      Yeah, it would seem that the vast majority of job posts are for ghost jobs. It's easy for companies to post stuff in the hopes of getting a talent pool together in the event they do need to fill a position. So this might mean things are more dismal right now than this video wants to lead us to believe. Still I recently found a job regardless, but it wasn't easy.

    Job postings is not the same as available jobs. Along with layoff companies are also doing hiring freezes, etc. One of the main things all this is being done for is cost cutting, which mostly means less current employees and no new ones. Job listings also don't just disappear even when companies know they aren't going to hire anyone.

    When you think about how little we manufacture in the U.S. Most jobs are either skilled labor or tech. A.I. will take awhile to be able to replace skilled labor outside a factory setting. But A.I. will very quickly replace tech jobs. Even call centers in other countries will be replaced by A.I. A.I. is learning 24/7 all over the world and has been doing this for years. The self driving Robo taxi that Tesla has promised will even replace: Uber, Lift and regular Taxi driver jobs.

The "Unemployment" statistic for example, is only based on people who claim unemployment in order to receive government assistance till they can get back on their feet. Hey Mad Hat! I just got my Sec+. I am undecided in where i should go in cyber still, im almost done with my bachelors in cyber, but im undecided between CySA+ and CCNA (since i could use the networking knowledge anywhere in tech). What is a logical next step?
    Eventually I will move onto advanced certs such as CASP+ and BTL1 or eJPT, but i need the best possible edge for just getting my foot in the door for experience.

    • @madhatistaken
      @madhatistaken  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Depends on what you've learned in your bachelors I suppose. CySA+ isn't all that well known, so it's potentially skippable if you've learned the material already. CCNA is much more known, but also potentially material you've already covered in your program in which case the sooner you can take the test the more fresh that information will be in your mind. I had Cisco networking classes that at the time I really knew Cisco configuration commands that I've all but forgotten now. Also, depending on if you're going for a general security analyst role or a networking analyst role, the CCNA will have more or less weight. They're two certs that focus on different things so it's hard to say which one is more viable.
      I suppose CySA+ is better if you're going to apply to general security analyst roles.
      CCNA is better for networking based roles that utilize Cisco (they'd be the job listings asking for Cisco certs).
      Obviously it's better to obtain both so your resume is well rounded but...😅 just my two cents!

      @@SunMoonNights yeah I've been researching the subject more and it's definitely going to replace like 80% of the jobs that we have now not just Tech and art. There's a really good TH-cam or that talks about this a lot. David Shapiro.
      If you think about it, coding and programming is really time consuming and complicated. It really shouldn't be done by people. Ai can do a better job. But I kind of sucks that we're probably going to live in a world in the future like metal Gear solid or the Disney movie. Wally where AI just does everything for us and we just exist without any purpose. I mean it's good that we won't have to work in the future, but it kind of sucks if you always wanted to have a job to feel fulfilled . I got hobbies of course but I still want to be able to have a job as well I like.
      But I think that's the end game for AI where nobody has to work and everybody can just do whatever they want. They will probably introduce UBI universal income. They've been talking about it for a while. They'll have to do something if 80% of the population doesn't have to work anymore. Companies have been like saying that they want to cut the work day to 4 hours a day and then cutting it down to three days a week as they need less and less people we might have to just work like one day a week. And eventually that will be phased out to nothing once they don't need people anymore.

      @@SunMoonNights yeah, eventually physically labor jobs will be replaced once robotics gets good enough. And it would probably be considered unsafe for people to work when machines can do it for much cheaper and more safely. They'll take a while though. Robotics still kind of sucks right now. I hope you're right. I hope they figure out something for people to do because like I have like anxiety disorders. I just get really anxious when I have to like do nothing.

      It's less about if Cybersecurity is safe and more about if the INDSUTRY you're working in is safe. Cybersecurity as a career is statistically growing and there's a constant need for mid-level/senior level roles in this space. What's important is picking the industries with less volatile layoffs (like we're seeing with all these private tech companies). If people want more stability, I recommend focusing on stable industries. These are usually stable because they are funded by the government, firing process is a lot, and not many people choose these industries because it's not going to be as big of a money bag as working for Facebook for example but it will still be high earning. Think of industries like healthcare (hospitals for example), education (school districts, colleges, etc.), government (local, state, and federal), military (defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc.) are all industries that don't suffer massive layoffs like Big Tech companies. I'm not saying don't go for those fortune 500 companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Netflix, etc. but people should also know there are other industries that need tech employees that aren't tech-focused industries.

      @@SpyJamz The healthcare industry is not necessarily layoff proof if you work for a software or service company in that industry, as companies now outsource their engineer work. "Tech" jobs are going to continue to grow. Salaries are going to have movement as well and for many people, that movement will go down. As far as how twitter runs today, it's a bit of a s-word show. Does it function, yes but in reality once you have software that works, you don't need as many developers to fix the bugs, especially if you don't care about adding features. You don't need moderators if you don't care about people seeing porn responses when they read a tweet about the weather. You also don't need expensive sales reps, sales support reps...if you don't want to monetize that way. Many companies could probably cut a lot of tech and tech adjacent staff but their product and perhaps bottom line would suffer.

    Right, the fed interest rate. WHY? Investors rather keep their money in the account for 5% a year instead of investing it at risk into a startup to achieve the same or even loose all.
    I know VC investors and angel investors personally and that's why I know it.

A large percentage of our department could not bother to show up or sit there and do nothing ( and some of them do, yes you know who you are) and nothing would change. • @madhatistaken
      @madhatistaken  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

      Help desk roles will vary alot in pay for sure. Generally they're around 19/hr but often they can be remote which is a huge perk. My first "help desk" job I took my senior year of college was for 15/hr fully onsite (40 minute commute). I quit after 6 months to finish college. My second "help desk" job was for 23/hr and was fully remote. Not a whole lot higher than 19 but the work was literally resetting passwords from the comfort of my home office. There's typically multiple tiers of techs as well, so there's room for promos and pay bumps as well. Blue collar jobs can start at a decent pay but USUALLY have a lower pay cap and job security isn't as good. Just my two cents though.
