It’s hard to know for sure the sound quality from TH-cam (sound compression etc) but you seem to be enjoying it and I really appreciate your honesty re. The volume limits etc .. thank you for making this video 🙏
That is a really tricked out little amp. You did a great job of showing the features and practical uses without trying to oversell it. Honest review that people will appreciate. BTW, I enjoyed the rawness of the audio. Gives a feeling of what it's like being there in person. Maybe mix it in a little bit here and there.
Thanks so much for this review, already have one on order but it’s nice to hear the pros and cons. As I’m mainly a guitarist, sounds like will be great for me. You sound very good!
Hello Ben , well Mother Nature sure gave you a rinsing on this one eh !! What a nice little amp that is ! I must say that small and light to carry is a big plus for me as i dont hve a " diablo " to roll about with ! I,ll be checking the internet on this one to see the power out put on it ! When you switched on the delay it did sound very nice say ! Also loved that possibility of creating a backing track for your song, that is pretty Rad I must say ! the possibilities do seem endless ! Great video as ever Ben ! Gald you got your feet out of the elements Bro !!
Thank you Brian! The possibilities are certainly endless - it's a very cool piece of kit and if weight and size are a selling point then this is a perfect amp choice! 😃 Appreciate the supper as always! 🙌
Showbox looks/sounds more substantial. I really like the tethered control surface on the SB. Running the mixed output to a JBL eon powered 15 or two or three you can put out enough sound for 200+ people. ❤ Showbox. Great video ARP!!!
Cant`t wait to receive your album in the mail! :) I`m moving to Asia for the winter so anytime soon within the next couple of weeks would be great so I can get it before I move but no worries. I will enjoy the download too. Keep up the good work :) By the way, what about doing a busking tour in Asia?
So rad!! As soon as the CD's are here I'll get them out to all the Pre-Orders and I'll also do the Digital Downloads at the same time 😃 🙌 If your address is different just email me to let me know (info@augustradioproject.com) - A busking tour of Asia would RAD! I'm definitely up for doing something like that!
Interesting to see more options for amplification. I do like the idea of a much lighter piece of kit. I am regularly arguing with myself as to whether I should abandon my acoustic principles in favour of an option that is less stressful on the voice. I already play a “smart guitar” so how useful would a “smart amp” be … ? Decisions, man, decisions!
I hear you dude! I do like that you stick to the acoustic principles. There's something honourable about it! Amplification can also be a lot of fun though! The decisions of a street musician eh! 😃 🙌
I feel like this could be the perfect busking amp. IF you need more sound (volume and projection) you can always plug into a house PA or a separate dual speaker PA setup and use the Spark as your monitor and effects to the PA. As a singer songwriter I would like to know more about the vocal effects and sound quality of the vocal channel. It sounded a bit muddy in the video but perhaps it could be cleaned up in the settings on the app. Do you have any thoughts on the vocals? I assume there is an EQ for each channel? Very much appreciate your review and look forward to the album release! Thank you!
One of the coolest things about this amp is how customisable the sound is. I would say the muddiness is probably more to do with the mix within the video - IRL it's a lot clearer! The App allows you to add EQ, compression, FX... (the lot) to each channel preset so I guess over time you'd be able to really dial it in and refine the sound! 😃 🙌
Mackie Showbox loud enough for gigs? Can you link it to a house PA? I have a similar amp, but it’s only 200 watts.. which I think is loud enough? I find these big huge PA systems are kind of overkill… people can’t hear themselves! The busking amps seem suffice. Lol what do you think? Would be a cool video idea - follow along to a gig!
Definitely loud enough for gigs! I use it all the time for pubs and I've even played some pretty sizeable marquees with it! You can line it out to a house PA and even use it as a monitor. It's a rad piece of kit and very manageable to get around vs. a full blown PA! Highly recommended! 🙌 😀
Hi Bob up in Wolves, I am glad you did a review of this, I might be tempted as i love my Spark mini. but my problem is the price, its only £80 less than the bigger Spark live which is highly rated as the best busking amp by many. so I am not sure what to do.
Spark Live is double in weight. Get the Edge if you want a lighter, and smaller size amp. Otherwise I don't see any big benefits of the Edge. Looper is useless without a footswitch for busking. I opted for the Edge cuz I don't have a car.
Hey Bob! I don't have any experience with the Spark Live but it seems to be similar to the Edge, just the size and power that's different. The Edge is a great piece of kit so I can highly recommend it, especially if you're into PG! 😀 That said, if you're looking for more power and need the extra volume for the events/gigs you play then the Live might work in your favour 🙌 Both come with a range of features that are very similar and I don't doubt that PG have made sure the sound is great for the Live - it certainly is for the Edge. I hope that helps a little!
I want this amp to work because I play electric guitar with BT and vocals. But after reading so many negative comments about positive grid I am hesitant and will likely get either a EV8 or Showbox
I can definitely vouch for the ShowBox being incredible and I've heard great things about EV8 too! They're both a little more pricey than the Spark Edge so if you have the budget then I say go for it. My experience with the Spark Edge is great though, I don't see any reason to be negative about it. It's definitely small and not as powerful as perhaps you'd prefer this type of amp to be but in terms of it's features it's great! 😀🙌
I'm enjoying your wide-eyed take on PG amps. I'm considering this amp, but I'm afraid that it won't have enough bottom end for my backing tracks. How do you compare this to the Mackie Showbox?
Thank you! The Spark Edge is a great product. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you're into PG! I do the comparison with the ShowBox from 16:52 in the video 😃 🙌 Let me know if you have any specific question that I don't cover!
How do the vocals sound on the Edge? It’s hard to tell from videos. It doesn’t sound as good as the Showbox does, but it’s hard to compete against a legit PA.
The vocal sound took me by surprise. IRL it's actually really good. Compared with the ShowBox, the Edge definitely holds up until the volume needs cranking. Then the ShowBox completely shines! I'd still say the Edge seems more tailored towards guitar though. If you're looking for more of a PA, then I'd go with something that leans more that way! 😀🙌
Hi ARP, I just wondered what other promotion you are doing for the album other than via this channel? Personally, I am happy to wait until you get 100 orders before receiving my copy. How about making a mock-up with the art work in a CD case to display whilst you're busking, and when people try to buy it you can get them on the pre-order list? You could also do a separate QR code for the download that you can display on your guitar case that takes them to the pre-order page on your website. Although orders may be slowing at the moment, I'm sure you'll get to 100 sooner than you think.
Hey Phil, you make a very good point! I'm promoting it over on Instagram but that obviously has a tendency to get very lost as most things do on that app. I also have it as the top link on the page that the QR code on my sign links to... 😃 Here's the thing - I want to get the album out to those who have pre-ordered so far before the end of the year. That just feels right to me! 🙌 But by still keeping 100 as the goal before the album comes out online can still provide a cool challenge. I think using your idea of promoting it more whilst out busking is a great shout to get to the 100 goal, also maybe doing a live-stream of playing the album live here on YT might be something I'm considering 👀 but I'm gonna go ahead and send out all the pre-orders once the CD's are ready. Then together we can push for that 100 goal that will mean an online release!
I watched this because I've been trying to work out if the Spark Edge or the Spark Live would suit my needs and which would be better but wasn't even aware of the Mackie range so I guess that's something else I can consider. The issue I have with the Spark range is every product seems to have some kind of limitation that is a bit of a deal breaker but I've been curious about the comments regarding the ability to join two Spark Edges and I'm waiting to see a video showing how this is implemented because unfortunately the Spark Live has an issue with the inputs 3/4 not actually being stereo despite being advertised as stereo and it also doesn't have the looper that the Edge does. I like the direction this technology is heading, hopefully we will see more competition in this space soon.
Super interesting! I've heard a few people say good things about the Spark Live, I'm yet to see one out in the wild though! The Edge is definitely a great piece of kit! I have yet to try using the stereo outputs so I can't confirm they work in the desired way. You're right though, the technology is definitely super exciting! 😃 🙌
Do you do any vocal warmups or practice before busking or anything like that? Also do you ever listen to yourself back and get annoyed at your performance? I’m very critical of myself and often find myself pitchy and have been wondering how to improve, maybe singing scales or something.
Jacobs Vocal Academy on TH-cam. The videos with the purple thumbnails. They have 'vocal warmups' in increments from 5 to 45 minutes. If you sing along to those, a couple of times a week, you will really notice the improvement.
I don't tend to do any formal warm ups before Busking, simply because I know I'm going to play for 4 hours. I tend to use the first 4-5 songs (15/20 minutes) as the "warm up", starting the set with the songs in the lower register and making sure not to belt too much. If I have more than one day off in a row, I tend to do the Jacobs Academy 25 or 30 minute warm up videos (just like Dave has suggested). I also do these before gigs 😃 🙌 When it comes to watching myself back, I try not to attach myself to the performance and instead think about the video as a whole! We're always going to be our own biggest critics, it's good to remember that whilst we will always find the little flaws, everyone else usually sees the bigger picture!
I can't speak for the Everse as I've never used one but I do know several folks who speak very highly of it! From what I hear they're very similar in terms of sound! The ShowBox has more channels (6 channels) so if you're planning on using more than 2 inputs this could be a deciding factor. It also has a few more features like the SD Card Slot recording as well as the controls being slightly easier and more spread out. I do see that the Everse is supposedly water resistant and can be used in (light) rain! Similar price point so I'd say it's all about considering how you intend to use it! 😃 🙌 hope that helps!
@@AugustRadioProject seriously tho can i ask can you plug your phone in and live stream from the unit ....and does it process the sound live as good as when you record it via the sd card?
The barefoot shoes I'm wearing in this video (and probably all my videos) are particularly bad for getting wet 😂 They're most canvas material with a very thin sole. Great for being barefoot, not great in the rain! I run in Altras which aren't pure barefoot as they have padding but they are foot shaped and zero drop from heel to toe! I did run in barefoot shoes for a while but found the impact too intense as soon as the distance ramped up. 😃 🙌
The sound over the video doesn't do it the best justice, it's actually a really nice sound! A lot more depth than you'd expect for it's size! I tried to line out the sound to my handheld recorder for more clarity but that doesn't work anywhere near as well as the ShowBox's SD card slot. SB is hard to beat 😃 🙌
I've just unboxed mine and have yet to fire it up. I'm familiar with the spark and spark 2 having both. I thought that we would have the ability to select and adjust vocals, with presets, like we do with the guitars. No offence, but your vocals sound awful, don't get me wrong, you can sing but the tone is... not good. Tell me I've not just wasted £360!
You can adjust the vocal preset in the same way as the guitars, just via the app! The sound on this video isn't the best as my handheld recorder kept distorting - no fault of the Spark's, just I had the gain on the Zoom a bit too high! 😀🙌
@@AugustRadioProject Thanks for replying. Adjusting things as you suggest was my understanding but to clarify, I thought that we'd be getting presets *for* vocals. All presets are currently for guitar set ups. Anyway, it's moot. The damn thing will not connect. Not happy with this purchase at all.
