I spent a whole Sunday with Tom O' Connor in the early 1980's when my then father-in-law was a contestant on Name That Tune. There were no airs and graces at all with him. He was a genuinely nice man and very good company. Such a shame he is no longer with us.
I used to be the warm up man for Countdown (1990 - 2003). Tom was a regular guest - And whenever he was on the show, that was it - I had the day off! He LIVED for performing. Just loved it. And the audiences loved him.
Amazing to see this class act for the first time! Never get medication with Press Down and Turn tops. The last cough medicine I got I threw away in the end. Dynamite wouldn’t have got the top off!
I was enjoying this until the Vietnamese joke, which made me do the old forehead slap, and when I watched again the fella in the crowd was doing the same thing. After which I realised that this is pure gold.
if at 16:00, what you mean, the Vietnamese, joke sound like a responsible parent to me, it set in 70-80's, is in Ireland, I would think there's not a lot of Vietnamese's speaker is there, so speaking there (native tong), sounds like a very responsible thing to me, and a lot of effort on there past too, for not much in return, (yes I do get it = it it joke at the expense of the Irish, but isn't that just a different native culture too, but to day...)

I remember listening to Tom when I was a kid, my mum had one of his records, my favourite was Christopher Columbus. I’ll never forget him.
My dad had a record as well and we use to put it on every now again. Rainbow in the Lobby about hanging washing out....

Tom was a great comic sadly no longer with us. I liverpudians have a great sense of humour.
He came out....
Why was he so popular in Ireland?
I think all the Comedians were all popular in Ireland as RTE played out the Comedians to show.
Loved watching ne that tune when yoing lad
