- We went way down underground to Jack Solomon's Bar in Soho to watch the freshly revealed cast of Hadestown and writer Anaïs Mitchell discuss the show and perform some special nubmers from the piece.
The critically acclaimed show comes back to the UK after five years, with tickets on sale now. Playing at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London from 10 February 2024, it features music, lyrics, and book by Mitchell, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, and direction by Tony Award-winner Rachel Chavkin.
The show is a genre-defying new musical that tells two mythic love stories - that of Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone - with both on a journey to the underworld and back.
Playing Orpheus is Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time), while Eurydice is to be portrayed by Grace Hodgett-Young, currently appearing as Betty in Sunset Boulevard. Taking on the role of Hermes will be Melanie La Barrie (& Juliet), with Persephone played by Gloria Onitiri (Cinderella) and Hades played by Zachary James (Philip Glass’s Akhnaten). Playing the three Fates will be Madeline Charlemagne, Allie Daniel and Bella Brown.Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Beth Hinton-Lever, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short will play the Workers, with Lucinda Buckley, Ryesha Higgs, Miriam Nyarko, and Simon Oskarsson as Swings. - บันเทิง
Just got back from the London trip to see this and my GOD they were stunning in the roles! Dónal Finn brought such an easy charm to Orpheus and at the same time managed to be absolutely DEVASTATED and disillusioned in the second act. And Grace Hodgett-Young was so down to earth and gritty compared to his dreaminess, they complemented each other so well! It was such a stellar show, I really really hope we get a West End Cast album because I don't think I can go back to the Brodaway recording without missing something.
Obsessed with the way he looks at her
I know 🥹
Is it way too early to say I already want a West End Cast Recording?
Perhaps, but justifieably so
No. No, it's not! I said that from THIS performance...which when they announced the cast and had only performed this on one day!😂😍
it didn’t even occur to me that you would be able to hear their accents! I love them 🥹
I'm obsessed with Grace's braids. And their accents and the way they look at each other and their voices...... This cast is incredible.
I love her braids too! I want to style my daughter's hair the same way.
I wish we could get a west end cast recording- it's so distinct
@@zyphonwhite9853 Yes! I’d love that
Is Dónal Finn Irish? If so, his accent works sooo well with the folksy style of music!
Yes, he is from Cork Ireland!! It is a good day for us Irish!!
He sure is he's amazing isn't he ❤️❤️😍
their chemistry >>>>>>>>>>
It really looks like they have a thing for each other
they are perfect
Actual chills!!! SO so good
their accents 🥺
If they recorded this can we get a full album of this cast? They were incredible when we saw them in august 24
Thanks for these taster videos, looking forward to seeing it (got my ticket for April!)
Love this song! I’m obsessed with this show lately. ❤ He’s the best Orpheus I’ve heard so far.
Did you ever hear Reeve Carney?? Original Orpheus on Broadway
@@ZachSchmidt-yl9xm I’ve heard him on album and seen vids on YT but sadly didn’t get to see him live. He’s amazing! I’ve only seen the current touring cast live and was VERY happy with the talents of the cast. I thought this cast was incredible:
Amaya Braganza as Eurydice, Lana Gordon as Persephone, Will Mann as Hermes, Matthew Patrick Quinn as Hades and J. Antonio Rodriguez as Orpheus.
Wow Matt Cauthon
literally perfect
Her voice is STUNNING
They sound amazing ❤
I can't get enough of this song❤
Lover, tell me if you can
Who's gonna buy the wedding bands?
Times being what they are
Hard and getting harder all the time
Lover, when I sing my song
All the rivers will sing along
And they're gonna break their banks for us
And with their gold be generous
All a-flashing in the pan, all to fashion for your hand
The rivers gonna give us the wedding bands
Lover, tell me, if you're able
Who's gonna lay the wedding table?
Times being what they are
Dark and getting darker all the time
Lover, when I sing my song
All the trees gonna sing along
And they're gonna bend their branches down
To lay their fruit upon the ground
The almond and the apple
And the sugar from the maple
The trees gonna lay the wedding table
So when you sing your song
The one your working on
Spring will come again?
Yes
Why dont you sing it then?
It isn't finished
Sing it
You wanna take me home?
Yes
Sing the song
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
How'd you do that?
I don't know
The songs not finished though
Even so it can do this?
I know
You have to finish it
Lover, tell me, when we're wed
Who's gonna make the wedding bed?
Times being what they are
Hard and getting harder all the time
Lover, when I sing my song
All the birds gonna sing along
And they'll come flying from all around
To lay their feathers on the ground
And we'll lie down in eiderdown,
A pillow 'neath our heads
The birds gonna make the wedding bed
And the trees gonna lay the wedding table
And the rivers gonna give us the wedding bands
MAT CAUTHON???
Now I need a scene of his tour with Thom. It Would have been perfect in season 2 but I will just pretend it actually happened
@@arosa_mg oh that would’ve been awesome
omg it IS him !!!
I could only stand season 1 generously fast forwarded.
Grace has a wonderful voice, but i think she come up way too strong during her parts. It doesnt work well with the music and theme of the song in whole.
Donal executed everythig perfectly to the dot.
Give her a chance, they've not even started actual performances yet.
I thought that when I first heard this but have since watched them live and the issue wasn't there, they were perfect
