Very raw and real. It's not easy to admit your shortcomings and getting your sh*t together much less putting it online like this for the public to judge you Alvin. That courage is admirable. Please keep going. for one hater, there will be 10 more that will be grateful and relate to you. I'm in the same boat as you bro. I'm taking a long @$$ time to get my sh*t sorted out and I'm still sorting it out.
Appreciate you Kenny for being raw and forthcoming and I appreciate you everytime you comment on my videos. All comments are taken on board and I am grateful you guys care for little old me here. Thanks mate!
You are one of the rarest, honest, unfiltered, straight to the point and the truthful youtuber. I watched all your video and it has helped me a lot in starting over and worrying less, Best of luck Alvin hopefully can meet you one day, nothing is ever too complicated, life is always simple, just too many distractions and emotions blurring our path ahead. Cheers
Great video. 30 this year and I do agree with what you say. Work hard, save up, invest. Look at the brighter and positive side of things and if others can do it, so can I.
Thanks for sharing, Alvin! Everyone’s life and career journey is unique. It’s important not to feel discouraged for those haven’t saved $100K (or any certain amount) by age 30. Some people might experience slower savings growth in their 20s and 30s, but it’s entirely possible for their savings to accelerate later on. The key is to have your own plan and goals since you're young. Use others' achievements as motivation, not as a measure of your success. Learn from others, but focus on your own path without unnecessary stress. Embrace contentment and gratitude in your life. 🙏
Thanks for the video always bro, has given me some perspective on life as I've begun the journey for a mindset shift and trying to become more intentional day to day. Have to say alot of this video resonated with me truly and appreciate your wisdom always. Cheers and have a good weekend ahead
If it can be done why worry? If it cannot be done why worry as well? Its all about being contented in life, if you want it, work towards it but ofc nothing is guaranteed. Some people are born at the finish line while some far from the starting.
Thanks for the Run the dishwasher twice story, cos it made me take a chill pill and it's not worth the wasted energy to get overly frustrated over minor sh*t that happens to everyone. As for that study on youths experiencing severe or extremely severe symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress.... I can agree on the anxiety part, and definitely on the stress part, but symptoms of depression? That's just some bs. Its just the normal ups and downs of life. Being depressed is a WHOLE different kind of sh*t. I'd say the majority of those answering that they have symptoms of depression are just talking straight out their a**.
Thank you for the insight, and your sharing! I think social media really is awful for the younger generation, and it's really helpful to know that you're a work in progress, same as me! I was quite the spendthrift when I was younger too. Am 38 now, and am working to be wiser with my money! It's also very refreshing to hear your thoughts, and how it's okay to do your thing and be content and there's no need to keep up with the Joneses. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. #AskJapan
Good video, and I agree with your perspective. However, i would argue that the younger demographic that says they can't afford things, probably mean that they want to be able to afford housing and other big ticket costs without having to sacrifice or forego certain leisurely pursuits such as travel, cafe hopping and other lifestyle activities...bear in mind, that it validates their "value" and place in society. I have lived overseas for 12 years, and i do see a lot more people having a good balance of being able to buy freehold property, send their kids to slightly better schools, and also have enough to indulge in hobbies or leisurely pursuits to recalibrate themselves... And I feel, our youth do deserve to not have to struggle to afford housing that will eventually be returned to the state after the lease expires, and also be justified that the daily grind and high competitive environment is worth going through if they get to enjoy a few material comforts every now and then.
Fair points all around! The youths will find their way I reckon. Just needs to set realistic expectations and that can change overtime as things change the landscape over time too. Appreciate you for the candid comment!
The grant makes hdb bto affordable but what if you are buying resale? No grant and if you are not earning 1500 or higher for your cpf , basically 4200$ gross...how can you afford it assuming you decide to put in a bank in less than 10 years if you want to marry before 35 as a male and 30 as a female ,you need to save 70+% of your salary per month...its possible la if you are kiamsiap like me lor...if your diploma income cap isnt very high and you are the type that cant study well, compared to you a degree holder hard to say ma, do the math and we will know
Well, Asian Boss was interviewing those who are at SMU so… which are all at a university level. you have a point I get it. Tough luck for those who aren’t locals then. Those who are locals shouldn’t really complain as stats shows otherwise. Thanks for your insights!
@@Longtermalwayswins many have done so but definitely not me. Can’t stand how people can take the long hours to and fro just to buy groceries and food up north. Everything is relative. Singaporeans are already very fortunate to be born into war free famine free natural disaster free place. Once you start to comparing you will be miserable
Hard not to compare quite frankly. We are so closed to each other it’s just human to look, stare and of course compare. What I have done over the years is just don’t look! It’s not easy but it’s been wonderful and I really am not as bothered as I used to when I gave a 2nd look and all thoughts pop into my head. Again thank you for commenting!

Hi Alvin, Would your life be any different if you had grown up in an HDB like your wife? I have heard similar stories about children who grow up in private housing tending to be less hungry for success. I hope to hear your views. Thanks.
Possibly. Many of my peers have done well for themselves and changed their lives BECAUSE they stayed in a hdb. And those who don’t, typically don’t do eel I guess. Financial literacy is key though. This one no education from school will teach you and you need to find it out yourself. As mention in the video; I was sheltered only I knew of finance late. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do anything because I am late. It’s not too late. Thanks for asking!
I don't think there is a strong correlation. It really depends on a person's character and upbringing. A person's parents may provide a sheltered life even if the family lives in a HDB. Parents have to let their kids take managed risks.
Reckon is to have options and/or expansion options open? 1. single now but may get married in the future. 4rm hdb can accommodate a couple and a kid or two without moving n finding anothet flat 2. 1 room for work or hobby purposes 3. Some passive income by renting out a room Hosting friends and families of ard 12 to 14 guests is still okay for a 4rm hdb.. Definitely tough for a 3rm hdb and below.
