    13:49 This is why I'm having trouble watching let's plays, especially with games I know about. I'm thinking to myself that, ‘I want to play this game in the future, and if I watch this video now, I am going to spoil that experience.’ So I end up not watching the video. Or any other let's play video that looks interesting. But I realise that some let's plays in particular really add to the experience and are worth experiencing on their own, even if that means the first time you end up playing the game yourself, that experience might be diminished as a result.
    Such a conundrum.
    Anyway, thank you for such a comprehensive list in the description!

    I like Minecraft 実況プレイ's for immersion (mostly Marun, girl who does a pretty relaxing style of letsplay), learning stuff like ore names and cave stuff takes me back to my childhood when I'd learn English through Runescape learning all these obscure ore and fish names haha

    I made the mistake of letting my reading get wayyy ahead of my listening to the point where I can consume media with Japanese subtitles and understand like 90% of it, with 6k flashcards made throughout the years, but my listening ability is so bad, I can understand a podcast like Japanese with Noriko but nothing higher level than that.
    I think I'm going to make this year my year of listening, just watching all these channels you've recommended and ditching subtitles for the year and only focus on listening, it feels so bad knowing I know 6k words in their written form but probably can only pick up maybe 500 by ear? I'm hoping just by listening I can close the gap.

    • @Livakivi
      @Livakivi  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I recommend checking this part of my video on immersion and why I think you SHOULD NOT turn off Japanese subtitles: th-cam.com/video/edIAsm_xrJ8/w-d-xo.html
      Your listening will improve faster with Japanese subtitles compared to no JP subs. But keep it mind that at 6000 words, even if you focused on listening for a long time, you'll still be missing tons of vocab and vocal expressions that are being used, so it most likely has less to do with your listening ability than you think, but a combination of multiple things at once.

    • @David-k1z
      @David-k1z 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      How did your year go on mate did you stick to listening? Funnily enough im in exact same position, with around 8000 words i can play a long game like Trails in the sky or watch a fairly difficult anime like Berserk with the help of a dictionary but my listening is kinda dogwater.
      Pretty certain im going to do the same thing in 2025, however the difficulty right now is im stuck between finding the balance of enjoyment and "comprehensible input", want to be doing lets plays and youtube etc but its generally too difficult right now so im stuck with basic podcasts or folktales, that's why im curious how it went for you as i figure its only a matter of putting in time.

    Hi Livakivi, first I just want to say that I love your content, got addicted to anki because of you introducing it, and I go back here almost everyday(inspiring)... About how many vocab words would you say can a person be able to enjoy ghibli or slice of life anime without struggling to look for unknown vocabs? Thanks

    • @Livakivi
      @Livakivi  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It kind of depends because even if you know let's say 10,000 words, two different people can have very differing vocabularies despite knowing the same amount of words depending on from where they mined said vocabulary.
      If you start sentence mining with said content from early on, e.g. after taking 1000-3000~ premade cards, your vocabulary will be more optimized towards such content, in which case, perhaps with 10,000 words (or 1 year of mining 20 cards a day to go from 3k words to 10k) will probably make your comprehension between something like 95 to 99% depending on the anime and episode. It probably won't be a struggle, but you'll still find a few new words per episode most likely.
      At ~20,000, I can watch a wide range of content without needing to do a lot of lookups, for anime/youtube/irl etc its definitely not a struggle for sure, but Mishima type books are still a struggle relatively speaking, as I explained in the 5 year video.

    I've been watching japanese streamers as soon as I learned some kanji on wanikani and all grammar on japanese101. Just wanted to share my favorites - takagitv 高木少年兵 and Hanabusa Lisa. Takagi is actually playing with YY on GTA rp server.

    If you're into watching playthroughs I highly recommend ふぅ's Elden Ring series, it's probably the best FromSoft game playthrough I've ever seen.

    Hey Liva, great video and I will definitely watch these youtubers! I also noticed you used the soundtrack "Hero appears" by Kensuke Ushio. Does this mean you have watched Ping Pong the Animation? It's my favourite anime of all time, so what do you think of it? (if you have watched it)
