Been painting tins and exhaust on my project. Looking pretty good for a old engine. As always you are giving folks great information for their projects. I don't have a beetle right now but when I get one will look up these videos as a refresher

That brand of rubber boots is good. I got a master cylinder from them and they say they are of European manufacture if that’s any assurance.
I like the approach you are taking of reusing parts as much as possible. Not only does it make sense economically but overall considering the shady quality of Chinesium replacement parts nowadays. Finally; you can also put in a couple of Zerk fittings on each of the shock towers of the beam. Being that they are hollow you can pump them full of grease to prevent the corrosion that killed the original one.

@@vayabroder729 yeah I thought about greasing the inside shock tower but realistically it doesn’t snow down here and there isn’t any salt.
This wreck spent time up north a while before it came down here.
Cars bought here and stayed here are relatively dry.
And… yes. Many of the original parts can be rehabilitated. The steel is superior to Chinese. As well as the build quality. 😄

I have used a scissor jack between the torsion arms to install/remove the spindles. Works great.

You know what really works great is a modified VW jack.

For me, the Toyota scissor jack work out. No need to be modified.

Yes, you're right. I have seen photos in the service manual. Maybe your brother can build one.

That shifter boot is from a type 3 car.

To put those tie rod end rings on you need a cone shaped tool that allows them to expand then snap in place on the boots. You can make one by cutting down a small hard plastic funnel. You should also purge them with grease to get the detritus out of them prior to installing the boots. Please tell me your not going to try and rebuild that master cylinder....unless you do it in an antiseptic enviorment you probably will not be sucsessful and you don't want to risk your life or other road users with iffy brakes. Brakes are not something to cut corners on. Lining those marks up on your eccentric gets it close. 30:10 As long as you don't loosen or remove the center grub screw they won't get pushed out. Ugh...those are dune buggy shocks and they make for an extremely rough ride, you do not want to use gas filled shocks, old VW's were not designed for them. They weren't designed for steel belted radials either but bias ply tires. They ride better. 1:10:38 That's a shift lever boot out of a Type 3. 1:11:54 You do not have enough sag in the clutch cable (add washers) and you need a boot on the end to keep water out. I thought I sent you one. 1:12:42 Yup, gotta have those spacers. You can make your own. 1:14:55 The stop is used to adjust brake pedal height, not the actuator rod. If you get the brake pedal height right by adjusting the actuator rod and not the plate you won't have enough pedal travel if you lose one circuit of your brakes to operate the brakes. I think your throttle pedal spring is either missing or broken. Now's the time to fix that. I think that's the end of me being the monkey in your wrench.

@@OkFixer It can be frustrating at times watching you cut corners. That red paint really bugged me, just get a can of semi-gloss black rustoleum and a brush. Or a can of POR-15 in black but that's expensive. Dad's blue "cherry" nickle and dimed me for almost 3 years before I straightened it out. That was one boooogered up car.
