    5:40 A very similar incident occurred in 2015 when someone stepped out from behind a bus directly into the path of an on-coming car and in that instance she was unfortunately hit. That case went all the way up to the Supreme Court which ruled that the driver was at fault for not anticipating that a pedestrian might step out from behind the bus to cross the road. So well done to you for anticipating it.

    7:29 on street parking rarely benefits trade anyway. If i think of all the places I shop, if I go by car, I rarely expect to park right next to the shop I wish to visit. In Kent I know of almost of no town centre where I can park near any shops I want to visit, even if the centre is not pedestrianised. That's been the case for decades. Shops suffer due to high rents and internet, on street parking has almost nothing to do with it.
    And emergency vehicles usually cope fine with cycle lanes, even with batons, as they do with any kind of narrow lane common in the UK. Before the lanes were constructed the emergency services had to be legally consulted and any issues taken into account, otherwise the lanes wouldn’t have been built or they would have been adapted.

      There is a very low rate of collision at these kind of bus stops according to easily googable data. Possibly leads to safer interactions between pedestrians and cyclists as they are usually fairly visible through often transparent bus shelters, as opposed to the danger of passing a bus and dealing with pedestrians who may shoot out from in front of a bus suddenly.

    The red route parking bays on the A24 were done away with by Khan in the LTN mania of the mid-2020 post-lockdown era. He also introduced the stupid turning bans for the side roads off the A24 in Tooting. Despite him being supposedly a local boy and the former MP for the area, local businesses did not like it as it drastically reduced their passing trade. I remember travelling through there at that time (this was when a lot of the side roads were also blocked off, again because of LTN mania) and it was gridlock. I never thought of how the poles and obstructive bus stops made it difficult for emergency vehicles to get through; they are just thinking of making it easier to cycle and nothing else.

    • @douglasoglu
      @douglasoglu 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the point. On some routes planners will have good reason to want to de-prioritise motor traffic in favour of others. Having bus stops next to central bollards prioritises pedestrians crossing after/before using public transport by slowing traffic down. It's not necessarily bad design just because drivers don't like it, especially if the whole point is to de-prioritise driving.

At the end of the High Street where you can go straight on or to the right, if you go straight on it changes to 30 miles an hour, if you go round to the right towards the level crossing there's no signs telling you it's still 20 or it changes to 30 now if you're coming from the Bucklands it's 40 miles an hour then down to 30 as it approaches the High Street and of course you only can go to the left towards the Railway. So it's like both of those lanes going the same direction once 30 miles an hour and 1's 20 miles an hour. The problem is that the road design works in the Netherlands because it is culturally acceptable. However, the ones that go passed and give a smug look as if to say “Made you wait!”…they proper do my head in. But what goes around, cones around and they will get knocked down a peg or six
    I will always say thank you to anyone that helps put on the roads

    At 06:12 you refer to the bike lane, of course that is down to that micro insignificant little runt Khan, you know the same one who has RUINED London for all. As for the speed limits, any road that does not display a speed limit but has lamp posts is 30 mph, all other roads with lamp posts will have a speed limit displayed. Speed humps were the brainchild of one or more of the leading Shock Absorber companies, who else other than an arsehole would want to ruin everyone's car. Love your vids, keep em coming.

    BTW…if you cross a solid white line at the edge of a cycle lane to let the Blues and Twos through…You might think you are doing the proper responsible thing, but don’t be surprised if later on you get a prosecution, based on the police cam or fixed post council cam, as you break the law. Only a uniformed official can authorise doing things like crossing solids or mounting kerbs, even to let emergency services through. They don’t make common sense exceptions.

    I was fined for going into a bus lane in Leeds. an ambulance was coming with flashing lights and siren, my first reaction was to get out of the way it was a stupid move, i appealed and was told i should keep going until the ambulance can get past. if someone died because i slowed them down i think i would rather pay a fine.

      Unfortunately that is the case with emergency vehicles, you are still not allowed to enter bus lanes or pass reds etc. to help them get to their destinations. So long as you only do these things when safe, surely it should be allowed to help save lives. Emergency vehicles get held up way too much in this country. In other countries like Germany, drivers in highway traffic jams are taught to split apart and open up a lane in the middle of the queues for emergency vehicles to use and people respect them. Videos I've seen show no one using these spaces to get ahead. What happened to the decency and patience this country used to be so fond of. Now everyone is out for themselves with no regard for anyone else. @richardeggert392, good on you for trying to help the emergency vehicle at a cost to yourself. I commend your selflessness and am sorry that the law does not recognise your sacrifice for the greater good.

      Personally I think LDC has the problem of bad manners by expecting a certain response from other drivers. I used to react like him and I would get all wound up and complain internally and get really stressed - as you can hear LDC is also stressed. I then decided to try not reacting or getting worried if people did not acknowledge my courtesy, and I found my driving was 100 % stress free and so much easier.

    The bike lane / emergency vehicle scenario is just as bad in Greenwich/Charlton/Woolwich. DO NOT attempt to pull over a solid white line in to either a bus lane or a cycle lane as you may get a ticket for it and a fine of £120. Sad-dick Khan't did all that while we were locked down. Its a system failure for emergency vehicles but just stop and let them find their own way.

    • @smilerbob
      @smilerbob 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it is clear in front but blocked where you are do not stop, carry on.
      If you stop you will hinder the emergency vehicle coming through. Only slow down, stop or move over if it is safe and legal. The drivers are trained to navigate through traffic and if drivers keep moving and create appropriate spaces that is best for everyone.
      The number of times I see drivers panic at the sight of blue lights and think they have to give way immediately is worrying. Last year I saw someone just sit there in a queue of traffic for 20 seconds while their lane was clear in front 🤷🏻‍♂️

    3:22 some drivers are terrible at roundabouts just stopping to giveaway to cyclists on their left, it’s not very helpful to cyclists at all, the best thing to do is just follow the highway code and keep the flow of traffic flowing smoothly so everything is predictable unlike randomly stopping like this causes an element of unpredictability

    Manners are an old fashioned concept Tony that many people have forgotten in favour of "I'm only considering myself and the rest of you peasants don't matter". Many people across the UK still teach their children manners so all is not lost and I like to think poor manners are the exception and not the norm. When leaving church on Sunday I held the gate open for the lady I was walking back with and she was quite shocked, a woman in her 30's, but the previous week I held the gate for a woman in her 60's and she thanked me and we walked home. This is the generational difference, you and I are of a similar age and were taught manners pre "woke", after the "woke" age all this went quickly downhill.

    On the bus stops and cycle lanes, I'm not going to say it's logical, but the reason is a misguided view that making driving difficult will force people not to drive. Personally (I live in Wales, where the war on motorists is comparable if not worse than London), the harder they try to make it, the more I will rise to the challenge. Since they introduced the blanket 20Mph, I find I'm less inclined to walk than I use to be, and I drive a car that, whilst it is ULEZ compliant, I have no idea how?!?

    why not just have the standard 30mph sign??

    8:46 as a cyclist I would like to see all bike lanes scrapped, just place lane markings on the main roads were cyclists should take and shared with motorists not pedestrians, drivers can simply overtake cyclists as if they were another car giving them plenty of space, if people’s attitudes on roads changed they would be no problem, perhaps no go zone for Audi drivers.
