought a 3.0 173kw S 320 Long wheelbase. I love the car.

The thing you called the remote is the Bluetooth module
That star is a favorites button you can use it for anything you assign it to.

Jaswant Sokey makes it easier to change the fuel pump and filter :). Who cares about those rear guys

S550 the only benz that looks nice with nice big rims
Brilliant!
One thing that I really wanted to see was the engine. Why did you forget to show us the engine in this behemoth of a car????

Whats the price pls
ma ad I believe it’s $13-17,000 last I checked, if it’s still for sale. If you check Butler Autos website you can contact them.
Thanks
Bluetooth module in center armrest not a remote lol.
S550 doesn't mean 5.5 L engine, S550 means US spec only. All other countries get S500 which is the same car.
The US model is a 5.5L engine genius
