      Obviously he's not so smart if he claims internet is good in the Phil. He says you can "fire up your phone anywhere." There's a huge difference between using your phone internet versus a PC and uploading videos. Internet in Phil is not good. As far as food, it's know the food is not so good in the Phil, esp. compared to Thailand.

      I would trust the articulate guy on the video over a random hater, lol. I vacationed in the Philippines and my small Airbnb out in the country had gigabit fiber. Food is obviously subjective so claiming one cuisine is better than the other is utterly ignorant and he clearly mentioned Western food which he said he can find in the Philippines so he obviously thinks Western food is better than Thai food. I personally dislike both Thai and Filipino food except for Filipino lumpia which I now make myself because it’s so good. And it is absolutely true that for an English-speaking person, it is so much better living in the Philippines where you can converse with anyone as opposed to Thailand, especially with the harsh Thai accent.

    • @user-wysud22

      @@Poo0fi Of course you trust the "articulate guy on the video"....given you are calling me a "random hater" for stating verifiable facts, it shows you have a low IQ. Everyone who has spent time in Phil knows the internet and food are two of the largest drawbacks. This is common knowledge. Perhaps you might get some realistic info if for once, you turned to expats forums for info instead of scamtube.

      @@user-wysud22 I agree... Thailand scores major victories in the following areas: Infrastructure is superior (internet), health care is superior in Thailand, food is superior in Thailand - by a long shot... (Philipines are addicted to junk food and many have a growing weight problem) Crime is much lower in Thailand...
      Areas where Thailand struggles is air quality at certain times of the year and if you are out of the tourist areas - spoken English is harder to come by.
      Where is it a wash? Costs and beauty... By western standards both countries are inexpensive and both are beautiful. But when you look at the balance sheet... Thailand comes out WAY on top...

    The most important thing for me to consider when travelling is the communication and the Philippines have it. English language gives me peace of mind and it comes naturally anytime with ease when talking to the local people (Filipino). I do not need a translator especially during emergency situation which helps a lot.

    The population of the Philippines was about the same with Thailand back in 1975 at around 41 or 42 million. But then it implemented a good family planning system which coupled with attracting huge amounts of foreign investments over the years that created millions of manufacturing jobs eventually cut their poverty level and improved their standard of living tremendously. The Philippines is going in the same direction as population growth rates have slowed down to 1.75% which is considered below the ideal replacement level of 2%. Although by regional standards this is still a bit high it's been a long time coming and definitely a welcome development. The IMF has also projected that our country will surpass Thailand's GDP in 5/6 years making it the 2nd biggest in economy in ASEAN after Indonesia. Although in per capita terms Thailand would still be ahead due to a smaller population.

    Thais are terrific people, although they have their own idiosyncrasies just as any nationality would. I lived in Thailand for just over a year, but finally had enough of the air pollution, just as David discussed. That was the number one issue. Living 150 km from Bangkok and the air was still almost as bad as Bangkok. Will be going to Manila very soon, and plan to stay 16 days (many trips there over the decades).
    Just got back from Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Love both places, but actually prefer Jakarta, but they also have pretty high AQI and PM 2.5 issues (Particulate Matter, or dust).
    I realize that air quality is very good in Phuket or Koh Samui, but for a few reasons I choose not to live there.

    Regarding this gentleman's assessment about the doctors in Thailand not giving the correct diagnosis, i disagree with him. Over the last few years this same issue has been discussed by many foreigners and Thais as well. It comes down to the "Sabai Sabai" , or not upsetting people attitude. What i saw and heard on TH-cam was that , let's say a person has serious complaints, is then examined by a doctor, tests are ordered etc. Cancer is discovered, prognosis, terminal within a year. the doctor(s) will never tell the patient they have cancer nor the relatives and will then discharge the patient, and maybe give them some pain pills to take home, nothing more. The general attitude is never upset the patient, they may not like the diagnosis. It is very wide spread in Thailand and no wonder this man's wife died of cancer so suddenly after arriving back in the U.S. even after getting tests done in Thailand. Being sued for malpractice doesn't even come into the picture. how could it? It's done here constantly, bad news, but unless the doctor screws up a surgery big time lawsuits rarely follow due the fact lawyers won't take the cases due to the high cost of litigation. so, that's what I've discovered about his topic over the last few years. sorry for this man's loss. Travel to Vietnam , they don't do that there from what i hear and the health care is getting up there with Western countries as well and it's inexpensive. so is dental care.

      I appreciate your informed perspective but respectfully disagree about the imaging. In my case with hospital 'Bum' they never provided the imaging study as requested after 2 requests. In another case Rama9 hospital, they sent me a ghost image. I saw the image in alongside the radiologist and we agreed, soft tissue only (not bone). When I went to the prescribing doctor, same image, same image, same conclusion. Then the admin handed me the ghost disk. I called requesting the proper DICOM file (knowing they altered the one I viewed 2x) i.e. Save As Ghost 555. When I called they said someone speaking english would call me back. When they did, I asked for a DICOM file and the reply was "I'll need to get someone technical to call you back." That never happened, but they did email me a JPEG file. Probably we both know that JPEG is not the preferred quality for radiologists, but it will suffice in a pinch.

    I miss 20th century Americans. We used to have such good manners and speak well. The biggest reason I won't go back to the US is because there's so many low-class people. I might try to stick it out there even though the economy is collapsing if the culture was still old school. 21st century USA is not the place I grew up in anymore, though. Why deal with the inflation and taxes if there are so many angry, depressed, and ignorant people around.

    Where he talks about "retirement visas" - be aware that the Philippines has a really good visa program for US and other military Veterans. Bottom line: where others must have a sizable amount of US dollars on deposit, for the qualified military Veteran only $1500 USD on deposit is required. Here's the details:
    "Special Resident Retiree's Visa - Expanded Courtesy"
    This non-immigrant visa is specifically for those with prior military service (aka "military Veterans"). The application process inexpensive and easy - $1,500 to apply for the visa from the Philippine Retirement Authority.
    There are several requirements to get this visa:
    - Security deposit of US $1,500;
    - Proof of $1,000 USD minimum monthly pension;
    - Must be 50 years old or over;
    - If a US military Vet, for example, your DD-214 must show an Honorable Discharge AND two years minimum service.
    This SRRV allows the qualified military Veteran to stay in the Philippines indefinitely, there's no visa renewal requirement, and you can travel out of the Philippines and return without limitation or restriction.

      A monthly pension of at least US$1,000.00 and an SRR Visa deposit of US$1,500.00 are required.

      More diverse food of your liking? I can tell you never lived in Bangkok. I lived in Bangkok for a year and one of the things it's known for...is its diverse food. You name it, it has it...and a lot of it. Philippines is not known for its food options. It doesn't have a big food scene. Of course there's food, but nothing on the level of Bangkok.

    I was recently in Thailand I hadn’t been there in over 30 years. The language barrier is somewhat of an obstacle. From my experience many of the people in Thailand were friendly but not genuinely friendly. In the 🇵🇭 there are genuine friendly faces wherever you go. That’s the deal breaker for me 🇵🇭 over Thailand any day! Thanks for sharing a very interesting story ✌🏾.

    Good video, like I say , to each his own. There is nothing wrong with preferring Thailand, there is nothing wrong with preferring the Phils. I got to both, but I will be giving the retirement visa of Thailand for my first retirement start home. As for what the guy said about the food, 'Oh you can get anything you want.' I am sorry I don't really find that to be the case in Phils, not even in Manila. So far I've never eaten a pizza in the Phils that I thought was worthy of a great review. Asians have the same problem as Latinos when it comes to flour and bread, they refuse to learn the secrets of baking where the dough is almost burnt or even a bit of char on it. Universally the same problem in Latin America with the exception of deep South America ala Argentina where they have a strong European tradition with bread / pizza baking.

    If you are an American, you should be grateful to thousands of your compatriots that made sacrifices that transformed the Philippines to be a major English speaking country.
    Harvard and Yale graduates volunteered to cross the Pacific starting 1898. When fellow Americans were slaughtering natives and burning entire towns, these volunteers were shaping natives' minds to American-civilization standards, and that included, among other things, good English grammar and style.
    They founded many institutions scattered around the country. Among them is Silliman University, 1901. SU still emphasizes excellent curriculum when it comes to English language.

    He is correct that the air quality index is complicated. Bangkok is a very big city with big city air problems the same as anywhere due to traffic and manufacturing. The crop burning is a regional problem including Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia. It is the worst in the north of Thailand around Chiang Mai. Bangkok has a few bad days but the AQI is mostly in the 50-100 range. I look at it every day to compare to where I live in the countryside. Today at my house the AQI is 62 and in Bangkok it is 56. It will always be better at Thailand’s beaches. I’m not surprised if Philippine island air is clean. My AQI app says the AQI is 75 in Manila.
