    Great demonstration on how to change the air filter. The dealer wanted $130 to change this filter and the cabin filter. I said no and purchased both filters online for about $45 with shipping. It was the first time I changed the filter on my Sorento and thought I was doing something wrong when I couldn't easily pull the old filter out of the housing. Your video showed me that I wasn't doing anything wrong and that I just needed to really get a good hold on it (I used pliers) to yank it out of there. Thank you for posting. BTW - I have a 2015 Sorento EX V-6 AWD and this procedure is exactly the same as you demonstrate. And we love the car. We had a 2011 Sorento EX I-4 AWD and the V-6 is a vast improvement in power with little if any difference in fuel economy. Plus, Kia greatly improved the suspension for 2014 and newer years. The ride is much more comfortable than the 2011.

      +Edward Alvaro You are welcome. I am really enjoying mine too. I may go for the AWD next time as I like how my Santa Fe 4WD handles the V6 power. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Love this video. You really made me believe that I can do it. You so remind me of my Dad who passed few years back. He'd have known how to do it, but I can't ask him. So, glad that you showed us. You did it so caringly & devoted to people. Thank you.

    Very useful and insightful. I would have totally over complicated the task had I not seen this video so I really appreciate your help to all us DIY mechanics.

    Thanks, very helpful. I opened the hood and couldn't figure out where the filter even went! I didn't realize it was vertically placed.

    Dude. Thanks for recommending vacuuming out the air box. I don't know jack about cars so that helped.

    What is your opinion about the build quality of the Kia vs the older Toyota you worked on? Are things logically designed and durable?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rudy VQdriver I actually think it is a superior product. They come with a standard 100,000 mile warranty. In the Toyota I had to purchase that extra and it did not cover the water pump that went at 70,000 miles. Kia and Hyundai are the same company and after owning a Sonata 2.0 Turbo I was so impressed with the car and build quality that I had no reservations in getting the Sorento. Truly I am amazed at the quality of this vehicle and the amount of features that come with this model (SXL) is amazing. Do yourself a favor and take one out for a test drive I am sure you will impressed. Even used and with 36,000 miles on it still feels new to me. Thanks.

      As long as it's in the same model year range it should work but you can verify fit on Amazon prior to purchasing. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. Subscribe, Click The Bell and stay tuned! All the best.👍😀

    2:40 great idea my 2011 doesn't have it and its a pain to remove.
    what you call dirty im sure mechanics have seen 10 times worse.

    Easy job, some air filter are a pain to replace, Fram are a good make been going for years, average price here is about £10, how many miles had that filter done? didn`t look that bad, to be honest ive changed filter ten times worse than that, and ive found no difference,

      +bmwnasher I just bought the vehicle three days ago so I have no idea how many miles it had on it. The old filter has a build date 26/09/2014 so it could have been there for almost a year. I am sure it would have been fine to leave it longer but I like to start with a clean slate when I first buy a vehicle. A clogged air filter can cause an engine to run rich which has many undesired effects including decreased gas mileage and engine performance.
      A rich fuel mixture can also wash the piston cylinder walls of the needed oil required to lubricate the piston rings. This can cause unecessary wear to the piston rings, pistons and cylinder walls, premature spark plug fouling and can contaminate the engine oil as well. But for me it's more about engine performance as I will never let the filter get so dirty as to cause a rich fuel mixture. I think the gasoline savings alone are worth the price of the filter. Here is an article on this which claims that you can increase your fuel efficiency from a dirty air filter by as much as 14%. www.carsdirect.com/car-maintenance/how-to-tell-if-your-car-air-filter-needs-changing
      BTW the filter cost $13.00 US from Amazon. I couldn't find it Wal-Mart unfortunately and the auto parts stores would have been no cheaper so the prices if I understand the Pound Sterling conversion correctly are pretty similar. The inside cabin air filter is next video I will be doing. I have not received the engine oil filter yet (I will be using OEM for that). The KIA Sorento 3.3L 6 uses a cartridge oil filter which is a first for me on car engine. My motorcycles Suzuki and Honda all used cartridge oil filters. Thanks for watching.

      +Richard Lloyd Exacly for the price of a filter it`s false economy not to change it, my BMW does not give a mileage figure just to inspect it, this all reminds me to chec mine got a new spare here, Cheers

    • @bmwnasher
      @bmwnasher 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Lloyd You probably know this, on cartridge filters i take the washer off and smear oil on both sides, then with workshop tissue for grip do it up tight as i can by hand, then check it after a couple of trips, i had one come undone on new ford with only a couple of hundred miles on the speedometer. Personally i like the BMW type it`s much more secure.
      I used Fram filters for years on a 150.000ml diesel Land Rover & a Ford diesel 90.000ml, but you cant go wrong with OEM, GOOD LUCK.

      +bmwnasher Thanks for the tip. I am looking forward to getting my oil filters next week to do this service. I can't wait to dump whatever oil that is currently in the engine and replace it with synthetic that I can trust. Since this engine is non turbo and a 6 I will not have to change it as often but I will be changing every 5000 as opposed to the 7500 recommendation. LOL OCD about fluids. I go with OEM so there will be no warranty issue should a problem arise. I have found the OEM Hyundai/KIA filters to be very good in the past. They are certainly made well judging by the weight of them alone. There is a lot of "hate" for Fram filters on TH-cam but I like you have never had an issue with them. I am betting the Chinese are making knock off filters and calling them Fram as well, you never know. Good talking to you.

      Richard Lloyd OEM is best on new car, i use Castrol Edge 0w 30w recommended by BMW, but here Castrol do about 4 different Edge oils,eg one for VW, one for Ford one for GM one for BMW that one is classed longlife 15000ml oil change as recommended by BM much too much miles, on my BM the book says that the computer checks the driving style and alters the 15000ml service countdown as required, i do mine about 5000. i dont think you can go wrong with Castrol Mobil or Shell.
